The choir music by Jan Hanuš - music and social connections

This diploma thesis is concerned with the life and work of Jan Hanuš, a significant Czech composer of the second half of the 20th century. Hanuš was born in 1915 and died in 2004, having spent a long and fruitful life of a musical editor, composer and office holder, a life that was, however, deeply affected by the frequent political and social upheavals of the time. The main objective of the paper is to examine Hanuš's compositional output within the genre of choral music in the broader context of his other works, and his private and social life. For this purpose, five distinctive periods of Hanuš's career are outlined (1938-1948; 1949-1954; 1955-1968; 1969-1989; 1990-2004), and in each of them the three separate facets of his life (i.e. his choral works, his compositions in other genres, and his professional as well as personal life conditions) are scrutinized and compared. Another goal is to trace the gradual development throughout the years of Hanuš's compositional style within the field of choral music, and to draw specific conclusions from the acquired findings as to the assets and shortcomings of his contribution to the genre in general. New stimulation for creating of computer programs in the sight singing

The aim of this diploma thesis is to introduce new stimuli to programmers of ear-training software. In the first part, a brief description of six already existing eartraining computer programs is given. The second part focuses on the features of a new software which trains the sight-singing of melodies in musical scores with several voices sounding at the same time. In the third part, the question of feedback is addressed, along with other technical details.

František Xaver Brixi - Kyrie and Gloria in D.

Das Ziel dieser Master-Arbeit ist die Komposition des tschechischen Komponists des 18. Jahrhundert aufzuleben, konkret Kyrie et Gloria in G (Missa solemnis) des František Xaver Brixi, die Partitur aus den verschiedenen Parten zusammenzusetzen, die Annotation zumachen und Generalbass zu erarbeiten. Ein Bestandteil der Arbeit ist auch die Analyse der Komposition und kurze Übersicht des Lebenslaufs des Komponists und seiner Schöpfung. Die Grundlage der Arbeit ist keine musikologische Studie herzustellen. Sie ist vor allem praktisch an die Realisation und die Aufnahme der Musik auf CD gezielt.

Arrangements for School Brass Orchestra

Diplomová práce pojednává o historickém vývoji dechových hudeb v období od zakládání orchestrů rakousko-uherské armády v 19. století přes vývoj orchestrů vojenských a civilních dechových hudeb v průběhu 20. století až po současnost. S vývojem dechového orchestru úzce souvisí rozšiřování repertoáru, vznik nových aranží a formování pohledu na aranžérskou práci. Následují kapitoly, které obsahují vymezení základních pojmů aranžování a instrumentace a detailní charakteristiku jednotlivých nástrojů dechového orchestru, jejich rozsah a notaci. V práci byl definován školní dechový orchestr, jeho funkce a možnost variability. V kapitole aranžování vedle všeobecných zásad jsou také demonstrovány možnosti aranžování pro školní dechový orchestr na konkrétních vlastních příkladech.

Role of the Choirmaster in the Genre of the Musical

Cílem mé práce je představit muzikál jako formu hudebního divadla a přiblížit práci muzikálového sbormistra, která bývá velice často podceňována, stejně jako žánr samotný. Bohužel musím konstatovat, že některými jedinci je vnímán jako určitá forma nic neříkajícího "bulvárního" divadla. Většinou tyto "definice" pramení z neznalosti a nedostatku informací. Díky totalitnímu režimu, který v naší republice vládl po dobu čtyřiceti let, byl muzikál vnímán jako pokleslé umění kapitalistického světa. Za první "muzikálový" počin v Čechách se dá považovat předválečná Vest Pocket Revue Jiřího Voskovce a Jana Wericha. Premiéra se konala 19. 4. 1927 ve dvoraně Umělecké besedy na Malé Straně pod patronátem absolventského klubu dijonského lycea, které navštěvoval Jiří Voskovec v letech 1921-24. Premiéra měla být zároveň i derniérou, jenomže pro úspěch u publika a části kritiky se těch představení uskutečnilo celkem 208 (některé prameny uvádějí až 245 repríz). Pod hlavičkou Osvobozeného divadla se revue hrála poprvé 28. 5. 1927. Devatenáct obrazů revue se střídavě odehrává na scéně a na předscéně, aby se mezitím mohly vyměnit kulisy. Tady je počátek pověstných forbín, které se pak v představeních V+W objevovaly pravidelně. Jednotlivé obrazy tvořily uzavřené celky, které mohly obstát i samostatně. Navzájem je spojovala pouze...

Theme of this diploma work is Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Elijah. Introductory chapter is dedicated to a composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and his biography. This oratorio Elijah is lined up to a wide context of composer`s production. Succesive chapter "Libretto" tells a story about prophet Elijah and refer to relevant chapters the First and the Second Kings in the Old Testament which contents this story. Common characterization formal part of oratorio Elijah sets out chapter precede fundamental chapter "Analysis oratorio Elijah". Analysis of each oratorio parts are pursued mainly from point of view both harmony musical express and text. The a capella Compositions of Antonín Dvořák

As a conclusion of this work I will try to sum up the achieved information. The complete list of the compositions belonging to the field of study could be assessed as the first success together with the details of description. Another success was the literal tracing of the newspaper articles concerning the announcements of concerts as well as reviews of those concerts in the then papers. The analyses of the compositions (see chapter No. 5) were important for the deeper insight into the topic; and an interestingly varied perspective of the problems was offered by the special questionnaire (see chapter No. 9). At the beginning of this study I set a goal of reaching a certain resuscitation of the works, their summary and bringing their charm nearer to broad audience. The synoptic list of the compositions is to be found not only within the chapter No. 3 and 4 but also No. 8, where there appear the experts' opinions concerning these works often revealing some of the backstage details. Undoubtedly, chapter No. 5 dealing with the analysis of works was a further revelation of the captivating beauty of those works. Such a detailed analysis at the same time helps the audience get a certain insight into the structure of the compositions and thus indirectly looks "over the shoulder" of the composer himself. The...
