The Precautionary Principle and Risk-Management in Environmental Decision-Making

Alaska, more than any other state in the US, has a history of natural resource dependency that is unequalled in any other state. This dependency on raw natural resources as the main driver for the economy has persisted to current times. In addition to the economic importance of natural resources, usage of the ecosystem and the benefits it provides are an important part of the survival, culture and economic well-being of the rural population. Bristol Bay has a special role in Alaska based on its abundance of salmon, which bring tourists and industry to the region and provide its main source of income. Recently, the mining industry has taken an interest in the region and its numerous natural resources. Concern has been expressed by both the existing fishing and tourism industries as well as the general population of the region as to the effects that mining activities would have on the region's ecosystem and fish and wildlife populations on which they are dependant. The current permitting system has been criticized for being too lenient and biased in favor of the mining companies. This has been attributed to changes in the competences assigned to different agencies from 2002-2005. Company Marketing Strategy

The bachelor’s thesis focuses on the marketing strategy for Confectionery, café U Anděla, which is situated in Strážnice. In the introductory chapter of the theoretical part, several terms related to marketing are defined. In the second part, I analysed the current situation in the confectionery and carried out research into the expectations of customers by using a questionnaire. From the results, I suggested improvements in the sectors that turned out to be insufficient.

Possible future developments of South Sudan

This bachelor thesis provides information about the possible scenarios of future development in the Southern Sudan, focusing on democratization. The thesis is divided into 4 parts. The first chapter discuss democracy in Sub-Saharan Africa in general, the definition of democracy and democratization process and the factors that enable the democratization or not. The second part is dedicated to the theory of failed states and its indicators. The third chapter deals with the history of Sudan, which is relevant for the development of South Sudan and for the evaluation of possible developments. The accent here is put on the causes of civil wars in Sudan and its consequences, the analysis of internal and external participants of developments in Southern Sudan and the formation of Republic of South Sudan and the immediately following events. On these basis, the fourth chapter concentrates on possible future developments of South Sudan.

Failed states - case study Yemen

The submitted diploma thesis deals with failed states and tries to find out whether the Republic of Yemen can be classified as a failed state. First of all, the diploma thesis defines the term state and its functions, and then focuses on the terminology of weak statehood that has come into existence in the international politics. The thesis concentrates on the Failed States Index and analyzes its social, political and economic indicators. The theory is later applied on the case of Republic of Yemen.
