OK 1934-38: The Prague Intermezzo of Oskar Kokoschka The bachelor's thesis deals with the Kokoschka's Prague period between years 1934-38. First, it is focused on the cultural and political background of 1930's in Europe and on artist's life and work in Prague. Subsequently, it considers the influence of notable Czech figures on Kokoschka's activity. Kokoschka fled Austria for Prague in 1934 as a 48-year-old man. There his name was adopted by the Oskar Kokoschka-Bund, founded by other expatriate artist, although he declined otherwise to participate. The landscapes that he painted in Prague belong to the greatest of his work. He also met Olda Palkovská there, who was later to become his wife, and painted the portrait of Thomas G. Masaryk, President of Czechoslovakia (1935-36). His work was showed in the Degenerate Art Exhibition in Munich in 1937 and more than four hundred of his works were therefore removed from German museums. In response, he painted his self portrait as a degenerated artist. A year later the artist immigrated to London, where allegorical subject matter with political thematic overtones began to inform his pictures. In 1953 he founded his summer academy "School of Seeing" at the castle of Hohensalzburg, which he managed as a director until 1963. His thinking was deeply influenced...

Obrazová, Martina ; Rakušanová, Marie (advisor) ; Pech, Milan (referee)
ANGLICKÉ RESUMÉ Josef Holub. Life and Work. The theme of this Bachelor Thesis rises from my interest in the landscape painting and in the art of the turn of 19th and 20th centuries. Nowadays, the art historicians dwell on the students of Julius Mařák, but Josef Holub still stays in the shadow of his more famous schoolmates. That is why I have decided to refer to the life and work of this painter. The part of my Bachelor Thesis will be the catalogue of Josef Holub's works in the inheritance of Městské muzeum in Kralupy nad Vltavou. Josef Holub was born in 1870 in Slaný and the local landscape was often theme ( subject ) of his paintings. Due to the financial problems of his family he could not start immediately his studies at Academy of Art in Prague, so first he had been trained as decorator. He entered the Academy of Art not before 1889/90. He has been studying by professor Julius Mařák until 1894, but already in the year 1893 he received the graduating certificate and he stayed at Academy until 1896. In the same year he received Hlávka's scholarship, which he used for his journey to Dalmácie (Dalmatia) and Černá Hora (Black Mountain). During his studies he has been drawing attention to himself at many Prague exhibitions. He has exhibited his works on shows of Krasoumná jednota pro Čechy v Praze, Umělecká...

PECH, Milan
This thesis examines a psycho-sociological context of Otto Gutfreund´s sculptures and drawings. In the first stage author surveys memoirs of sculptor´s contemporaries, his family history and his early childhood development to find out Gutfreund´s psychological dispositions and dymanics of his personality. After that he deals with sculptor´s artistic style development in connection to his living conditions. He focuses on Gutfreund´s artistic expression and its changes. Autor shows that sculptor´s turn to Cubism (1910-1911), to Social Civilism (1919-1926) and his return to cubistic creative principles are not only determined by art-historical context but psycho-sociological context, as well.
