History and Constructional Development of the St. Pancras Church in Prague
Katrák, Ondřej ; Kubín, Petr (advisor) ; Pátková, Hana (referee)
History and building development of the St. Pancras church in Prague The revealation of the bottom of the St. Pancras Romanesque rotunda during the development of the Prague underground Line C meant completely a new chapter for this building. This "small-town church" became the main theme for many scholars and explorers, because its creation is absolutely related to the rise of Vyšehrad, an important center of the Czech state at the turn of the 11th and 12th century, and the St. Pancras patronage undoubtly refers to the meaning of Vyšehrad being built as Czech Rome. Even thought Czech princes moved back to the Prague Castle and the St. Pancras changed just to a suburbian church, it became a part of some important events in Czech history, whether we mean the battle in 1420 or the siege of Swedish armies during 1648. St. Pancras, rotunda, church, Vysehrad, Czech Rome.
The canonization of Edward the Confessor
Kovaříková, Šárka ; Kubín, Petr (advisor) ; Pátková, Hana (referee)
The Canonization of Edward the Confessor Edward the Confessor was the last Anglo-Saxon king from the house of Wessex. He ruled in England from 1042 to 1066. He spent his younghood in exile in Normandy. During his reign England joined peace and prosperity. There was a struggle in the court between so called French side (Edward's friends from continent) and Anglo-Danish side (great Earls). The biggest question was succession after Edward, because his marriage with Edith, daughter of Godwin, Earl of Wessex, was childless. William the Conqueror claimed and won the throne after battle of Hastings in 1066. Immediately after his death, Edward was venerated among monks of Westminster Abbey. They tried to canonize them. The first attepmt in 1138 which was work of prior Osbert de Clare was unsuccessful, mostly because of uncertain situation in England. The second attempt in 1161 succeeded. It was more supported by clergy and king as well. Thank to the difficult international situation Pope was helpful to request. In 1163 Edward was ceremonially translated to a new shrine in Westminster Abbey. Canonization is legal action, after which is a person added to a list of saints and people give him a proper veneration. The history of this process goes back to early Christian times; since 12th century it is Pope who canonize...
Book of Henrykow as a source
Petrášek, Jiří ; Pátková, Hana (referee) ; Bláhová, Marie (advisor)
Hereby presented diploma paper is concentrating primarily on the Book Of Henryków (BOH), the outcome of Cistercian literature as produced in Silesia at the break of 13th and 14th century. I worked with Roman Grodecki edition, published in 1991. At the beginning I resumed published editions and source related literature. W orks containing some notions on BOH but not dealing with it further were left behind. Here I also made few remarks on topics I did not work with later on, as clashes between Polish, German and Roman/German canon law and the case of the oldest Polish-written sentence. I did not comment largely literature exploited for the purpose of this paper. In first part I reviewed general political and cultural situation in the 12th, 13th and the beginning of 14th century Silesia, and introduced the moment when Grey Monks entered this area. Then I summarized contemporary Cistercian writing, where those produced in communities of Lubi'l_z, Trzebnica, Henryków and Kamienec are the most significant. These were mainly obituaries, annals, chronicles, Bishop' s lists, legends and Boo k Of Henrykow itself. With the help of previous researches and manuscript fascimile, I analyzed handwriting, authors, organization of BOH manuscript and reasons of manuscripťs creation. Using the example of Bobolice village, I...
Epigraphic fund of Jablonecko
V celém bývalém okrese převažovaly až do...
Double monasteries in Premonstratensian rules
Zemanová, Hana ; Kubín, Petr (advisor) ; Pátková, Hana (referee)
Double monasteries in Premonstratension Order. This work on the double monasteries in Premonstratensian Order describes the chronological development of these monasteries, from their inception until 12th century, and not just in the East but also in the West. Double monasteries arose spontaneously especially in the early church. Their formation and gradual disappearance influenced not only religious but also social and political situation in the wider area. The most famous double monasteries were created in the Premonstratensian Order during the 12th century and quickly spread from France to neighboring countries, because the Holy Norbert was a supporter of such grouping. But later had to be given the coexistence of both sexes an order or some rules. It was therefore decided to separate the double monasteries not only in a distance but also legally. During the schism, only the abbots of the order from south parts (south of the Rhine) attended the General Chapters that were held in Prémontré and it was difficult to enforce the separation of communities and therefore the double monasteries in the territory of present-day Germany, survived longer than in France. This illustrated the foundation of a double monastery called Weissenau in 1145 and consecutive movement of nurses to a nearby Meisenthal in...
The testaments of New Town burghers in the late middle ages
Jíšová, Kateřina ; Šmahel, František (advisor) ; Doležalová, Eva (referee) ; Pátková, Hana (referee)
Testaments are unique resource in the search for an understanding of the everyday lives of the residents of medieval towns. Through this medium it is possible to investigate religiosity, to analyse the social stratification of the population, and to map property relationships, family life or the relationship of individuals to death. In this country they have survived in a number of towns, including Český Brod, Plzeň (Pilsen), Kutná Hora, Litomyšl, Soběslav and Kadaň. The greatest number of testaments are found in Prague, where collections survive in the municipal rolls, along with inventories of effects in later periods, for almost the entire period from the 15th through to the 19th centuries. The oldest Czech testaments are in the memorial books of the Prague Old Town (MS 986, Liber vetustissimus) and date to the period beginning 1360 and ending 1419. A collection of some 80 testaments from the years 1428-1441 is to be found in a memorial tome (MS 992) of the Prague Old Town, while testaments from the Lesser Town (Malá Strana) survive in the council manual. An ever more designated agenda required the separation of books intended for the administration of effects from memorial or markets books. The New Town's Prague testaments are the most complete collection of Late Medieval testaments found within the...
The epigraphic heritage in the Kladno and Slaný areas until year 1800
The St. Gall's church in Zbraslav
Smítková, Alena ; Pátková, Hana (referee) ; Bláhová, Marie (advisor)
The first mention about this little church is from 1115. In this time in Zbraslav stood some chapel. We don't know who and why built this chapel, but we know, that it was in time ofthe colonisation in Brdy mountain. The church had the lord's tribune and from this can we deduce, that near the church stood the lord' s yard. After this had Zbraslav more holders from church and nobility. In the year 1291 was established the monastery Aula Regia of cisterciens ordinary. Since this time was this little church for simple population and rich people went to the monastery church. More informations about this little church are in Libri confirmationum and lil others historical sources. The most interesting thing in this church is an old altar from wood. His author is mentioned as A. T. or A. P. may be too A. K. The altar was dated about year 1550. N ow is the altar in the other church in Zbraslav. In 1660 was the church rebuilded to the baroque look. And this face has the church to this time. There were two bells in church, but they were damned in 20th century. In the church are parts of romance mural paintings. Arround the church placed the churchyard. It has an old and a new part. Now is this like a churchyard' s church and is employded for cultural actions.
