Spatial planning in the flood area of the river Dědina Abstract The delimitation of new development areas in flood area of river is one of the steps leading to the increase of flood risk. The aim of this master thesis is to find out whether and for what reasons is the delimitation of new development areas happening in territories which are at risk of flooding. At the same time, the thesis also focuses on the role of the mayor, especially his competencies related to the management of flood risks, arising from his function. Theoretical part is based on discussion about the development of cooperation between society and natural environment and also concept of Flood Risk Management, especially in relation of the flood risk with the process of urban planning and also with the organization of public administration. The analysis of spatial plans of the 5 municipalities, or more precisely 14 local districts, located on the Dědina river in Hradec Králové region uses the borders of floodplain defined by T. G. Masaryk Water Reasearch Institute and spatial plans of analysed municipalities. The results correspond to created graphical outputs and following research of textual parts of the spatial plans. Specific additional informations were obtained during structured interviews with five mayors of the studied...
Conception of PG issue in the contemporary Czech textbook for higher classes of secondary grammar schools and high schools: Status and suggestions to improve
Lukášová, Vendula ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Matoušková, Milada (referee)
In life each of us meets with textbook, although it does not always have to be quiality textbook. For evaluation the quality of textbooks used a rating system that can be undertaken. This work deals with the evaluation of physical geography textbooks for grammar schools. The goal is to determine what shape the concept of physical geography in textbooks and propose solutions to improve the situation. The work examines fourteen contemporary czech books used in teaching (textbooks, summaries for graduation). For ratings are used formal methods such educational research as measuring text difficulty or measuring didactic structure. The work is complemented by comparing the textbooks from different countries (India, USA) with Czech textbooks. Based on the results, it is possible to determine what textbook is suitable for teaching physical geography and how it would look perfect textbook. This work could bring geography teachers some advice on choosing textbooks. Key words: evaluation textbook, physical geography, textbook for grammar school
Assessment and proposal of the river restoration measures in urban and rural landscape
Tichý, Vojtěch ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Just, Tomáš (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with a proposal and evaluation of stream restoration measures as an effective tool to achieve good ecological status within the requirements of the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/ES. The main aim of this diploma thesis is to propose stream restoration measures at the Lišanský Brook based on evaluation of hydromorphological status, analysis of land-use changes and anthropogenic modification of the river basin, runoff and water quality assessment. Attention is also paid to the evaluation of the restoration measures in the selected localities on Botič and Litovický Brook. The main method used for the design and assessment of stream restoration measures is a field survey using the HEM methodology (Langhammer, 2014). Land-use analysis and stream adjustment analysis are based on available historical maps. Based on the results, Lišanský Brook is evaluated as moderately modified. The entire river basin is an intensively farmed landscape that has been affected by inappropriate anthropogenic modifications. To improve the current unsuitable stream conditions, it would be convenient to apply complete restoration measures on Lišanský Brook. Keywords: Stream, restoration, habitat, diversity, urban area, rural landscape
Retention capacity of flood plain and alternative flood protection in the Berounka River catchment.
Pergl, Michal ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Šípek, Václav (referee)
This thesis deals with the retention capacity of Berounka during the hydrological extremes. Flood prevention and flood condition are main subjects of this thesis. Two selected river areas of Berounka are analysed by the passive retention volume and by the transformation of the flood wave. The first area is situated on the lower course of Berounka near the Černošice, and this area is significantly anthropogenically influenced. The second area which has nature character is located on the middle course of Berounka near Křivoklát. This thesis contains an evaluation of the hydromorphological state of flow in both areas. The results of passive retention indicate negligible influence of the flood situations. 1D hydraulic model HEC-RAS displays the transformation of the flood wave. The results of the transformation are flow velocity and depths of the river valley in 100-year-old and 20-year-old flows. The transformation of the flood wave in the first area is on the minimum level and did not reach its potential retention capability. The culmination flow in the second area is reduced because of a geomorphological shape of the river. Moreover, the near natural flood protection precautions are proposed in this thesis. Mean flow velocity in 100-year floods could be reduced by 1 - 1,6 m.s-1 by forestation of...
Concentration of organic carbon in mountain and submountain watercourses
Špringerová, Pavla ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Havlíková, Petra (referee)
Bachelor thesis in its theoretical part is focused on the literature study of changes in concentrations of organic carbon in surface waters. The important part is finding the causes and consequences of these changes that could have a big impact on the entire global ecosystems. Uniform mechanisms controlling the process of increasing the concentration of organic carbon is not clearly defined yet, and therefore in the prediction of future consequences there exist disagreements. The practical part is devoted to research in experimental basins of the Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology (KFGG) of Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague in the Otava river basin (central part of Šumava and upper basin of Blanice). The research was based on field survey of the area, water sampling and measurements of basic physical-chemical parameters. Samples of water, taken in several campaigns, were then analyzed in laboratory for determination of organic carbon in each sampling profiles. Simultaneously the preparation and processing of other data of KFGG from experimental basins took a place, focusing especially on rainfall-runoff process. This data has been linked to the measured values of organic carbon. Research results show a strong dependence of organic carbon concentration on precipitations...
Extreme hydrological events in the Rolava River basin
Vlach, Vojtěch ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Blahušiaková, Andrea (referee)
6 Abstract This bachelor thesis deals with characteristics of extreme hydrological events in the Rolava river basin, which is located in the Ore Mountains in northwestern part of Czech Republic. The main aim of this study is a comparison of hydrological extremes in headwater catchments of Rolava River and Slatinný brook using data from the experimental monitoring of Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague and Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. The other object is a field survey of the impacts of hydrological extremes on fluvial-morphological dynamics of the streams, focused on river-bed forming processes. The opening part of this thesis deals with the physical geographical and hydrographical characteristics. The main part is devoted to the comparison of extreme events in the monitored catchments focusing on floods and drought. As a final result, it was found out that Slatinný brook has a greater tendency to extremity of peak discharges. Another part of the results is an analysis of the five-year flood seasonality change on upper course of the Rolava River in two periods 1967-1990 and 1991-2014. Key words: extreme events, flood, drought, fluvial dynamics, Rolava, Slatinný brook
An overview of physicogeographical regionalizations and an analysis of their representation in geography textbooks for secondary schools
Trtková, Jana ; Müller, Miloslav (advisor) ; Matoušková, Milada (referee)
An Overview of physicogeographical regionalisations and an analysis of their representation in Geography textbooks for secondary schools Abstract At present there is a large number of various regionalisations which concern the classification of the biosphere. The aim of the thesis is to develop an overview of the regionalisations of the physicogeographical sphere in the individual constituent spheres of physical geography. Firstly, the thesis provides an overview in terms of the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and pedosphere. The second part contains an analysis of secondary school Geography textbooks with respect to the occurrence of regionalisation of physicogeographical spheres. The analysis is based on 3 selected criteria. The first criterion is the frequency of occurrence of the very term itself and its more precise definition. The second criterion examines whether textbooks contain graphical demonstrations of the analysed terms in a map. The third criterion enquires whether the stated terms related to regionalisation are interconnected and put into perspective with other spheres. According to the results of the analysis, the highest-scoring textbook is "Geografie I., fyzickogeografická část (2012)". As for the representation of individual regionalisations in the physicogeographical...
Signs and impacts of hydrological drought in the Rakovnicky stream basin
Maroušková, Kateřina ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Hrdinka, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis deals with the signs and impacts of the hydrological drought in the Rakovnicky stream basin. Its aim is to evaluate trends of the selected hydroclimatic variables, to analyze drought periods and land cover changes as one of the factors influencing a runoff regime in the catchment. The main methods used for the long-term and seasonal trends are Man-Kendall test, IHA analysis, flow duration curves and mass curves. Dry periods are evaluated based on Streamflow drought index (SDI), Low Flow index and runoff Q95 exeedance. Land use changes are analyzed using historical maps and index of change. Basic indices of ecological stability are calculated. According to the results the frequency and intensity of the hydrological drought in the Rakovnicky stream basin is increasing. Although the amount of a rainfall is consistent, its distribution throughout the year is changing. In addition the constantly increasing temperature and land use changes cause a significant runoff decreasing. To improve a water retention capacity in the cathment, it would be convenient to apply adaptation measures in the river channels and floodplains. Key words: rainfall, runoff, drought, ecological status, Rakovnicky stream
