Jakl, Tomáš ; Beneš, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Hutečka, Jiří (referee) ; Mücke, Pavel (referee)
Title: Forgotten Apocalypse - The Czech Reflection of the Retreat of the German Heeresgruppe Mitte Author: Mgr. Tomáš Jakl Abstract: There are war campaigns that can be described simply, others more difficult to describe, and some cannot be reconstructed by a continuous narrative at all. The events in the Czech Lands in the first two weeks of May 1945 belong to the most difficult to describe. The fact that there was the largest of last German fighting groups of armies is well known. It is also commonly known that it was the Central Army Group commanded by Field Marshal Ferdinand Schörner. Significantly less is known that as a result of the outbreak of the Czech Uprising, this group of armies retreated across the rebellious territory to the demarcation line between the US and the Red Army The last desperate illusion of German soldiers was that they would contact the Americans and jointly drive the Russians out of Europe. Allied Commander-in-Chief in the West, General Dwight David Eisenhower, did not intend to do anything after the death of US President Roosevelt, which the Soviet dictator could even interpret as a similar development. Not only did he forbid General Patton from crossing the agreed line in advance with the Soviets, visually accommodating the retreating Germans, but the US troops also released...
Miners as a profession in the background of the Ostrava region.
Hybešová, Kateřina ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Krátká, Lenka (referee)
This thesis deals with the development of mining and mining colonies in the Ostrava region and also deals with the interpretation of interviews with miners performing their profession in the Ostrava-Karviná mining district between years 1950 and 1994. It focuses not only on the development of the environment and mining conditions in the Ostrava region, but also reasons and motivations for choosing a demanding and often life-threatening profession, as mining is. The thesis is produced using inductive method, where the processes at the individual level apply to wider groups. Such processing allows me to process interviews with witnesses alongside traditional written sources. The finding of the thesis is the fact that there are three main motives for the choosing of mining profession, which are family tradition, the possibility of not participating in two-year compulsory military training and last but not least, the above-standard wage. The thesis offers another view on how workers in socialist Czechoslovakia lived.

An important part of these returns was also the sophisticated plan that the Czechoslovak government in exile created. The second part examines the development of Czechoslovak - British relations as well as the work of diplomatic and cultural institutions which played a key role in providing foreign internships and foreign study programs. Through study programs, many students and researchers could visit Great Britain. The work of Czechoslovak exiles and their influence on the British public is also taken into account in this work. The final part examines the travel conditions in post - war Europe. It tries to examine these travel conditions from historical sources and mainly the written and audiovisual memories of the witnesses. The emphasis here is on the description of repatriation from the United Kingdom and on the restoration of civilian transport routes, which have recovered quite quickly after 1945.

Novotný, Ondřej ; Randák, Jan (advisor) ; Mücke, Pavel (referee)
Presented Bachelor Thesis Connexions between village population and the insane asylum in Horní Beřkovice in the years 1968-1989 is a contribution to the theme of Czechoslovak psychiatry and its relation to ordinary people during the period of normalization in Czechoslovakia. The aim of my work is to bring people's views closer to the institution, which have evolved and dynamically changed over the years. Based on interviews with narrators, residents of the village and former employees of the asylum that I did during field research, I describe their memories in contrast to the history of the asylum. Thus, the thesis deals with a rather subjective view of the entire history of the period under review and, besides the chronicle records, also brings the views of the respondents to the situation at that time.
