Absolute Pitch: Theoretical Concept and Practical Issues

The thesis aims at complex assessment of absolute pitch both theoretically and practically. It describes the functioning of ear and main issues related to processing of sound and tone height. In addition, it clarifies related terms stemming from musical psychology. Especially, it endeavours to identify causes of absolute pitch and factors which form it. The thesis surveys several phenomena connected with absolute pitch, for example with synesthesia, and with other aspects such as occurrence of absolute pitch among population. It uses not only the Czech but especially English written literature which has not yet been used in such a scope in the Czech musical research.
Project: Pre-school aesthetical education "PAE"

The main topic of this diploma thesis is project called Pre-school aesthetic education "PAE", which is tought at Elementary Art School. In theoretical part are generally explained terms aesthetic, aesthetic education and their brief history, current possibilities of aesthetic education in selected Elementary Art Schools and characteristic of PAE project. Research part focus on acquisition of the project in education at Elementary Art Schools, effectiveness in the selection of artistic field in pre-school age and at least suitability of including this project into the School Education Program of other Elementary Art Schools. For the research were used empirical methods (observations, questionnaire, interviews). Overall results of research are based on comparison and evaluation of the answers from all respondent categories. These results show positive evaluation of PAE, which suitably fills the pre-school period of children with meaningful activities, which are connected with comprehensive development of personality. Structure and Research of Out-Of-School Influences on the Musical Development of the Child

The Diploma Thesis deals with the matters of children's musicality and the main factors influencing it. The thesis includes a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the musicality issue and its structure, as well as on the factors that participate in this matter. Special attention is put to the out-of-school influences on the development of musicality. There is an outline of the influence of a family and its members, characteristics of a contemporary family and a present-day lifestyle. The thesis also deals with a social group influence and the impact of mass media, such as television, computers and the Internet. One of the subchapters is dedicated to the out-of-school artistic interests of children; another one deals with how music around us can act in a form of commercials, or in a store, for example. The practical part of this thesis is formed through a research oriented to the out-of-school influences mentioned above. This research was held at Libčická Primary School, Prague. Influence of visual images on forming listening skills of elementary school music students

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of visualisaion during listening to the music in the music lessons at the elementary school. The thesis contains suggestions for both: visualisation-based listening work and listening work without visualisation. Theoretical part contains theoretical background of the topic. It covers the development of the listening activities, describes their contemporary conception and deals with their psychological aspects. Practical part of this study comprises the research surveys with didactic materials. Part of the work is a CD with listening tests, presentations and videostreams, which are adapted for presentation during classes.
Children Operas by J. Uhlir and Z. Sverak and their didactic utilisation

This thesis discusses children's operas by J. Uhlir and Z. Sverak. It consists of brief biographies of both authors, summary of the origin of literary stories - fairy tales for simple librettos written by Z. Sverak, the theoretical implementation of the concept of children's operas and a practical analysis of each opera: Budulinek, Karkulka (Little Red Riding Hood), O dvanacti mesickach (The Twelve Months), Sipkova Ruzenka (Sleeping Beauty). Structural analysis has then been applied - the operas were divided into scenes, each musically analysed in terms of their melodies, harmonies and forms. Next, possible didactically challenging parts have been identified and how to use these rhythm, intonation and language issues for lesson planning have been suggested. In the next part of the thesis, the afore-mentioned issues have been empirically verified using the following methods - observation, practical class-leading and reflexive analysis of video recordings. Present state of listening activities in elementary school music lessons, and didactic suggestions for the integration of these activities in school teaching

The present state of listening activities in elementary school music lessons, and didactic suggestions for the integration of these activities in school teaching The thesis looks into the employment of listening activities at contemporary Czech schools. Its primary aim is to boost the motivation of school children to listen to classical music by means of choosing their preferred pieces in music lessons. The thesis consists of two parts, the theoretical part and the practical part. The theoretical part analyses available sources connected with listening activities, such as materials for teachers, and textbooks certified by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports as one of possible tools. It looks into the place of listening activities in the contemporary Czech curriculum, and presents also information about listening from the music therapy point of view. The practical part analyses the present situation in the employment of listening activities at our schools. It detects spontaneous preferences of pupils in listening to classical music, and suggests how to use these spontaneous preferences to enhance the quality of music education at school, and build and encourage positive attitude of school children to classical music.
