YEAR OF SUBMISSION: 2023 ABSTRACT: The cosmologies contained in excavated texts from the Warring States period, such as Taiyi Sheng Shui 太 一生水, Heng Xian 恆先, or Fan Wu Liu Xing 凡物流形, shed new light on the landscape of early Chinese thought. The work seeks to build a coherent argument through which the previously disconnected elements of the texts in question would come together in a logical way. It starts from the reconstruction of the main features of the cosmologies contained in these texts and, on their basis, proposes the reformulation of the basic concepts used in early Chinese texts. Using process philosophy as a conceptual arsenal, the work traces new connections between fundamental ontological concepts in Chinese texts. Time and Bureaucracy in the Cosmologies of Early Tianshidao (2nd-5th century)

The dissertation focuses on the texts of a religious movement known as Tianshidao (the Way of the Celestial Masters) from the 2nd to the 5th century CE. Tianshidao is presented as a multifaceted tradition that should not be reduced by a predefned essence or a teleological vision of history. Instead of reconstructing one coherent cosmology, the author interprets the texts as representing various alternative cosmologies. They are compared according to the theory of cultural bias of Mary Douglas, in terms of grid and group. Special atention is paid to the employment of the bureaucratic imagery and the representations of time which are interpreted in the context of the cultural bias and the various modes of relationship towards the institutions of Tianshidao and the state. The author also analyses the millennialist character of the movement which was noted by previous research and distinguishes between various types of millennialism. Structure and Temporality of Guanzi

Tato práce se zaměřuje na problematiku identity staročínských textů. Na příkladu spisu Guanzi se snaží ukázat, nakolik náš přístup k těmto textům předem determinuje jejich pochopení. Východiskem úvah o textu je jednak koncept anachronie, tak jak jej chápe Georg Didi-Huberman, který zde pomáhá osvětlit problematiku časovosti textu; a jednak koncept rhizomu dle Gillesa Deleuze a Felixe Guattariho, kterým se snažím uchopit problematiku struktury textu. Práce ponejprv zkoumá dostupné poznatky o tomto spisu a specificky se zaměřuje na tzv. kapitoly Xinshu, a též bere v potaz současný stav bádání na poli archeologicky získaných rukopisů a domýšlí vztah těchto poznatků k bádání nad předanými texty. Dále se zamýšlí nad teoretickou možností aplikace výše zmíněných konceptů na texty tohoto období. V závěrečné části se pak dotčené kapitoly analyzovat s pomocí těchto konceptů. Součástí práce je též kompletní překlad tří kapitol (Xinshu shang, Xinshu xia a Baixin). Práce ukazuje, že otázka konceptů a metodologií, které ve zkoumání staročínských spisů používáme, zásadně determinuje náš přístup k nim, ale také ukazuje, že určité prvky z výše uvedených konceptů jsou latentně přítomny v našem uvažování k těmto spisům. Práce tedy směřuje především k apelu na důslednější přezkoumávání teoretických základů našeho bádání....

Han Fei's Strategy in Interpretation and Adaptation of the Laozi

The bachelor thesis Han Fei's Strategy in Interpreting the Laozi deals with the first known commentary of the Laozi, one of the fundamental works of the so-called philosophical taoism, found in the work of Han Fei, the leading proponent of legalism. The work summarizes the current state of knowledge concerning the dating and authorship of the Laozi. It also outlines the broader context of the Warring States period thinking and draws attention to the problem of traditional categorization into schools of thought. The focus of the work is a philosophical analysis of the Jie Lao 解 老 and Yu Lao 喻老 chapters, as well as some other relevant chapters of the Hanfeizi. Han Fei's interpreting strategy is demonstrated on the examples taken from the two texts, accompanied by original translations for that purpose.

Guo Xiang's commentary on the inner chapters of the Zhuangzi

V této práci jsme analyzovali teoretické předpoklady, strategie a formální výstavbu Guo Xiangova komentáře k Vnitřním kapitolám díla Zhuangzi, přičemž jsme vyšli z dějin žánru komentáře, jak se vyvíjel v době dynastie Han a ve 3. stol. n. I. Klíčovým byl zejména výklad o Wang Biho komentáři k dílu Laozi, který s Guo Xiangovým komentářem sdílí základní teoretické předpoklady i strategie komentování. Mezi tyto předpoklady a strategie patří zejména přesvědčení o osobnostní nadřazenosti Konfucia nad Laoziem/Zhuangziem, vyvážené přesvědčením o diskurzivní nadřazenosti děl Laozi a Zhuangzi nad díly Světce. Oba komentáře rovněž sdílejí základní strategii komentování, jejíž podstatou je vytváření odkazů na další místa textu (v případě Wang Biho je tento přístup systematičtější). Oba komentátoři dále text významově sjednocují prostřednictvím výkladu různých pasáží komentovaného textu pomocí totožných termínů a idejí.
