Towards the New World Order? A Geopolitical study of Neo-Eurasianism and Meridionalism.
Morgado Albino, Nuno ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Kofroň, Jan (referee) ; Békési, László (referee)
To answer the research question Are Neo-Eurasianism and Meridionalism somehow related to a New World Order? from the geopolitical studies' angle, was the center of gravity of this thesis. In that context, the main goal was to analyze and compare Neo-Eurasianism and Meridionalism, characterizing them as ideologies. In the same line, it was also explained how those ideologies aim to shape a New World Order. Therefore, Neo-Eurasianism and Meridionalism were characterized as strategic plans as well. The theoretical approach included assumptions from the realist theoretical tradition of International Relations, but the priority was given to the geopolitical studies' approach tout court. The thesis is eminently a qualitative study, and the system of methods and techniques includes the phenomenological method, case study (comparative and single), process tracing and political personality profiling. In respect to the structure, after having contextualized and explained both the geopolitical studies' framework and the neoclassical geopolitics' model in PART I, the study described and analyzed Neo-Eurasianist ideology and strategic plan in PART II. Whereas PART III was devoted to describe and to analyze Brazilian School of Geopolitics and Meridionalism as ideology and strategic plan, PART IV focused on the...

Veselka, Radek ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Mlejnek, Josef (referee)
Two opposing tendencies of a vertical power structure in territories of Russian federations and Ukraine are being discussed in this theses. Based on adopted laws, the difference between constitutional standards and real-life practice are examined. According to this theses, we can see in Russia, especially since inauguration of president Putin, rising centralization tendencies, while Ukraine has gone through the process of decentralization reform since 2014. Simplified decision-making or concealed strategy? A test of Peter Coleman's Attractor Landscape Model using a comparative case study of the Israel-Palestine peace process 2007-2011.
Pepper, James Daniel ; Riegl, Martin (advisor) ; Romancov, Michael (referee)
Peter Coleman's (2011) Attractor Landscape Model (ALM) is a promising new framework for analysing and tackling intractable conflicts: conflicts that are highly destructive and highly resistant to conflict resolution. However, this thesis suggests that Coleman's ALM may be based on unreliable assumptions about homogenous group psychology. The aim is to test the reliability of the ALM from this perspective, and to suggest ways to successfully operationalise the ALM. The reliability of the ALM is tested using the case study of professional negotiators in the Israel- Palestine Track-I peace process 2007-2011. 12 interviews are conducted with negotiators from four key actors: the EU, the US, Israel and the Negotiation Support Unit (NSU). The transcripts of these interviews are coded for patterns of 'behaving' and 'thinking', and tested against five hypotheses derived from negotiation theories and the Conceptual Integrative Complexity Scoring Manual (Baker- Brown et al., 1992). It is concluded that the case study of the Israel-Palestine Track-I peace process 2007-2011 generally provides support for the attractor landscape model. However, negotiators from the NSU stood out as a significant exception. This suggests that future studies using the ALM should investigate potentially significant differences in...
The role of the United Russia in political system of the Russian Federation
Vondráčková, Dominika ; Příhoda, David (advisor) ; Romancov, Michael (referee)
With the beginning of new millennium the political atmosphere in Russia started to change significantly. The number of political parties dramatically decreased and in 2001 was formed soon to be strongest party - the United Russia. Since then the overall centralization of the system had started - it happened to be more difficult for smaller parties to reach the Duma mandates, media are influenced more than before and NGOs with certain political opinions are forbidden to operate. In this environment exists the United Russia - the party of power - not a platform for discussion, which a political party should be, but a tool of Kremlin, which reminds more a center of elites, power and means. In the beginning of the text are described competitive and non-competitive party systems. The current party system of Russia is there acknowledged as a party system with pragmatic- hegemonic party. Further the text follows the evolution and changes of the party system in Russia, the electoral reforms and overall changes since 1999 to the present. Then the ideology of Russia in international environment is discussed as well as the ideology of the United Russia. The text shows, that even though the United Russia declares an ideology, in reality it could be found only scarcely.
