The environmental literacy testing of primary school pupils and lower grade of secondary school students

11 ABSTRACT The study reported in this paper was undertaken during autumn 2007 to assess the status of environmental education and awareness of eight-formers living in chosen localities of a different population range. The main objectives of the study were to determine the depth of pupils' knowledge and awareness of environmental issues and problems and their attitude to the environment. Is there a certain homogeneity of environmental awareness and attitudes among most schoolchildren at village, town and the capital? To test the veracity or otherwise of this widely held assumption. The study comprised a detailed questionnaire of a sample of 324 schoolchildren. The study was designed to assess the general characteristics, environmental knowledge, and behavioural pattern of the sample. The research finding in the study indicated that positons of pupils result mainly from all-society views and less reverberate thein own experiences. Informants cann`t context aglomerated enviromental problems with the others global ones yet and they perceive them separately. Only few informats are able to answer what a global problem means. The possibilities of integrated teaching of geography and musical appreciation

Thesis opens up the new topic - possibilities of integrated teaching of geography and musical appreciation. The issue is soluted in two parts. The first one is the research of literature and resources, and summarizes the theoretical assumptions for the teaching and past experience with integrated teaching. Specifically, this section deals with integrated education in general, integrated education in the Czech Republic in the field of sciences and aesthetics theory. It further process teaching methods suitable for integrated teaching of music appreciation and geography. The second part is a specific finding and suggesting the way of teaching it. From the perspective of the organization of teaching is this part divided into three sections: the integration of music education in the geography lessons, the integration of geography into music lessons and special integrated teaching geography and music appreciation. The evaluation of actual offer of ecological education centres for the purpose of geografical educadion

The thesis focuses on ecology education programmes that could be used to complement the syllabi of geography at schools. Such programmes are being organized by ecology education centres all around the country. In the thesis the reader will find out how do the centres work and a lot of information about their programmes. The aim of the thesis is to select geography oriented programmes from all those organized by individual education centres. Then the thesis evaluates the programmes from several viewpoints - the amount of geography oriented programmes offered, the age the programmes are designed for and their forms. In addition, the thesis evaluates individual counties. The practical result of this thesis is a list of geography oriented ecology education programmes sorted by county and topic. Incorporated into the thesis is a short work on Fair Trade held programmes and simulation games, which are very often offered by ecology education centres.
Evaluation of geographical textbooks in terms of environmental ethics

It is clear that the nature needs to be protected. But reasons for this need varies with individuals. Enviromental ethics deals with reasons why the nature should be protected and with attitude to the nature itself. In enviromental ethics there are several lines of thought. Here will be paid attention to theese five - theocentrism, athropocentrism, biocentrism, ecocentrism and lifeboat ethics. The aim of this study is to assess the level of representation of lines of though metioned above in Czech geographical textbooks. Considering that there are many of geographical textbooks, only textbooks designated for different types of high schools of publishers NČCGS, SPN, Fortuna and Fragment are evaluated.
Revitalisation of post-mining sites

This work introduces and compares some basic facts about recultivation and alternative methods of restoration, such is revitalization and natural succession. Recultivation is the way of quick revegetation, but it's expensive and in many cases contraproductive considering biodiversity of recultivated sites. Whereas, approaches based on principles of ecological restoration have many positives. They can create much valuable landscape structures and ecosystems than recultivation, and they enhance biodiversity and conservation of rare species.
The Education of Geography for Visually Impaired in Czechia

7 ABSTRACT This thesis deals with problems of geography education of visually impaired students. The ambition of the thesis is presentation of a new concept of geography education on special schools for visually impaired students. On the basis of research of geography education on Secondary School for Visually Impaired in Prague-Jinonice is processed the model that presents possibilities of modern educational methods and organizational forms of education of visually impaired students. The thesis consists of several topical chapters. Firstly there are described the problems of visually impaired generally, especially there are defined basic terms. Next chapter deals with education for visually impaired and with special schools for these students in the Czech Republic. Then there is a chapter which describes concretely geography education for these students; at first there is described geography education generally in Czech education system, then there are mentioned methods, organisational forms and special instruments of geography education and in conclusion there is presented conception of geography education with specialities characteristic for visually impaired.
