The figure of Judas Iscariot through the prism of the media and the public in the 21st century in the context of state leaving exam and contemporary pop culture
Dostálová, Marie ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Novotný, David Jan (referee)
The following thesis, The Judas Iscariot figure, as seen by media and the public, in the 21st century in the context of the state graduation exam and contemporary pop culture, deals with the biblical figure who has betrayed Jesus Christ. The apostle, whose name has become a synonym for betrayal, was mentioned in one of the questions of the didactical test regarding Czech language and literature in the state graduation exam in the Czech Republic in 2015. The pupils were supposed to recognize Judas with help of his cognomen and other hints. Many students have complained about this task, saying that it was too difficult, while others have claimed that the question was not related to the subject. The complaint became an issue frequented in all the significant media and heavily discussed in society. The first chapters of the thesis describe the official requirements for the state graduation exam and the study plans for secondary schools, where the Bible is listed. The following chapters highlight and discuss the media coverage of the affair in the printed and online media, as well as in the radio and TV stations. Additionally, the student's opinions about the issue are mentioned, together with the jokes related to the topic, reactions of the experts and internet users commenting the topic under the internet...
A Critical Responce to Egon Hostovsky's Post-war Works
Zbořil, Jakub ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Novotný, David Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis A Critical Response to Egon Hostovsky's Post-war Works aims to chart the response of Hostovsky's three postwar works (Cizinec hledá byt, The Lonely Rebels, The Missing). The chapters which aim to analyse the critical acclaim precedes the introduction of Hostovsky's pre- war life and work. The results of this thesis were achieved by the qualitative analysis of media reception as well as due to Hostovsky's autobiography Literární dobrodružství českého spisovatele v cizině and due to works of Czech literary critic Václav Papoušek. This thesis focus on the period from 1947 to the present because the author spent the most of his career in exile and his books were hence banned during the communist era in Czechoslovakia.
Satirical Image of Journalist in World Movie as a Reflection of Journalism
Hlavinka, Tadeáš ; Novotný, David Jan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
Bachelor paper Satirical Image of Journalist in World Movie as a Reflection of Journalism aims mainly to show how journalistic profession is depicted and criticised in satirical movies about journalism by analysing some of those movies. The first part of the paper generally summarizes history of journalism in film and talks about journalism film as a genre and about ambivalent cultural perception of journalists. Second part of the paper is about particular satirical movies. To expose this specific approach to journalism film, five movies were selected. These movies are analysed in detail. The paper briefly summarizes plots of these movies and links them to real people, events and other related phenomena. Furthermore, the paper analyses particular characters of journalists from selected (and related) movies, and compares these characters with common movie journalist stereotypes (as they were described by Brian McNair). Means of satire, used in selected movies, are also analysed, as are objects of satire. The paper also briefly describes reception of selected films (critical reception, financial outcome and reactions of offended personalities). The paper claims that satirical journalism movies are very critical towards journalism, even though they tend to criticise the consumers of media at the same...
The image of a journalist in public and politics - Erik Tabery
Liška, Petr ; Novotný, David Jan (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
The goal of this work is to analyse the depiction of Czech journalists in political and social area in changing historical, political and working conditions and assessing the current image of the editor in chief of Respekt, Erik Tabery. The theoretical part of the work analyzes the image and its relationship to stereotypisation and myth. The journalist occupation is introduced in its function in different societies and ownership structures. The image of journalist is explored in two different historical and political eras, in the totalitarian regimes and free society. Working with the stereotype (myth) about journalists is shown in the Karel Čapek's feuilletons. The practical part of the work focuses on creating the image of Erik Tabery and in the time-span of 10 months based on monitoring the outputs of media, which mention his person or in which he presents himself. In the framework of self-representation the thesis analyzes Tabery's outputs in articles, interviews, one public lecture, one television program and social networks Facebook and Twitter. Printed and electronic daily journals including blogs and also blogs with evaluating comments on social networks are used in describing popularity of the journalist. Final part of the work assesses Tabery's relationship to myth.

The publication serves for information about drilling in geology, it describes histrorical context of drilling in the distant past and its purpose but also the reader is introduced with the complex logic of drilling and knowledge of drilling techniques. Simultaneously this publication describes borehole together with all works which must be done before bigger projects of drilling begins. Because the publication isn't only about drilling technique and technology so basic informations about ground investigation methods are in this publication too. Key words: borehole, drill rig, drill bit, core, ground investigation
Landslides on transport constructions in Czech Republic
Zimola, Petr ; Novotný, Jan (advisor) ; Kudrna, Zdeněk (referee)
Landslides on transport constructions in Czech Republic Abstract Construction of transport constructions appear to look so difficult at first sight, but during the construction may occur problems in the form of landslides. The first part of work is dedicated to landslide characterisation, their causes and landslide remediation options. In the next part landslide knowledge is demonstrated on specific examples when damaged roads or railways on the terriory of the Czech republic since the early 20th century to the present.
The Heroes of D Day and Comparison of Their Destinies in Non-fiction Literature
Podlešák, Jindřich ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Novotný, David Jan (referee)
On sixth of June 2014 it will be 70 years from the moment, when the Allied armies made the biggest amphibious operation in history. Hardly anybody remembers that times now. But there are still those among us, who witnessed these historical moments personally. Their testimony about the time, where they come from, is for us today absolutely unique. We have a rare opportunity to talk to these people, and that one we must take. Connected with the anniversary of the D Day I set out to explore the view on the landings through the perspective of its veterans. Their memories are as a firsthand information for me the most important. For that I have decided to visit the celebrations personally and find these men. On the background of the historical consequences it is my target to obtain the testimony of the people, who experienced the military operations on the western front personally and were part of them. Together with that there are lots of books of non-fiction literature. The topic of Allied invasion to the Western Europe was processed many times and therefore there opens the possibility to compare the many different methods. With that we put into connection the experience of many members of the American and British armed forces, through which we get more complex view to this turning point of the World...
Influence of Climatic Factor for Landslides Formation
Olejár, Filip ; Novotný, Jan (advisor) ; Kudrna, Zdeněk (referee)
TITLE INFLUENCE OF CLIMATIC FACTOR FOR LANDSLIDES FORMATION ABSTRACT Slope movements are divided into several groups, either by speed, method of movement or by factors causing their formation. The climate conditions of different territories are one of the main reasons that significantly affect the formation of slope movements. The most important climate factor that causes slope movements is precipitation. However, the effect of freezing soil can also be included here because water in the soil changes its volume and after thawing changing geomechanical properties of the material. In this work, the impact of precipitation will be discussed as the most significant climatic factor that induces breaking of the slopes. Rainwater can either gradually infiltrate into the slope, or can infiltrate in the single event with a high amount of rainfall, until it reaches a critical stage during which the weight of watered zone together with pore pressure are being increased whereas the effective shear strength is being reduced. This causes subsequent disintegration of the slope and movement of material along the slip surface in case of sliding movements and along the native surface in case of debris flows. This work summarizes the available knowledge about the precipitation as a significant factor which affects the...
The Media Response to the Writers Convention 2015
Prunarová, Markéta ; Novotný, David Jan (advisor) ; Halada, Jan (referee)
This master's thesis deals with the media response to the Writers Convention that took place on 5 and 6 June 2015 in Prague. This convention was the first meeting of that name in the post-communist era. By naming it such, the organizers claimed a clear succession to conventions that happened before the year 1989 - especially to those in 1956 and 1967, which became important turning points not only culturally, but also politically. The 2015 Convention was organized by Writers Association - a professional organization established in November 2014. One of the reasons why it was founded was the conviction that the organisation named Writers Union, existing from 1989, is not functional anymore and does not sufficiently represent authors' interests. The first two chapters inquiry into the history of both of these organizations with the aim to identify problematic aspects in their operations. Through their media reflection, the history, activities and themes with which they deal are introduced. The aim is to show the broader issue of official writers associations as well as the relevance of the Writers Association as an organization representing the literary public. The third chapter presents the views on today's position of literature in society as it is reflected in media entries related to the...
Engineering geological conditions of new section D8 motorway around Řehlovice
Kuře, Tomáš ; Novotný, Jan (advisor) ; Florián, Tomáš (referee)
The goal of this master thesis was to compile a map of engineering geological condition in scale 1 : 5000 and an earth body construction - earth cut, to assess the engineering geological conditions of a new section D8 motorway construction around Řehlovice community. In the first part are presented the climatic, geomorphologic, geologic, hydrogeologic and geodynamic conditions of the mapped area itself and the wider vicinity. The Neogene volcanism influenced the geology and morphology of this area and caused frequent slope deformations in the mapped area. The second practical part of the thesis consists of the engineering geological map, laboratory tests and assessment of stability of the earth cut. In the compiled engineering geological map are presented some new findings: active landslides and assumed tectonic lines, both not previously mapped. Laboratory tests consisted of determination of natural moisture content, particle size, consistency limits and critical and residual parameters of the studied soil. Based on the outcomes of the tests, the soils can be considered as very specific with need to be manipulated properly. The SV Slope programme was used for the assessment of the stability of the earth cut, for calculations of the slope stability by limit equilibrium method and for simulations of...
