The development of chosen civil society aspects in the border areas of South Bohemia after the year 1989
Mynařík, Ondřej ; Muhič Dizdarevič, Selma (advisor) ; Skovajsa, Marek (referee)
The thesis aims at specifying chosen historical aspects of civil society development in border areas of South Bohemia, namely the Šumava Mountains. These specifics are determined mainly by forced disruption of the natural development in the region after the World War II, considering especially the forced evacuation of German minority and the closure of the area due to the origin of so called "iron curtain", generated by the communist regime. These events caused the disruption of civil society traditions in the region of interest , and the continuity can be restored only partially, being impacted by the current crisis of traditional values in the society. On the other hand, the development after 1989 displays completely new trends focused on tourism, nature conservat ion, cross-border cooperation as well as other profit - oriented activities. The informal components and traditions of regional civil society based on religion, solidarity, relationship to land and environment still lag behind though the sphere of educational and cultural programs, including shared cross-border cultural and educational and information programs, develops success fully, being supported by communal policy, statutory bodies and public administration. The institutional basis of civil sector activities is broader, mainly due to...
Searching for Civil Society. Dominik Tatarka 1968-1969
Kutaj, Pavol ; Havelka, Miloš (advisor) ; Skovajsa, Marek (referee)
The topic of this historical research based on a constructive paradigm is the development of civil society in Slovakia. This orientation is realised through the research of the life and work of the Slovak writer Dominik Tatarka, with a focus on the essays he wrote in the course of the reform movement of the Prague Spring. In the chapter called Contextualisation, there is an explanation of the influence of social and political developments on this author between 1913 and 1967. In the following chapter, called Interpretation, there is an attempt to understand Tatarka's concept of culture, which he presented and published in 1968-1969. This understanding is done from the perspective of the theory of civil society with a method of qualitative content analysis. Contribution to the topic lies in the conclusion that the basis of Dominik Tatarka's political and philosophical ideas is similar to the basis of ideas establishing a civil society. Specific to the case of Slovak society in 1968, however, was the fact that it was only partially modernized and that the first political and cultural priority was the defense of the national interest. By applying his ideas to Slovak society, Tatarka arrives at conclusions that are, from the perspective of the theory of civil society, contradictory and do not allow us to label...

Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Philanthropy gain importance by many foreign and also czech companies. Companies are aware that to strenghten their position on the market they have to focus attention to the needs and interest of society and not only to making profit. Corporate volunteering in the Czech republic is relatively a new type of volunteering, so in this dissertation my aim is not only to explain the characteristic of volunteering and concept of Corporate Social Responsibility but also to describe the corporate volunteering mechanism. I refer to corporate volunteering forms and its advantages. In some particular companies, such as ČSOB, T-Mobile and Česká spořitelna, I researched both the company side and the employees/volunteers side as well. By means of questionnairies I was able to find the importance of corporate volunteering for particular employees, what attracts them to it, what is the motivation to participate on this project and which areas of support they prefer. Through interviews I found what brings this project to particular companies and why they do it. The whole corporate volunteering issue and why it is important is summarized at the conclusion.

Lévinasian Civil Society?Občanská společnost podle Emmanuela Lévinase
Pštross, Mikuláš ; Skovajsa, Marek (advisor) ; Muhič Dizdarevič, Selma (referee)
This master's thesis aims to define the conception of civil society through the concepts related to civil society as concerned with by Emmanuel Lévinas in his philosophy, in particular the third, justice, the State, human rights. Although the concept of civil society was not a separate subject matter in his thought, his analysis of the tight relation between Ethics and Politics provides us a convenient framework for this approach. While employing Charles Taylor's conception of civil society as a basis for proposing the definition of civil society according to Lévinas, the major question pursued in this thesis is: what conception of civil society Lévinas's thought allows for.

The Role of Action in the Perspective of Hannah Arendt's Political Philosophy in Contemporary Civil Society
Muzikářová, Šárka ; Novotný, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Skovajsa, Marek (referee)
For the philosopher Hannah Arendt, the term vita activa comprehends three fundamental human activities-labor, work and action. All three activities shall be part of our life and, ideally, they shall be balanced. Besides being in balance, Arendt believes that action is the most important one of them. Through action, man steps out of the loneliness which he needs for his work and enters the public realm that helps to form. There he establishes a mutual relationships with the others, negotiates, persuades and confirms his presence. But this is not possible if a man transforms himself, because of his relation to work, into the homo faber or, in the worst case, into the animal laborans. Work and expenditure take control of his life. This, together with bureaucracy, the influence of technology and mass being, increases the feeling of loneliness and insignificancy, and opens a space for violence, terror and ideology what can cause the governance of totalitarianism. If we agree that Arendt's conception of the public realm is, in the basic characteristics and on the most general level, similar to civil society from our modern viewpoint, we gain "new" realm where man can act and can gain the experience of action. The integrity of his vita activa is restored. It means that a man should be less threatened by...
