Sport as a Public Service: Equity and Efficiency of Local Sport Facilities

Title: Sport as a Public Service: Equity and Efficiency of Local Sport Facilities In the Czech Republic, clubs traditionally played a key role in providing sport facilities. In recent years, the role of local authorities in sport has strengthened. Hence, there have been changes in the management of sport facilities in the context of new trends in public administration and sport participation. The thesis analyzes and evaluates current modes of provision of public sport facilities as the consequence of these changes. The examined issue is narrowed down to the two theoretical concepts - sport equity and efficiency of sport facilities. These are perceived as a part of the performance of sport facilities (see Liu et al., 2009 or Kung and Taylor, 2010). The first part of the thesis aims to test the effect of different forms of management of sports facilities on the sport equity score in the framework of institutional analysis (Houlihan, 2005). On the basis of the original instrument for measuring of sport equity, the survey is carried out. The research sample (N = 193) is made up by the municipalities with extended powers, except for regional cities and Prague. The second part of the thesis has the character of an action research. Role of civic organizations in the life of small municipalities

Title: The role of the civic organizations in the life of the small municipalities Objectives: The main objective is to evaluate the relationship between civil society organizations and representatives of public administration in terms of their common aspiration to build cohesion in the former Association of Municipalities Neveklovsko. Defunct micro-region is also subject to consideration of future similar institutions. Methods: This multi-case study is based on analysis of data collected in selected community association Neveklovsko. The project will also draw information from public printed materials. This project will be based on semi-structured interviews with the mayors of municipalities and chosen representatives of civic associations. Results: We found that all municipalities of examined micro-region realize the importance and interest groups in the villages. Municipalities are trying to make these voluntary organizations to promote and ensure better social life of the inhabitants. Recently, the municipalities of the former micro-region worked together again in the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the eviction of Neveklovsko. Recreating of micro-region is not in a sight. Sport in leisure of Dobříš town citizens

Name: Sports in leisure of Dobříš town citizens Goals: The main objective of this thesis is to find out what is the role of sport in leisure activities of citizens of Dobříš. The second goal is to obtain information about which means are used to support sports activities of citizens by city leaders. Methods: In my work, I use methods of empirical social research. I chose a quantitative method of questionnaire survey and qualitative semi-structured interview method because I'm interested in people's as well as the mayor's opinion. Results: The local sports situation has been assessed and analyzed. Thanks to the questionnaire survey, citizens' views on the issues of sports possibilities in Dobříš, their attitude and participation in sport were identified. The data are interpreted and displayed in tables and graphs in a result section, as well as an interview with the mayor. The role of the region in sport development - Case study of Liberec region

Title: The role of the region in sport development - Case study of Liberec region Objectives: The main objective of this thesis is set to analyse the role of the region bodies of authority in sport development illustrated by a concrete example of the Liberec region. A partial objective is to describe and analyse tools of the regional sport policy and to analyse regional budget sport financing. Methods: There was used the case study design in the diploma thesis to find out the situation of sport policy in Liberec region. Informations were collected from the documents, which are available in public and from internal documents. For data collection there was also used a method of semi - structured interview. Content analysis of documents and interviews was used for the evaluation. Then the SWOT analysis was worked up. Results: In the thesis, the most important tools of the Liberec region sport policy were described. The regional budget was allocated to sport the most funds in 2008, when the amount exceeds 120 million CZK. This fact was affected by organizing international sport events in the Liberec region. - 6 - Abstract Title: Analysis of sports-leisure activities of children of an older school-age in Prague 11 - South city Objectives: The aim of my thesis is to map the options for leisure activities in Prague 11. I want to find out: a) the involvement of children in the age of the early adolescence in sport b) opinion of that children on the conditions for sports and physical activities. The work includes not only the organized form of sports activities, we are also interested in disorganized sports activities, which options are often limited to the Prague settlement. Furthermore, we are interested in the view of the responsible employees of some sports organizations in Prague 11 on sports and leisure activities. Methods: For my thesis I took advantage of my knowledge of methods of qualitative and quantitative research. Title: General Project for Private Kindergardens Objectives: The primary aim of this diploma thesis is a survey of quality in organization of physical activities at the private kindergardens in Liberec. The secondary aim is to create a general framework for a specific kindergarden incorporated into the Czech Republic Idex of Kindergardens. Methods: This work combines direct, indirect and document methods; namely observing, dialogues, subject analysis and analysis of a secondary pedagogical school curriculum, which is a basis for theoretical and then consecutively for practical starting points of the work. The ascertained data are processed quantitatively. Results: Launching out into the market sector of private kindergardens in Liberec is not difficult. The quality of the physical activities offer shows an average up to below- average level but they keep a leading position in number of children per one teacher. Furthemore, there was found a lack in conducting children within physical activities in the public kindergardens in Liberec. Sport policy and public financing of sports in Finland

: Title: Sport Policy and Sports Funding from Public Sources in Finland Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to describe how works sport culture in Finland. The thesis shows a high level of attention devote to sport and physical activities with focus on funding of the sport from public sources and lottery business (Veikkaus). The thesis provides knowledge and new information about sport culture in Finland. Methods: I have used methods of case studies and explanation, which allow me to analyze system of sport funding and sport organization in Finland. The methods were combined with secondary information to obtain furthur insight into the sport system in Finland. Results: A high level of sport policy and sports funding from public sources is proved in Finland. Satisfaction of Finns with sport conditions are documented in Eurobarometr survey. Public funding of sport in Finland is above average compere to other EU states. Due to lottery Veikkaus, state funding in to sport has long term increasing trend. Finnish sport culture highlights and characterizes providing precondition from municipalities and Finnish sport culture is driven by voluntary sector. The Active Lifestyle of Undergraduates (Students of FEE CTU)

The active lifestyle of undergraduates (students of The Faculty of Electrical Engineering of CTU in Prague) The main aim of this study was to investigate what opinions, attitudes and practices of students of FEE CTU change and develop during the university studies in selected dimensions of an active lifestyle. It was done by the mixed research. The main research was carried out by using the method of repeated cross-sectional quest, when the incoming students to the first volume in 2007 in the count of 625 were immediately underwent the questionnaire quest after their entering to the school in October in 2007 and students of higher volumes in the count of 581 then at least after 4 passed semesters of their studies in May and June in 2008. Changes between the two groups were proved by "effect size", which was calculated in each indicator as the difference of relative frequencies of "median categories" of both files. To further identify the causes of found differences by questionnaire quest using statistical methods between the collection of students of the first volume and the collection of students of higher volumes, were used techniques of qualitative research at the conclusion - individual and group interviews with 32 students of higher classes and content analysis of written text, which was...
