Jonášová, Helena ; Trampota, Tomáš (advisor) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
This rigorous thesis develops and widens the author's diploma thesis, which was defended, under the title "Analysis of visual communication. The case of contemporary theatre posters" at the Faculty of Social Sciences in June 2014, with excellent assessment. The previous aim of the diploma thesis was to describe and define basic principles of visual communication from the point of view of mass communication theory and classical media theory and to attempt to create a basic synthesis of these branches. The rigorous thesis elaborates the outputs of the research further, and analyzes them in relation to social and communication networks. The visual communication is currently dominating form of communication not only in advertising and marketing, but also from the point of purely artistic expressing, which nowadays abandons classical conservative techniques and searches for new ways of expressions. The previous focus of the diploma thesis on European theatre poster, which is a factual synthesis of those trends, allowed an adequately assessment the relevance of media theory in relation to visual communication as a way of addressing recipients with the information given in a form of an image. The topic of European poster has been chosen to widely demonstrate the general acceptance of visual communication...

Distancing effects in productions of Komedie Theatre
Havelková, Pavla ; Augustová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to analyze distancing effects in productions of the Komedie Theatre. As a subject of analysis I only chose such plays of the Komedie Theatre that I consider highly representative in their usage of distancing effects and principles, reason of which is the chosen analytical method is relatively detailed and the extent of the thesis is limited. The plays chosen are Kanibalové, Kvartet and Sportštyk. I separately analyzed each drama, then I analyzed its production. Each play is addressed in a separate chapter. In these chapters I focused especially on the possibilities of using distancing effects that are hinted at in the text by the author. In the chapters dedicated to production I analyzed the way how the directors worked with distancing effects utilized by the authors and how they developed and enriched them. The objective of my analysis was to identify the distancing effects used in plays of the Comedy Theatre and also to define their role in context of the overall poetry of the Komedie Theatre.

The Alfred Jarry Pantomime
Plicková, Karolina ; Christov, Petr (advisor) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to employ a theatrological approach to the work of one of the most original and influential Czech pantomime troupes of all time, entitled Pantomima Alfreda Jarryho (the Alfred Jarry Pantomime, AJP). The company was established in 1966 in Prague by two young mime artists Boris Hybner and Ctibor Turba and existed as late as the political liquidation of the troupe in 1972 that came due to the process of the so-called normalization period in the former Czechoslovakia. The thesis consists of four major parts that are divided into several subsections. The first part deals with the historical contexts of the art of mime, both international and domestic. The AJP troupe represents the second generation of Czech pantomime that refused the style of the so-called modern pantomime expressed in the international context by Marcel Marceau and in the Czech context by Ladislav Fialka at the Theatre Na zábradlí (Theatre on the Balustrade). Since there is no monograph strictly based on this theatre, although it played a major role among the newly established small theatres in the sixties (and had an important influence on the poetics of the AJP troupe), we briefly introduce the poetics of both the pantomime company led by Fialka and the drama company led by the director Jan Grossman,...
Review Czech Thalia
Sýbová, Kristýna ; Topolová, Barbara (advisor) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
This bachelor thesis is dealing with periodical Czech Thalia. We are introduced into the importance of Czech Thalia from years 1867 - 1871 for contemporary theatre and culture through the presentation and describing the content of the periodical. This periodical is the background for analysis of Czech Thalia, which was published in 1887 - 1892. The content of this periodical is decribed as well, focusing on the analysis of theoretical and historical articles. There is realized the comparision between both of Czech Thalia by reason of uniqueness of each periodical individually in contemporary society, and the aiming of periodicals is also formulated. In the part about the second Czech Thalia, the relationship with the realism and the amount of participating on the realistic programme is accentuated. The conclusion is finding the main importance of Czech Thalia in her reflection of modern influences on the theatre, nevertheless not as a tool of the realism. The thesis is extended of a supplement which consists of the bibliography of all theoretical, critical and historical articles from the second Czech Thalia.
Baroque acting technique
Ebenová, Marta ; Topolová, Barbara (advisor) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
Based on professional literature and historical sources (essays, pictorial material, musical scores but also statements of contemporary artists engaged in historical interpretation), the thesis determines and characterizes the basics of baroque acting technique. The first part deals with general principles (actor- audience relationship, handling of energy, emotional involvement of an actor etc. The other part describes individual rules of baroque declamation, gestures, facial expression and stage movement. The study has revealed a number of analogies between the baroque acting technique and that of other genres (most importantly Japanese kabuki theatre) but also with results of contemporary psychological researches in the area of body language. Thanks to these revelations, we were able to clarify some seemingly groundless rules and to enrich the explanation of acting principles with additional valuable information.
