Králová, Kristýna ; Cahlíková, Lucie (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
CHARLES UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF PHARMACY IN HRADEC KRÁLOVÉ DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOGNOSY AND PHARMACEUTICAL BOTANY CANDIDATE: Kristýna Králová SUPERVISOR: prof. Ing. Lucie Cahlíková, Ph.D. CONSULTANT: Mgr. Filip Pidaný TITLE OF DIPLOMA THESIS: Amaryllidaceae alkaloids as inspiration of preparation of selective butyrylcholinesterase II Plants of the family Amaryllidaceae are an important source of biologically active substances, which are labeled as Amaryllidaceae alkaloids (AAs). These natural products show a wide range of biological characteristics, for which they are also intensively studied. Their significant biological effects include antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, and cytotoxic activity. Their other important characteristic is the ability to inhibit both cholinesterases: acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE). Inhibition of AChE is used in the therapy of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Currently, in the treatment of the symptoms of this disease, one AA, galanthamine, is used. Recently a new structural type of AAs, carltonins, have been isolated from the plant Narcissus pseudonarcissus cv. Carlton. These substances showed a significant inhibitory effect against BuChE and became the inspiration for the synthesis of selective BuChE inhibitors....
The Language Analysis of Selected Baroque Songs Contained in the Kancionálu českém of Václav Matěj Šteyer
Sport as a tool of International Politics: International Olympic Committee and mechanism of host city election
Králová, Kristýna ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
This thesis is focused on one of our sport diplomacy institutions, namely the International Olympic Committee. It aspires to primarily introduce the International Olympic Committee as an influential institution in international relations, whereas, also attempting to examine whether it behaves normatively and with certain political responsibility. The International Olympic Committee is introduced, based on content analysis method, in the introductory part of the thesis, whereas attention is focused on its structure, decision making process, the idea of Olympism and primarily the mechanism of host city election. Furthermore, logistic regression analysis is conducted. The analysis aspires to answer, whether the International Olympic Committee elects host cities in accordance with the principles of the ide of Olympism, or whether other factors prevail. The analysis is then supplemented with a case study, which deals with the issue of the Beijing Games. The Case study stems from the Rising Powers theory and the regression analysis results and attempts to elucidate the Beijing second success in winning the bid for the 2022 Games despite the controversy which followed the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games. The Thesis comes to several conclusions. Firstly, it negates the idea of the normative function of...
Fast Goes the Fleeting Time: The Miscellaneous Concepts of Time in Different Old Norse Genres and their Causes
Králová, Kristýna ; Starý, Jiří (advisor) ; Simek, Rudolf (referee) ; O'Donoghue, Heather (referee)
The thesis is concerned with time reckoning and time perception in Old Norse culture. Based on the analysis of various prosaic and poetic works or genres I show what the domestic pre- Christian images of time most probably looked like. I also investigate in what respects the original images of time have changed depending on social development, namely as regards the arrival of Christianity and feudalism to the North. Old Norse images of time are reconstructed by analysing the temporal structure of primary sources. I examine the systems of dating and time indications used in the texts, as well as the properties of narrative time. The last mentioned is achieved based on the categories of order, duration and frequency defined by Gérard Genette. The primary sources are divided into three groups in the thesis. The first group is comprised of works that include traces of the pre-Christian understanding of time. Besides Poetic Edda and Snorri's Edda, I have also included the so-called legendary and family sagas in this group. The second group is comprised of different types of texts, all of which adopt foreign ways of time reckoning that spread to Iceland especially through the influence of the Church and through various learned treatises. Besides the Old Norse computistical treatise known as Rím I, which...

Analysis of time as a narrative category in Old Norse sagas
Králová, Kristýna ; Starý, Jiří (advisor) ; Kadečková, Helena (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to set up characteristic attributes of saga time structure and with concern to these to show how the Old Norse people understood time. Main attention is concentrated on the time structure of the family sagas. First, it is shown the principal of the dating in saga and how it differs from the principal of dating in annal and chronicle. I proceed to deal with the most common time indications to appear in saga and their role in the storytelling. The focus point of this thesis is a comparison of narrated time and time of narration. To support this intention, I use the three concepts of Gerard Genette - duration, order and frequency. Based on the duration concept, I try to investigate why extensive time leaps abound in sagas and what on the other hand appears to have been given some extra author's attention. According to the order concept, a question is discussed to what extent the saga holds the chronological composition. Within the frequency concept, it is compared how many times an event occurs to how many times it is narrated. In the following chapters the time structure of the kings'sagas and the legendary sagas is discussed. The crucial difference between the time structure of these and the structure of family saga is established. There is a conclusion to each chapter,...
