Mainly, it should focus on the number of casualties resulting from the military conflicts in terms of direct and indirect. The work will try to find the answer to two questions. And what is the significance of displacement in terms of the death rate. The thesis is divided into two main chapters. The first chapter concentrates on the discussion created by the contemporary literature in the topic of impacts of military conflicts on the affected population. Cvetkovićová, Katarina ; Tomeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Martínek, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the regional differentiation in Serbia with regards to the question of the country's accession to the European Union (EU). The analysis is based on a voting preferences of pro-European or Eurosceptic political parties and leaders. The prerequisite is a north-south polarization of these preferences correlating with socio-economic maturity of the region. Thesis uses electoral geography to determine if this correlation exists and if so, how stable it is in the time period. The first part of the thesis discusses a general theory of regional differentiation of electoral results, the emergence and development of nationalism in Serbia and Serbia's relations and cooperation with the EU. The second part of the thesis attempts to provide an objective image of the Serbian political scene, its electoral history and main political affairs. These two parts, in which the thematic literature is discussed, serve as a theoretical framework for the third part of the thesis which deals with the analysis of electoral results in socio-economic frame and also contains a discussion of the results of correlation. Regional Development in Sweden after 1990
Klíma, David ; Tomeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Vogt, David (referee)
Purpose of this paper is to study if and how are changing regional pattern and regional disparities in last decades in Sweden, one of the most homogeneous country in the world. Globalization and intensified competitiveness which affect not only companies and economic sectors, but also states and regions contribute to a changing pattern. Even a traditionally homogeneous and egalitarian Sweden is changing. Paper examines regional development in Sweden by social-economic indicators and basic statistic and indicates wider connection of this development. Basic hypothesis is that crisis and intensified competitiveness contribute to a deepening of regional disparities. In last twenty years regional disparities are growing indeed and they are probably related to a recession, but dominant factors cannot be pointed out with certainty. Increase of regional variability is related to just some social and economic aspect. In many aspects Sweden remains the most homogenous country in Europe. The paper is focused on county level. Key words: regional development, regional disparities, Sweden, globalization, crisis

Matyáštík, Ladislav ; Tomeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Novotný, Josef (referee)
This study examines the regional development in Finland during the economic and social changes in the 1990s. Economic development and the boom of information and communication technologies (ICT) is described in the Chapter 1; the discussion about the factors behind the success of the Finnish telecommunication sector follows. The whole development in the 1990s is then called a "social transformation" because of the enormous impact of the economic and social changes. Chapter 2 deals with the Finnish regional policy, which is mainly concentrated on the biggest agglomerations and tries to improve their global competitiveness and performance in the ICT field. Chapter 3 analyzes the impact of the mentioned economic and social changes primarily on the 72 Finnish sub-regions and secondarily on the 20 administrative regions, using the data from the Statistics Finland to evaluate the success of the regions in the transformation period in terms of population and economic development. Empirical evidence is found for three main conclusions: (1) there was a significant growth of regional disparities during the transformation period, (2) the southern part of Finland continues to gain prominence, mainly thanks to the ongoing concentration of population and economic activity in the Greater Helsinki region and (3) the...
Serbia - Geographical Aspects of Development after 1990
Čoček, Ladislav ; Tomeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Fňukal, Miloš (referee)
The main aim of this work is to determine if typical processes of regional development during transition and transformation period, as they have been observed in other post-communist countries, are taking place in Serbia and, on the other hand, what processes are specific for the country. Three hypotheses are set: (1) economic convergence during times of industrial decline, (2) reproduction and deepening of north-south zonality and (3) concentration of economy being the dominant regional process during the periods of growth. The primary method employed in the work is examination of basic indicators of regional variability applied on GDP per capita and simple aggregate of employment and average wages. The findings are proved using principal component analysis and cluster analysis. Conclusion resulting from the empirical part are following: regional convergence was confirmed only during the first years of 1990's and during transformation was replaced by strong divergence typical for other post-communist countries. The north-south zonality appears to be strong, but the dominant determinant of regional development proved to be position in the settlement system hierarchy. The dominant regional processes of the transformation period are therefore equivalent to those observed elsewhere. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
