Be where you are. The Idea of Stability in John Cassian
Smolen, Štěpán ; Bartoň, Josef (advisor) ; Ventura, Václav (referee)
BE WHERE YOU ARE: THE IDEA OF MONASTIC STABILITY IN JOHN CASSIAN The thesis examines the role of stability in the texts of patristic author John Cassian, who is concerned with the spirituality of the early Egyptian monasticism. The theme is briefly presented in relation to author's life and writings. A detailed lexicological analysis shows which words and with which meaning Cassian uses to express the idea of stability. The third chapter forms the core of the study - it describes five main aspects of the studied idea: i. e. the stability of vocation (stabilitas professionis), the stability of place (stabilitas loci), the stability of heart (stabilitas cordis), the stability in the good (stabilitas boni) and God's stability (stabilitas Dei). These aspects are delineated as successive degrees of a spiritual journey that leads from external to internal forms of stability and further to the stability of love of God and neighbour. The whole Cassian's conception is then situated within the wider context of systematic theology. The introduction and the conclusion of the thesis put the examined topic in the frame of the contemporary "crisis of rootedness" and outline the possible therapeutic dimension of author's thought for those who are afflicted with instability. Keywords John Cassian; Egyptian...

Gažíková Fečová, Rostislava ; Pavlík, Jiří (advisor) ; Ventura, Václav (referee)
Martyrdom of Ignatius of Antioch Rostislava Gažíková Fečová Summary The Bachelor thesis "The Martyrdom of Ignatius of Antioch", deals with the life, work and martyrdom of Ignatius, the second bishop of Antioch in Syria. Ignatius was a great personality of early Christian church in the late 1st / early 2nd century AD. His life story and legacy is still a subject of the theological research. Especially, researchers in the field of patristics, they take interest in the martyrdom of Ignatius and in the seven letters he wrote going to die in Rome. His ideas about the death, full of the real belief in Jesus Christ, made grounds for the theology of martyrdom. The famous expression of the letter to Romans I am the wheat of God, and let me be ground by the teeth of the wild beasts, that I may be found the pure bread of Christ (Rom 4, 6), is still well-known. My thesis is divided into five chapters: the first chapter is subject of Ignatius's sphere, the city called Antioch in Syria, which belonged to the most important centres of the early Christianity. The second chapter examines the life story of Ignatius of Antioch in the reign of Emperor Trajan (98-117 AD). The third chapter describes Ignatius martyr's death in witness and legends. According to the tradition, he died in the Roman arena Colosseum, as food for the...

Outrata, Filip ; Karfíková, Lenka (advisor) ; Hušek, Vít (referee) ; Ventura, Václav (referee)
The thesis focuses on the theology of Julian of Aeclanum, the most persistent adversary of Augustine of Hippo in the so-called Pelagian controversy. The aim is to present Julian's theology as a whole and trace its sources, especially in the anti-manichaean works of a group of authors of the Christian East (Titus of Bostra, Serapion of Thmuis, Basil of Kaisareia, Eusebios of Emesa) as well as authors of baptismal catecheses of Antiochian tradition, notably John Chrysostom and Theodore of Mopsuestia. In the first chapter, the personality and oeuvre of Julian of Aeclanum, characteristic traces of his polemic, connections with his important predecessors and his philosophical and exegetical profile are sketched. The core of the work, overview of Julian's theology, concentrates successively on sin and free will, polemic against the notion of inherited (natural) sin and the positive concept of baptismal grace, justice and law in its twofold form, natural as well as written Mosaic law, natural character of physical mortality, christology and soteriology stressing the human nature of Christ and his role of example, and finally, ascensive concept of grace beginning on the level of creation and rising to the redemptive work of Christ. The comparison of Julian's theological concepts with its eastern sources and...

Impacts of diversity of rites on matrimonial cases at ecclesiastical courts
