Development of communication ability in children with Down syndrome

The bachelor's thesis, Development of communication ability in children with Down syndrome, is a work of special educational nature aiming to acquaint readers with the issue of communication in children with Down syndrome. The theoretical part is based on Czech and foreign literature analysis and information found in electronic sources. It is divided into two chapters. The first chapter is dealing with communication in general and the development of speech and language skills in intact children. The second one is devoted to Down syndrome, the author is dealing with its definition terminology and etiology. It also elaborates on impaired communication skills of children with Down syndrome, speech therapy intervention and alternative and augmentative communication. The empirical part of this bachelor thesis is included in the third chapter. The main goal of the research is to analyze the development of communication ability in children with Down syndrome, partial goals and research questions have been set based on that. Use of Montessori pedagogy in speech therapy prevention in preschool children

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of Montessori pedagogy and its use in speech therapy prevention in preschool children. The main goal of this thesis is the analysis of methods used in Montessori pedagogy in providing speech therapy prevention in Montessori kindergartens. The bachelor thesis is divided into three chapters. The first two chapters describe the theoretical basis on which the work is based. Based on the professional literature, the chapters define both selected topics. The first theoretical part deals with the theoretical basis of speech therapy. The content includes information about communication, about the development of speech and language, about the areas that influence this development and finally about speech therapy prevention. The second part describes another area that the work deals with, and therefore Montessori pedagogy, its principles, origin and current form in the Czech Republic and in the world. Speech therapy intervention and the profession of speech therapist from the perspective of parents

The diploma thesis deals with the parents' view of the process of speech therapy intervention and the profession of speech therapist. The work is divided into the theoretical part and the practical part. The introductory chapter describes the individual parts of the speech therapy intervention process, namely speech therapy diagnostics, therapy and prevention. The second chapter deals with departments where it is possible to meet speech therapists. The following chapter deals in detail with the competencies of individual speech therapy professions and also their necessary professional training. The fourth and last chapter of the theoretical part is devoted to the parents of children with speech desorder. Their role and participation in the process of speech therapy intervention are described. Subsequently, this issue is also described in the context of the implementation of distance therapies during the Covid-19 pandemic. Speech therapy interventions for adults with cognitive-communication disorders

The diploma thesis deals with the implementation of speech therapy intervention in adults with cognitive-communication deficits. The work consists of theoretical and empirical parts, which together form five chapters. The theoretical part contains four chapters. The first chapter briefly characterizes the issue of cognitive-communication deficits. In the following chapters, the thesis also presents selected types of diseases that are related to the empirical part of the work. The fourth chapter describes speech therapy intervention in these diseases. The last chapter is the empirical part of the work. For the implementation of the research, a qualitative research survey was taken. Using case studies, speech therapy intervention in adults with cognitive-communication deficits was described and then its two components - speech diagnostics and therapy - were evaluated. In addition to the case study, methods of semi-structured interview, participatory observation and document data collection were used to obtain outputs. Premature birth as a cause of communication disabilities

The diploma thesis is focused on the issue of a speech therapy. It deals with premature birth in connection with communication disorder. The first part describes premature birth, mental, motor and speech development of premature babies which will be compared with the development of intact children. The diploma thesis also analyzes level and possibilities of care for premature babies with communication disorder. The second part deals with case studies and interviews using qualitative research methods. The research involved respondents aged 4 to 6 years who were born before the 34th week of pregnancy and their parents. Communication disability in patients with cerebral palsy and it's effect on communication and socialization of the individuals

This Master's thesis explores how developmental dysarthria and communication disability effect the socialization and communication abilities of people with cerebral palsy. The thesis is divided into two primary sections: theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part is divided into four sections (cerebral palsy, disrupted communication abilities in people with cerebral palsy, dysarthria, communication and socialization in people with cerebral palsy). The next part of the work presents the analysis of dysarthria and disrupted communication abilities effect of the socialization and communication abilities in people with cerebral palsy. The empirical section is based on original research, primarily employing qualitative methods, namely semi-⁠structured interviews. I interviewed six individuals all of whom are affected by cerebral palsy and developmental dysarthria. Research goals included how disrupted communication skills, known as developmental dysarthria, affect the individuals' communication and socialization skills, how it affects them in daily situations, what the main hallmarks of these situations are, what these situations have in common and how developmental dysarthria affects the individuals' motivation towards socializing. Phonological abilities of preschool children

The presented diploma thesis is focused on a special pedagogical topic and deals with the phonological abilities of preschool children. The diploma thesis is structured into theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part the reader is introduced with the characteristics of preschool children, principles of the school education system in the Czech Republic based on current legislation, the school's maturity and readiness and the diagnosis of preschool children. The work also presents various divisions of the ontogenesis of speech, language and communication and characterizes individual language levels. The work also describes the development of phonological abilities and introduces phonological abilities in the context of reading literacy. A separate subchapter is devoted to possible diagnostic tools for the diagnosis of phonological abilities and another subchapter is about the Batteries of tests of phonological abilities by Gabriela Seidlová Málková and Markéta Caravolas which was performed in the empirical part. This Master's thesis deals with the topic of impaired communication skills in premature infants. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part consists of three main chapters devoted to the development of children's speech, premature babies and care for premature babies. The first chapter describes speech and language, the ontogenetic development of speech, language levels in the ontogenesis of speech and impairment of communication skills in childhood. The second chapter defines a premature baby and discusses the most common postpartum complications. The third chapter is devoted to the care of premature babies in the Czech Republic, describes the logopaedic care regarding such children and their prognosis. The practical part is based on the methods of qualitative research. A triangulation of research methods was chosen - document analysis, observation and interview. The main goal was to describe how impaired communication skills are manifested in premature infants. The partial goal was to find out what postpartum complications occur in premature infants.
