Nurpeisova, Kuanysh ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kalibová, Květa (referee) ; Opara, Oksana B. (referee)
Reproductive behaviour of repatriates from Mongolia and ethnic Kazakhs in Mongolia Abstract Differences and commonalities of reproductive behaviour of repatriates from Mongolia and ethnic Kazakhs currently living in Mongolia are the main focus of the submitted doctoral thesis. The data used in this research were obtained from the own sample survey carried out in the framework of the field research conducted during the summer of 2009. The field research has been supported by Charles University in Prague and the JSC "Center for International programs", an administrator of the Bolashak International Scholarship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Special attention in the work is paid to behaviour differentials by sex, age, attained educational level, place of residence and actual number of children. The leading intention was to show how migration, through disruption of original social networks and changes in the social environment during the first stage of socialization of the second generation of repatriates, influenced reproductive behaviour of women in particular birth cohorts. Besides, the presented doctoral research tries to answer the questions whether repatriates influence demographic situation in Kazakhstan in required direction by having (traditionally) numerous families or whether they...

Rodionov, Viktor ; Pavlík, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee) ; Kalibová, Květa (referee)
Population development of Kazakhstan: geographic, economic and geopolitical aspects Abstract Present research based on analysis of the main trends in demographic development of Kazakhstan at the national and regional level. Demographic changes are quite important factor affecting the problems of territorial, economic and geopolitical development of the country. Relatively small population quite clearly reflects the changes of economic and geopolitical conditions. The result of it is the changes in population size, structure, and geographical pattern. Over the past decade in Kazakhstan observed population growth and change of ethnic structure. Against this background, distribution of the population within the country becomes one of the key problems in Kazakhstan. The main reason is growing disproportions in economic development of regions. Quite significant role here plays the ethnic heterogeneity of the regions, which also determines the nature of population development. Under such conditions, the demographic development acquires strategic importance.
The Family as an Externality within a Market Economy: Evidence from the Czech Republic
Sivková, Olga ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mlčoch, Lubomír (referee) ; Hašková, Hana (referee)
The Family as an Externality within a Market Economy: Evidence from the Czech Republic The dissertation thesis deals with an issue of fertility decline in developed countries from a perspective of relationship between the family and the market economy. The family is perceived as an externality with respect to theoretical economic framework as well as to real economy of the Czech Republic in the period of economic transition. In other words, neither theory nor applied policy fully reflects contribution of the family for the whole society. The thesis goes into the family specification from distinct standpoints, its development within time, relationship to economy and briefly introduces economic approaches to the family at both micro and macro level. In addition, the thesis carries out analyses of Czech data in the period 1989-2010. While the macro analysis is focused on interaction between fertility and economy performance, the micro analysis is devoted to financial support provided by state to the family via the social scheme and the tax system. Keywords: the family, fertility, economy, the Czech Republic, the social scheme, the tax system

Zykmundová, Eliška ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šídlo, Luděk (referee)
Social and demographic characteristics of the urban population of Prague and Bratislava in terms of type of building Abstract The objective of this thesis is to discover and to analyze socio-demographic structure of the population of Prague and Bratislava. The first part of the study presents the basic information about the historical, administrative and demographic development of the selected regions. There are also introduced numerous researches and the concepts of the internal structure of cities. There are created socially and demographically different parts of the cities through the methods of principal component analysis and cluster analysis. These regions are also different due to their population development, which is described between 1996 and 2010. The analysis showed that there are almost the same areas in both cities where we can observe very similar trends of the processes of fertility, mortality and migration. There are also identified the differences between persons living in a diverse type of building according to their gender, age, education, marital status and health. This thesis shows the opportunity to use data from different disciplines, especially demography, social geography and sociology. Keywords: social and demographic structure of cities, Prague, Bratislava, population...
Trends and patterns of cancer mortality in Kazakhstan in comparison with some selected European countries from 1986 to 2008
Ashimov, Askat ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
Trends and patterns of cancer mortality in Kazakhstan in comparison with some selected European countries from 1986 to 2008 Abstract This thesis primarily addresses mortality patterns and trends by main causes of death and by major neoplasms in Kazakhstan in comparison with the selected European countries: the Czech Republic, France and Sweden during 1986-2008. Within the whole group of main causes of death, the changes of mortality levels in different groups of neoplasms are analyzed. The analysis is accompanied with the comparison of mortality levels from major neoplasms within the selected countries. Afterwards the thesis focuses on cancer causes and risk factors in the countries under observation. The analysis concludes that the current mortality situation in Kazakhstan follows up long term adverse mortality trends of the past two decades and neoplasms remain an important public health problem in Kazakhstan. Key Words: mortality, cancer, malignant neoplasms, cause of death, standardized mortality rates, comparison, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, France, Sweden
Regression models with alternatively distributed response
Kučera, Tomáš ; Komárek, Arnošt (advisor) ; Zvára, Karel (referee)
This thesis deals with regression models in the case of binary response variable. Linear and logistic regression models are defined for different types of predictors. Then the thesis uses the theory of maximum likelihood and applies it to the special case of logistic regression model. Both exact inference of model parameters and hypothesis testing with related interval inference are discussed. Suitable methods for numerical solving of selected methods are suggested. In the final part, the discussed methods are applied to real credit scoring data from the field of banking, using the statistical software R.
Comparative analysis of cardiovascular mortality in Czechia and Sweden during 1970-2007
Nerušilová, Hana ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
Comparative analysis of cardiovascular mortality in Czechia and Sweden during 1970-2007 Abstract The main aim of this thesis is to describe and compare the development of the level of cardiovascular mortality in Czechia and Sweden during 1970-2007, which is contextualized into the changes of the overall mortality. Within the whole group of circulatory diseases the changes of mortality levels in different groups of circulatory diseases or by certain diagnoses are analysed. The analysis is accompanied with the comparison of cardiovascular mortality levels within the whole Europe. Afterwards the thesis focuses on cardiovascular risk factors and the quality of healthcare in both countries. The analysis concludes that the decline of cardiovascular mortality begun in Czechia ten years later than in Sweden but still sooner than in majority of post-communist countries. The decline was in both countries more evident for acute forms of cardiovascular diseases. The decrease in mortality was mainly attributable to progress in healthcare in Czechia whereas in Sweden it was caused particularly by the positive development of risk factors.

Roma population in Slovakia and possibilities of its prediction Abstract The aim of this study is to analyze and to evaluate the demographic reproduction of the Roma population in Slovakia. In the first part, attention is focused on analyzing the demographic processes as well as selected population structure. Primarily, we focused on the description of the fertility and mortality. In addition, we analyze induced and spontaneous abortion and health status of Roma. In terms of population structures, our attention was turned to the structure by age, marital status and highest educational attainment. Important to the overall understanding of reproductive behavior is also characteristic of the Roma families. Based on these findings we prepared projection of Roma population in Slovakia for the period 1981-2030. This study especially aims to point out the changes in the reproductive behavior of the Roma population in Slovakia and its possible development in the future. Keywords: Roma population, fertility, mortality, abortion, health status, Roma family, population structures, population projection, Slovak Republic
Cloud computing using a hierarchical component system
Kučera, Tomáš ; Hnětynka, Petr (advisor) ; Kofroň, Jan (referee)
Cloud computing is nowadays a popular computing paradigm. Computers are interconnected via network and jointly offer a lot of computing performance. SOFA 2 is a hierarchical component system offering a distributed run-time environment; therefore, it is a suitable environment for cloud computing. Applications are composed from components; each component may run on different computer in the `cloud'. The deployment of the components influences the overall performance of the application and the utilization of resources in the `cloud'; therefore, it has to be planned carefully. In this thesis, an algorithm for automated deployment planning of hierarchical component-based applications is proposed and further implemented in the SOFA 2 system. The algorithm incorporates components' demands and machines' resources in order to maximize performance of the deployed applications. The thesis also proposes and implements extensions that allow using the SOFA 2 component system as an actual cloud platform.
