Keprt, Vratislav ; Kubík, Viktor (advisor) ; Ottová, Michaela (referee)
Keprt_abstrakt v AJ.txt Anglická anotace Medieval wall paintings in the St. Clement Church at Levý Hradec Wall paintings in the St. Clement Church at Levý Hradec depict a cycle with motives from the lives of Christ and Virgin Mary portrayed in two stripes, located at the walls of the pentagonal presbytery, each approximately 170 cm high. The iconographic programme decorating the choir in the severies is enriched by depictions of the Early Church Fathers, Old Testament prophets, the evangelists, and angels carrying Arma Christi. In the context of Bohemian monumental painting, the wall paintings at Levý Hradec are important because they complement and enlighten our knowledge of artistic development of the period between the 1370s and 1400. This thesis uses the methods of stylistic and iconographic analysis to place the studied paintings into the context of the artwork of the given period. After reviewing existing literature and researching relevant analogies to individual motives and scenes, the thesis outlines the importance of the paintings against the background of other works created in the Bohemian and central European area in the given period. Towards the end of the 14th century, the right of patronage to the St. Clement Church belonged to the Benedictine convent to the St. George Church at Prague...
Black Madonnas - Iconography and Worship
Hřebíčková, Jana ; Royt, Jan (advisor) ; Ottová, Michaela (referee)
Anotation Black Madonnas are a very specific iconographic type, which origin is not clear. They are statues or pictures of Virgin Mary, who often holds child Christ in her hands and both figures or only Mary herself have black or dark complexion. In the course of the time it was discovered that some of these Madonnas darkened secondarily thanks to the chemical changes of the carnation or the smoke of candles. Some of them had dark complexion from the beginning. In the 19. and 20. centuries different research approaches led to many theories, which try to explain the origin and the significance of these black Madonnas. Nowadays there exist several fundamental theories explaining, which iconographic influences would support the development of this image of Virgin Mary and also refer to its possible meaning. The iconography of Black madonnas is closely connected to their veneration. However the period sources illustrate that the practice directed at Black Madonnas as a particular image of Virgin Mary developed as late as the post reformation period. Majority of the black Madonnas was as the other venerated Madonnas dressed, crowned and enthroned. The personality of Master of the Litoměřice Altar and his hypotetical activity in St. Wenceslas Chapel in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague
Haragová, Vladěna ; Ottová, Michaela (advisor) ; Royt, Jan (referee)
The personality of Master of the Litoměřice Altarpiece and his hypothetical activity in St. Wenceslas Chapel in St. Vitus' Cathedral in Prague The master of the Litoměřice Altarpiece is the most significant figure in the plastic and graphic art of Jagellon Bohemia in the period of late Gothic. The election of Vladislav Jagello, who became King of Bohemia in 1471, the Bohemia state was added to their dynasty holdings. After death of his political enemy Matthias Corvinus, King of Hungary, Vladislav set up his permanent residence in Buda and on various occasions paid only shorter or longer visits to Prague. His son Louis also resided permanently in Buda and came to the Bohemian metropolis only once. For these reasons is very difficult question about king as a donator. Numerous art historical literature dealing with this artist has offered two completely different hypotheses, some scholars believe in Czech origin artist who was strongly influenced by the so-called Danube school, others contented that the Master of the Litoměřice Altarpiece was born and trained abroad. The starting point for any summary of the oeuvre of this anonymous artist is two key monuments of painting that date from the first decade of the 16th century and which survived in Bohemia. The first of these is a large cycle of murals in St....

Louženská, Monika ; Kubík, Viktor (advisor) ; Ottová, Michaela (referee)
Kopie - Bakalářská práce_Louženská Monika.txt ABSTRACT The romanesque rotunda of the St. Catherine in Znojmo is one of the most important monument in Czech Republic and Central Europe. From 1962 it's registered as National Cultural Monument. Its verticalism and linearism is related to the European expression of Byzantine - like linear style from around 1100 A.D. Paintings with closest relations to this style were found in Salzburg and Prüfening near Regensburg in second third of the 12th century. The decoration of the rotunda can be divided into two parts. The first is ecclesiastical, the second secular. In the ecclesiastical part belongs christological cycle in the nave of the rotunda (Annunciation of Our Lady, Visitation, Nativity and Annunciation of Shepherds in combination with Joseph's Dream, Adoration of the Magi, Killing of the Innocents and Flight to Egypt), paintings in apse (Majestas Domini in Deesis and figures of 12 apostels in arches) and in cupola (the quartet of Cherubs and...

Špinková, Tereza ; Ottová, Michaela (advisor) ; Nespěšná Hamsíková, Magdaléna (referee)
English Summary: Rajhrad Altarpiece Rajhrad Altarpiece was made by bohemian painter in the first half of the fifteen century. To this day, it has been preserved six panels - two of them have been created for the width and they deal with the theme of Crucifixion and Christ Carrying the Cross. Other panels are composed for the height and they talked about the Last Supper, Prayer on the Mount of Olives and Resurrection. The last painting concerns about the Finding and Verification of Saint Cross. The altarpiece used to be dated around 1415-1430. Nowadays, Milena Bartlová, following the new archive material (which was discovered by Bohumil Zlámal, Ivo Hlobil a Kateřina Engstová), has changed the previous opinion. She moves the origin of the altarpiece towards the year 1452 and she suppose that the panels were originally intended for the church of St. Mauritz in Olomouc. Other explorers date these paintings by the year 1440. The author of Rajhrad Altarpiece came from the precedent style of painting which was characterized by the lyric moments, complicated draperies and far-away kind of faces. The artist completes this scheme by the interest in the action, structure of place and here and there, he is concerned in individual portraits. He is supposed to have seen this kind of "realistic" motives in the illuminated...
