The dissertation entitled "Religious Issues in Karolina Světlá's Ještěd Novels" deals with an analysis of the Ještěd Novels by the author Karolina Světlá. It characterises the depiction of vernacular devoutness in the novels by means of an analysis of the changes in the characters' religious consciousness and their subsequent interpretation. The paper confronts the fictional depiction of the various forms of religiousness with real historic facts; the most important factors of the religious positions of the "long" 19th century are verified on the scale of the Ještěd Novels. The objective of the paper is to shed light on the progressive qualitative changes in Karolina Světlá's works of prose and interpret them against the backdrop of the defined problem area, which is the period concept of devoutness and attitudes to faith as such.

This work has an analytical-interpretative character. The analytical part contains an analysis of individual pieces of czech literature of the 19th century and folk stories which contain the water-spirit character. There is also a brief introduction of the method. The character and look of a water-spirit is analysed according to the theory of a literary character by Daniela Hodrová or Bohumil Fořt. The interpretative part looks on the problematics of a water-sprite as on a relationship between a male and female characters. The suggested options of an interpretation are merged using a psychoanalytic approach.

Vlčková, Barbora ; Šmahelová, Hana (advisor) ; Vaněk, Václav (referee)
The bachelor thesis Fairy-tale Motives in Epic of the 2nd half of the 19th Century is based on an analysis of selected texts and their reading, which lead to the enlightening of meaning-creating function of fairy-tale motives in the 2nd half of the 19th Century. The thesis focuses itself on the form of a fairy-tale as a specific narrative form and on a transformation of its function within the context of poetry using fairy-tale features. At the same time, the reference to the tradition of folk fairy-tale is reflected, being represented by the personalities of Karel Jaromír Erben and Božena Němcová. Interpretation of the works is grounded on the study of Vladimír Propp Morfologie pohádky (Morphology of Fairy-tale) which established the structure of fairy-tale functions. The conclusions of this work are based on the comparison of the epic pieces Dědův odkaz (Grandpa's Legacy) by Adolf Heyduk and Vyšehrad by Julius Zeyer with Propp's functional analysis.

Further notes the diversity of characters that fill this environment. It follows the features of both groups, but also the diversity of their rendition of the individual authors. The second section focuses on the work of the Prague underground. Pays attention to both its appearance, but also various ways of its use by humans and changes in the underground at a later time. The final chapter presents a brief look at the grip of this theme in film and theater.

Abstract The thesis deals with the relation of Ivan Olbracht and Subcarpathian Rus. Giving a brief summary of examined territory's history, the authoress attends to Olbracht's Subcarpathian stay and its influence on his work. Olbracht was challenged by the social and political conditions of fossil region to write a set of reportages released in newspaper and afterwards in a double book edition (Země bez jména, Hory a staletí). In the reportages he prepaired a factual and epical field for his prosaic pieces - Nikola Šuhaj loupežník and Golet v údolí (for completeness' sake it's essential to mention Marijka nevěrnice). Authoress devotes herself to a thematic analysis of reportages observing the way Olbracht depicted no longer existing culture and community. She applies this thematic outline on the outlaw novel and the triptych of short stories. It is hereby documented Olbracht's methodics consisting in a stratified narration based on two main layers: factual (empirical) and legendary (poetic).
