The Benefits and Pitfalls of Smart Meter Data Collection
Bazal, Stanislav ; Morávek, Jan (referee) ; Šedrlová, Magdalena (advisor)
In recent years, the demand for electricity has been increasing in households because various appliances and newest technologies have been used on an everyday basis. This raises concerns about the lack of electricity production around the globe. There is also a need for people to track their daily power usage in houses. The aim of this thesis is to explain the term smart metering and its benefits for both people that might use this technology in their households, and for companies. Smart meters allow people to track and control their energy consumption and eventually it might result in cheaper costs of the resources. What is more, the smart meters help consumers to know specific information about the consumption of electricity for appliances. In a global scale, the smart metering technology is used in smart grids which are more environmentally friendly power grids with higher efficiency and greater energy production. This work also focuses on the overall distribution of smart meters both in the Czech Republic and in the world. Nowadays, there are many projects in progress that are trying to switch from traditional power plants to smart grids with the intention to increase energy production and to become eco-friendly. The companies behind these projects have already published some of their researches which bring positive information about the energy production. The majority of these projects should be in progress until 2020 and some until 2025. Therefore, the final conclusion whether the smart metering technology will replace the traditional power grids and will be implemented in households cannot be drawn yet. This thesis also contains a practical part in which I create a user interface in Grafana, which is an open-source software for time series analytics. The user interface is created for a Raspberry Pi touch display which has a sensor connected to it that allows us to measure energy consumption of electricity meters. The measured values are then presented in useful graphs and gauges in Grafana, and also on the display itself.

Control Processes in Energy Systems with Alternative Power Sources
Morávek, Jan ; Kolcun, Michal (referee) ; Braciník, Peter (referee) ; Mastný, Petr (advisor)
The dissertation is an publication summary focused on the field of management processes in renewable energy systems, mathematical models and optimization possibilities for large and small scale photovoltaic systems. The articles were published in foreign impacted and reviewd journals and indexed proceedings of foreign and domestic conferences. The main results of the dissertation are the design, configuration and realization of the hybrid energy system with subsequent optimization. Using the data from the laboratory system, a mathematical model was compiled and subsequently validated in the Matlab/Simulink environment for a hybrid energy system with accumulation. The options for power production optimization with photovoltaic sources are based on both operational measurements (for commercial applications) and on the analysis of power flow controllers to optimize the~energy balance (for small scale applications in private buildings).
Operating parameters of the PV modules operating in hybrid energy systems - comparison
Jílek, Milan ; Morávek, Jan (referee) ; Mastný, Petr (advisor)
The master’s thesis deals with the principle of the photoelectric effect, the composition of the photovoltaic cell and different types of solar panels. Here is described the principle of converting wind energy into electricity. This master’s thesis describes reasons for using of the hybrid system. The next section describes the measurement system which is used to measure real operating statuses. The last section is an analysis of measured values and there are listed factors influencing the design of hybrid power system.

Influence of Wind Power Plants on Voltage Stability in Continental Europe
Herůfek, Radek ; Morávek, Jan (referee) ; Mastný, Petr (advisor)
Diplomová práce pojednává o výrobě elektrické energie větrnými elektrárnami a jejím vlivu na napěťovou stabilitu v synchronně propojené elektrizační soustavě kontinentální Evropy.

Concept of Charging Stations with off-grid Operation for Electric Bicycles
Leitman, Valentín ; Morávek, Jan (referee) ; Mastný, Petr (advisor)
This thesis deals with charging stations for electric bicycles powered by renewable energy. The aim of this work is to make a proposal for the hybrid charging stations for electric bicycles, which will work independently and, if necessary, will be backed up by a network. In this thesis is entered theoretical information on the issue of electric bicycles, the batteries, charging stations, the connectors of chargers, and photovoltaic systems. The practical part of this thesis is the basic design of the charging station and its design of the mathematical model of the individual parts in Simulink program, which are linked to the actual design of the charging station. In conclusion, this thesis deals with energy and economic analysis of the proposed system, therein included various methods of assessing investment recommendations of appropriate processing methods and overall assessment of the subject.
PV plant performance evaluation and optimization
Špinar, Marek ; Ptáček, Michal (referee) ; Morávek, Jan (advisor)
The Master´s thesis deals with issues of operational performance of two photovoltaic power plants. In the thesis is stated the history of photovoltaics, description of photovoltaic effect, used materials and production technology of the most used material in PV industry – Silicon. The basic parts and parameters of photovoltaic power plant are described. Thesis also solves, how could be done the first and periodically control due to relevant directives. The ways of diagnostics potentional failures, methods of measuring and the exam of monitoring system are stated. Practice part is focused on measuring and comparing operational performance of FVE Kurdějov and FVE Šakvice II. Operational performance was calculated from exported data for years 2014 and 2015. The thesis also contains measuring of each string connected to inventors, which are installed on the power plant. The result is an identification of strings with decreased operational performance. Based on that was created recommendations for optimalization and increase of the performance. The last part is software for simulation of photovoltaic power plant. This SW calculates potentional energy, which could be produced in a day with available data export. The calculation is defined by parameters, which are assigned.
