Russia-Belarus Unification. Chosen Problems and perspectives of Union State (1999-2008)
Osipova, Kristina ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (advisor) ; Svoboda, Karel (referee)
Russo-Belarus Unification. Chosen Problems and perspectives of Union State (1999-2008). The main subject of the diploma thesis is cooperation between Russia and Belarus within the Union State of Russia and Belarus, which was established in 1999. After the break up of the USSR, cooperation between the newly independent states was largely defined by their membership in CIS. However, during the first five years an integration core emerged, consisting of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. These states were mainly cooperating in economic sphere, which finally emerged into international organization (Eurasian Economic Community). Belarus is one of the former Soviet republics, which kept and is still keeping very close relations with Russian Federation. Their bilateral integration begins after the breakup of USSR and culminates in 1999, when treaty of establishing Union State of Russia and Belarus is signed. During the almost 10 year period between 1999 and 2008, however, the cooperation did not move forward as was originally planned. In my opinion, the main topics which delay effective Russo-Belarus integration are as follows: prices for energetic commodities (oil and gas) for Belarus; implementation of common currency - Russian ruble; and ratification of Constitutional Act of Union State....

Resumé For my master work I chose a topic from the Russian ekonomie sphere: The Influence of the 1998 Financial Crisis on the Russian Banking Sector. I also set the thesis that Russian financial crisis had a positive impact on banking in sense of its further stabilisation. First part is dedicated to events during interval 1987-1997. At the beginning of mentioned era was made a clue reform of Soviet banking and the two-tier banking system arose for the first time in the history. Since that we could speak about historical tradition of modem banking. In the opening part I dealed with turbulent development of banking system, which evolved in unfavourable ekonomie conditions. I mention banking legislative, huge growth of credit organisations, its illegal operations like money laundering or capital flight and I also describe the rise of banking financial-industrial groups headed by powerful Russian oligarchs. Oligarchs like Chodorkovsky, Potanin or Vinogradov...

Bachelor thesis "The Falklands War on the Pages of Rudé právo" is about the attitude of the Czech media, particularly Rudé právo. The Falklands' war between Argentina and Great Britain occurred in mid 1982. This thesis will try to tackle some of the unanswered questions on how much space had been dedicated to this conflict by Rudé právo's pages and how it was interpreted to its readers. Above all is this an ideology of unanswered questions or is it an opposition leaning towards either side of the conflict and if so, whether and how they manifested their sympathy to justify their pages. The first part of this work is characterized by a brief historical context of the early eighties of the twentieth century, the second part is orderly devoted to practical analytical work.
"The Politicization of Russian Energy Exports based on the Example of Natural Gas"
Lipavský, Jan ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Horák, Slavomír (referee)
The topic of this thesis is the politicization of energy supplies to Europe. The introduction deals with the characterization of European dependency on the import of energy. At the same time, the introductory part analyzes the structure of Russian import, including the transport channels and its geopolitical consequences. The main body of the thesis is devoted to research on Gazprom. It traces the origins of this company's affiliation with Russian government and its subsequent emergence as the main international player on the field of energy. Two case studies are used to demonstrate Gazprom's ambiguous relationship with, first of all, countries through which the transport routes pass - Ukraine and Belarus, and, secondly, the relationship with the producing state, in this case Turkmenistan (for its substantial natural gas resources). The outcome of the analysis is the identification of three main factors that are most influential in Gazprom's foreign policy. First being Gazprom's attempts to raise the prices for the CIS states to equate those of the rest of Europe. The second factor is Gazprom's effort to secure its proceeds through massive expansion to foreign market. Finally, Gazprom is working on securing its control of the reserves of natural resources in the Caspian region.
