Current Trends in Quantitative Analysis of Geographical Data: Potentialities and Limitations of Spatial Data Analysis
Netrdová, Pavlína ; Čermák, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Ježek, Josef (referee) ; Horák, Jiří (referee)
of the Ph.D. Thesis Netrdová, P.: Current trends in quantitative analysis of geographical data: potentialities and limitations of spatial analysis The thesis is a contribution to the discussion about the potentialities of the quantitative approach in geography. It follows the current trends in quantitative analysis of geographical data, specifically spatial analysis, particularly from the perspective of changes in the concept and character of applied methods and their possible contribution in geographical research. Due to the research focus of the author, the entire work is focused primarily on the issue of using quantitative methods in terms of social geography. Attention is focused particularly on statistically spatial analyses, which are the most widely used techniques in social geography, with a wide range of possible applications. One of the goals of this work is to bring the current development in quantitative geography closer to the Czech academic community, and thus contribute to the increased awareness of the potentialities of the application of quantitative methods and spatial analyses in geographical research. Methodological problems in the analysis of spatial data, theoretical changes in the concept of quantitative analysis and also newly emerging quantitative methods have not so far...
Residential satisfaction of households in tenement houses in localities of Prague - the role of civic amenities
Bursa, Otakar ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Kubeš, Jan (referee)
Residential satisfaction belongs to important elements of human's satisfaction with life. It is created by the unique set of different components to which the accessibility and quality of civic amenities in a neighbourhood may also be included. Nevertheless, the importance of this factor used to be underestimated and the real connexion between residential satisfaction and the presence of civic amenities has not come out so far (Swindell, Kelly 2005). Therefore, the diploma thesis focuses on the qualitative- analytical research of residential satisfaction in two differently served Prague's localities with the aim to deepen the current knowledge of this issue. The results show that the presence of civic amenities in the neighbourhood has a significant effect in creating residential satisfaction which is comparable to the quality of housing and neighbourhood features. However, this relationship is partly influenced by the assigned importance of services' presence that especially varies according to the locality type (housing estate or suburban) and the position of household in a life cycle. Keywords: residential satisfaction, civic amenities, Prague, housing estate, suburb
Hot spot analysis of car thefts in Liberec
Kostka, Jiří ; Jíchová, Jana (advisor) ; Netrdová, Pavlína (referee)
My diploma thesis deals with distribution analysis of car thefts in the town of Liberec and will look at the options of situational crime prevention techniques. In my diploma thesis I have used the concept of hot spots which is able to show higher than average concentrations of car thefts in the study area. The database is relatively unique, provided by the regional police department in Liberec and contains the records of more than a thousand reported car thefts in Liberec between the years 2011-2014. The provided data contains GPS coordinates and thanks to them, it was possible, with relatively high accuracy, to identify hot spots of car thefts in Liberec. The identification of hot spots was possible as spatial statistics were used that enabled concrete calculations of kernel density, which made it possible to identify problem locations. In our chosen hot spots we then undertook our fieldwork, whose main goal was to evaluate the options of utilization strategy CPTED, so as to obtain preventive measures in problem locations. The output of this thesis include hot spot maps of car thefts 2011-2014 and also recommendations for preventive measures, which would be advisable to implement in chosen hot spots. Key words: car thefts, crime mapping, CPTED, hot spot, crime prevention, GIS
Liquid Biofuels in EU: Development of the Usage and Possible Relations
Valeš, Jiří ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Šatra, Jan (referee)
The thesis describes history, context and present situation of liquid biofuels usage in transport in the EU and with the help of basic statistical indicators researches the development of differences of the importance of biofuels in Member States. For these purposes a database of shares of biofuels in energy consumption in transport is created. If we understand the shares of biofuels as indicators of the intensity or the significance of biofuels usage, we can exemine its differences. With the help of Lorenz curve the development of rate of biofuels production inequality is described. Thesis is looking for possible relations to differencies in intensity of biofuels usage in Member states. With the main contribution of literature, there are several characteristics chosen and there are examined their relations to shares of biofuels with the help of Spearman correlation coeficient. In the closure of the thesis their possible influence on biofuels usage is discoussed. Key words: liquid biofuels, useage, share of biofuels, correlation
Spatiotemporal analysis of spreading of hepatitis in Czechia
Kalinová, Michaela ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Šídlo, Luděk (referee)
Viral hepatitis are diseases that affects the liver tissue and leads to serious health complications in the individual. Each of these viruses is specific in its transmission, severity and distribution both worldwide and regionally. This diploma thesis deals with the epidemiological situation of hepatitis A, B and C in Czechia from 2000 to 2019. The data come from the Information System of Infectious Diseases (ISIN) are anonymized and aggregated for districts. During the monitored period, a total of 36,311 cases of viral hepatitis A, B and C were registered. In this diploma thesis, three partial goals were set, theoretical, empirical and practical, on the basis of which the whole written work is structured. The theoretical goal is to describe the epidemiological situation and current knowledge about the occurrence and spread of viral hepatitis in the world, Europe and Czechia. The empirical goal is based on detailed data on the incidence of viral hepatitis A, B and C in Czechia at the district level to perform an analysis and describe in detail the development of these diseases in our territory. The practical goal of the work is to clearly present the data obtained andanalyzed in the form of an online map application. The work is a detailed search of foreign literature and based on available...
Quality of life in dimension of health: Czechia in regional perspective
Smetanová, Marie ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Dragomirecká, Eva (referee)
This thesis focuses on the quality of life in dimension of health at the regional level in the Czechia for the period 2010-2019. The main aim of this work is to describe and evaluate the spatial differentiation and spatio-temporal variability of the concept quality of life in dimension of health at the regional level of administrative districts of municipalities with extended powers. The assessment is based on objective indicators mapping the health status of the population, lifestyle, and the availability of primary health care. The theoretical part describes definitions quality of life, the characteristics of whole concept, health, its determinants, and inequalities that arise in health and can resonate at the regional level. This work also describes the types of prevention, as an effective tool in reducing health inequalities and the possible promotion of public health, in the form of improving health literacy. The analytical part is based on factor and cluster analysis and methods of spatial autocorrelation. In the Czech Republic, significant regional differentiation of quality of life in health dimension has been found. Furthermore, spatial patterns were discovered drawing attention to problematic and favourable areas within the observed concept. It turned out that the resulting quality of...
Spatiotemporal analysis of incidence of influenza epidemic in Czechia
Švábová, Lea ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Šídlo, Luděk (referee)
Influenza has accompanied humanity for centuries, and thousands of people have died from it for centuries. Every year, seasonal flu occurs regularly in the Czechia, caused by normally circulating flu viruses, in which minor changes occur. However, once every 10-20 years, a completely new subspecies of this virus will appear, which the human body has not yet encountered, as the virus undergoes major genetic changes. The aim of the work is to use statistical methods to reveal long-term patterns in the incidence of influenza in the Czechia from both temporal and regional point of view. The first partial goal is devoted to the regularity of the onset of the influenza epidemic in individual regions of the Czechia and the long-term development of the incidence of influenza, using the analysis of time series for the years 2007- 2018. The first result of the work was the finding that the flu season in the Czechia has a regular onset with a deviation of one week and the incidence trend is declining in the studied years. The second partial goal is to evaluate and visualize in map the form of regional differentiation in the incidence of influenza epidemic at the regional level in the Czechia. The analysis showed that influenza spreads in the Czechia quite randomly and global patterns of spread do not apply...
