Examples of good practice from social therapy workshops in creating and improving work habits and skills for clients with various types of disabilities
Koptyšová, Vendula ; Zajacová, Melanie (advisor) ; Novotná, Alena (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to find out how to prepare the client for the protected/open labour market in a social therapy workshop, how to motivate the client and his/her family to find a job in the protected/open labour market and how to integrate clients into the protected/open labour market. Qualitative research with a semi-structured interview method was used to find out the answers to the research questions. As part of the interviews for this thesis, examples of good practice from social therapy workshops are searched in creating and improving work habits and skills for clients with various types of disabilities. The research group consisted of 3 facilities of social therapy workshops (2 in the South Bohemian Region and 1 in Prague), from which a total of 6 communication partners participated in the interview (including 3 social workers and 3 workers in social services). Qualitative research made it possible to find out what workers perceive as essential in creating and improving work habits and skills. What they themselves perceive as their good practice, which could inspire other social services. Klíčová slova (anglicky): social therapy workshop, people with disabilities, motivation, work habits and skills, employment of people with disabilities
Critical social work in the praxis of social services working with homeless people
Goláň, Matěj ; Kodymová, Pavla (advisor) ; Novotná, Alena (referee)
(english) This thesis focuses on the use of the principles and methods of Critical Social Work in the practice of social workers in Czech context. It is a concept based on critical social science and social work approaches. It has been influenced mainly by Marxism, Feminism, Postmodernism or the Critical Theory perspective. It differs from traditional social work in its emphasis on the structural analysis of individual problems, its critique of social inequalities, various forms of domination or oppression, and its efforts to achieve social change. The causes of homelessness not only in the Czech Republic are directly related to the mechanism of global capitalism. Therefore the tradition of Critical Social Work provides an important framework and tools for social work, which is concerned with the solution of homelessness. The aim of my research is to find out how the principles of this concept are applied in Czech context in social work with homeless people. The research is based on thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews with social workers. Within the research, I reconstruct the participants' attitudes towards the causes and solutions to homelessness, the role of social work, the participation of service users or their values.

Spelling Variation Trends in Early English Printed Texts
Kupková, Tatiana ; Tichý, Ondřej (advisor) ; Novotná, Alena (referee)
The introduction of the printing press to England by William Caxton is often mentioned as the main cause of spelling standardisation in Early Modern English. This claim, however, seems to lack sufficient quantitative grounds and is often contradicted by research focusing on examining the consistency of spelling in texts printed by individual printers. This thesis investigates spelling variation trends in printed texts from the introduction of the printing press to England in 1476 to the end of seventeenth century by examining the degree of spelling variation in individual texts published in this period, as well as by measuring the overall degree of spelling variation in all texts printed by individual printers and comparing the results to the overall spelling trends. The material used for the analysis comes from the EarlyPrint database that contains both original and normalised versions of texts available from the Early English Books Online (EEBO) corpus. The levels of spelling variation are calculated using weighted entropy and the trends resulting from the calculations are compared. The results show a generally downward trend throughout the decades, although the decrease is not immediate. The findings of this thesis suggest that spelling variation started to decrease more rapidly in late...

Teaching syntax in council schools in the first half of the 20th century
