Human impact on the holocene vegetation development in North Macedonia.
Koubský, Karel ; Abraham, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
This thesis aims to reconstruct the Holocene vegetation development in North Macedonia in relation to human activities; specifically, it focuses on the late Holocene period, when changes in land-use and settlement strategy were simultaneously taking place, which lead to an increased human pressure on the surrounding environment. To describe the vegetation development, a sedimentary profile from a small lake in the Pelister Mountains was chosen for analysis. A total of 25 samples were processed and analysed under a light microscope for the presence of pollen and non-pollen objects. Based on the results of pollen stratigraphy and radiocarbon dating, it was confirmed that the vegetation record covers the entire Holocene period. The early Holocene is characterized by a gradual increase in forest vegetation and a decrease in steppe vegetation. In the middle Holocene, secondary anthropogenic indicators show up in higher numbers. The late Holocene is already showing signs of continuous human presence. Compared to the lowlands, the mountain record shows a rather discontinuous presence of primary indicators, which nevertheless appear after the 5th millennium before present. High percentages of secondary indicators indicate continuous human influence in the mountains. Overall, it has been confirmed that...
Landscape-scale changes in central Europe around the Pleistocene-Holocene transition and the Anthropocene
Prach, Jindřich ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Kuosmanen, Niina Irina (referee) ; Roleček, Jan (referee)
This thesis investigates the dynamics of the central European landscape. Four case studies, exploring two key periods of environmental transformation: Late Glacial and the Anthropocene, are included. All case studies are connected by the spatial scale of interest: the landscape scale. This scale is targeted not only by the spatial extent of the sampling, but by the essence of the issues investigated, as broadly described in the introduction. The studies use disparate methods and different contexts, which helps to approach such a complex phenomenon - the landscape and its formation. The included studies are dealing with the Last Glacial landscape and vegetation by (1) comparing pollen records using modern analogues (here from Yakutia) and argues that the change at the Late Glacial/Holocene transition may not have been as great as previously thought, because at least somewhere forests may had existed during the Last Glacial being supported by permafrost melting. A follow-up study (2) explores how permafrost melting, i.e., thermokarst processes, generated an entire lake landscape whose remnants unexpectedly largely persist in the Třeboň region (southern Czech Republic) to recent times. This is followed by (3) the use of a detailed palaeoenvironmental record of the discovered lakes and their contexts...
Adversus nationes by Arnobius of Sicca and Octavius by Minucius Felix
Říhová, Ladislava ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (advisor) ; Šafin, Ján (referee) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
African teacher of rhetoric Arnobius of Sicca, who lived at the turn of the 3rd and 4th century, is one of the less known Christian authors. He is the author of Christian apology written in Latin called Adversus nationes. His statement attracted particular interest of philologists and historians of antiquity, because it contains large amounts of mythological material. The aim of this work is to introduce Arnobius not only as a crucial source of pagan theology, but also as an important Christian witness of the complicated religious - political situation of Christianity in the time before the Milan Edict, particularly at the time of Diocletian's persecution of Christians. Given the need to work with original texts includes this thesis also the first Czech translation of Arnobiusʼ apology.
Comparison of criminal behaviour development in the CR with trends in rich countries
Pokorný, Petr ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Polák, Petr (referee)
This bachelor thesis explores crime development in rich countries and compares it with crime development in the Czech Republic. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to statistically verify thoughts discussed in The Economist magazine about the downward trend in crime development in rich countries. In the first part of the thesis, terms related to crime are defined. Subsequently, rich countries are deter- mined. In the second part, the crime development in the rich countries is explored through a fixed effect model estimation of panel data. In the third part, crime de- velopment in the Czech Republic is analyzed by using a simple regression model and an autoregressive model. In the final part of the bachelor thesis, an econometric model analyzes factors that generally affect crime, especially wealth of countries. The arguments about the downward trend in crime development in rich countries are supported by statistical examination. 1
References to the Book of Leviticus in the Gospel of Matthew
Landovská, Eliška ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
This thesis called "References to the Book of Leviticus in the Gospel of Matthew", deals with a problem, which has not been adressed as such so far. In the Gospel of Matthew about twenty allusions to the Book of Leviticus can befound, as suggested in the critical edition of the New Testament, edited by Nestle-Alland. In Matthew, some of the allusions are owershadowed by quotations from the books of Exodus or Deuteronomy, which are far more frequently used. Other allusions are unique, as seen in the example of the story of the cleansed lepper. Allusions and echoes are dealt with, rather than direct quotations. In the introduction, the problem of the Old Testament quotations is introduced, followed by the first chapter describing telegraphically all the references to Leviticus in the Sermon on the mount. The author starts with the text from Leviticus, comparing Greek and Hebrew text. Exegesis of this scripture is followed by translation of the relevant scripture form Matthew, comparison of the text with other synoptics, exegesis and exposition of the relation between the two texts. The references to the book of Leviticus seem to enable us better understanding of some situations presented in the gospel. Majority of the allusions explain the cultural background. They explain to nowadays reader, whose...
Aspects of the Pastoral Care in the Pauline Congregations
Ravasz, Hajnalka ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Theißen, Gerd (referee) ; Luz, Ulrich (referee)
The thesis "Aspects of the Pastoral Care in the Pauline Congregations" presents some aspects of the praxis of pastoral care in the graeco-roman Antiquity and in the New Testament how it is principally revealed in the 1st Thessalonians. The main chapters of the thesis expose the chosen aspects of pastoral care like the function of imitation and examples, the role of the pastor in the pastoral act, the process of comforting or the caring congregations. But the research does not end with the comparison of the antic psychologic tradition with the Pauline practise; at least one modern social-psychological method is introduced in every chapter and they are used as a help for a different and sometimes maybe astonishing re-reading of the well-known Bible texts. The social connections analyzing social psychology helps the New Testament finding new methods and language to express the caring interactions between Paul and his congregations. This interdisciplinary thesis aims after binding the biblical texts with their contemporary context and the modern social psychology to reach a helping hand for the practical theology, mainly for pastoral care drawing the conclusion from the exegesis for our eneryday practise. The First and the Last in Luke's Gospel
Leštinová, Lucie ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
On the following pages we are dealt with, " first and last" in the Gospel of Luke. Although it is a concrete definition of the topic, we will perceive a little more broadly than it seems at first glance. The theme of the first and the last is very closely related to the general theme of promotion and humiliation, namely promotion of humiliated and humiliation of promoted. John's Gospel and History
Plíšek, Jonáš ; Roskovec, Jan (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
THE PURPOSE OF MY THESIS IS TO EXPLORE HOW MUCH THE JOHN'S GOSPEL - NAMELY THE JESUS PRESENTED BY IT - IS HISTORICALLY RELIABLE ACCORDING TO THE CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP. METHODICALLY, I BASE MY INQUIRY ON COMPARISON WITH THE SYNOPTICS, ON CONFRONTATION WITH THE COMMENTARIES AND SELECTED RELEVANT SCHOLARLY STUDIES. I SEEK TO DEMONSTRATE THAT - CONCERNING THE QUESTION OF HISTORICAL RELIABILITY - JOHN'S GOSPEL IS IN A BETTER POSITION THAN MANY MIGHT THINK. OF COURSE, NOT THE GOSPEL AS A WHOLE. BUT DETAILS SPREAD ALL THROUGH THE GOSPEL SEEMINGLY UNIMPORTANT AT THE FIRST SIGHT POINT OUT TO A SURPRISINGLY PRECISE EVANGELIST'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPOGRAPHICAL AND SOCIAL DETAILS OF JERUSALEM BEFORE THE DESTRUCTION OF THE SECOND TEMPLE. THE FIRST TWO CHAPTERS OF THE PAPER ARE CONCERNED WITH THE HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF THIS QUESTION, FROM THE FIRST CENTURIES UNTIL TODAY, AND WITH THE HERMENEUTICAL DIFFICULTIES NECESSARILY ACCOMPANYING SUCH A TASK. THE THIRD CHAPTER IS THEN DEDICATED TO THE EXEGESIS OF SELECTED PASSAGES OF JOHN'S GOSPEL - MOSTLY FROM THE PASSION NARRATIVE-, WHERE I SEARCH FOR THE HIDDEN HISTORY.
Sibylline Oracles I-II and VI-VIII, Questions of Bartholomew, New Testament Apocrypha in Czech Translation.
Dus, Jan A. ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee) ; Radová, Irena (referee)
