Diagnostics and development of partial funcions of pre-school children with hearing disabilities

This thesis deals with the diagnostics and development level of partial functions of preschool children, due to the necessity of the skills for acquiring basic school skills, ie. reading, writing and counting. Children with hearing disabilities are a specific group in this area due to the possible difficulties in obtaining information from the majority auditory society, and thus acquiring the necessary knowledge. One of the goals of the thesis presented here is to find out what diagnostic materials are suitable and evaluating for children with hearing disabilities in preschool age. Whether tests are primarily focused for this group of children or tests designed for hearing children can be used effectively. The second goal of this thesis is to determine if and to what extent there will be an improvement in test results in case of controlled activities took place with children in comparison with the period when similar activities were not carried out with them. A six-month research was conducted with selected children with hearing disabilities, during which they were repeatedly tested using two different diagnostic materials. Education of pupils with developmental dysphasia in younger school age

1 ABSTRACT Master's thesis focuses on the education of pupils with developmental dysphasia diagnosis in the elementary school. The main goal is to describe education possibilities of these pupils. The thesis describes possibilities of parents and their children, types of elementary schools, where they can study, and what specific conditions are available for education of pupils with specific language impairment. Theoretical part is divided into three chapters. The first chapter focuses on child attending elementary school, communication skills development, compulsory education and education program for elementary school. The second chapter describes developmental dysphasia, its history and terminological definitions, etiology, symptomatology, diagnostics in the Czech Republic and abroad, differential diagnostics, therapy and prognosis. The third chapter describes pupil with developmental dysphasia attending elementary school, education readiness, approaches for pupil support in different elementary school types. The thesis provides an analysis and comparison of Geography textbooks for children with hearing impairment, children with a mild intellectual disability and children in mainstream elementary schools. The aim of the thesis is to highlight the current state of Geography textbooks for children with hearing impairment and, by means of combining findings on deaf education and the didactics of Geography, suggest specific solutions for improving the quality of education of children with hearing impairment through raising the standard for didactic materials used for teaching. The introduction of the thesis explores the position of Geography as a field of study within the School and Framework Educational Programmes; the objectives of teaching Geography at the second stage of elementary school are examined in relation to the target groups whose the textbooks are analysed in this thesis. The topic of the thesis is communication between the school and families of pupils from ethnic minorities. Theoretical part deals with communication in general first, explains the concept of communication, describes social and pedagogical communication and basis of communication. It is also focusing on communicants, communication situations, types of communication and effective communication. The next part focuses on intercultural communication, intercultural competences and intercultural relations. It also describes basic terms such as group, culture, ethnicity, ethnic identity, ethnic consciousness, nation, nationality, national and ethnic minority, describes pupils who live in different living conditions and different cultural environment, pupil foreigner, pupil with different native language and legislative. Last part deals with the cultural specifics of national minorities and closer introduces Vietnamese, Russian, Ukrainian and Roma national minorities. Theory of mind in preschool cochlear implant users

This thesis deals with theory of mind in preschool cochlear implant users. The theoretical part introduces topics: hearing impairment in childhood, cochlear implantation, theory of mind in preschool children and development of preschool children. All these topics are processed with regard to the issue of children using cochlear implant (or implants). In addition to general information, the thesis focuses mainly on the results of current foreign researches concentrating on children using cochlear implants. The empirical part summarizes the research of theory of mind in Czech preschool cochlear implant users. Thirty-one children in total participated in this research, eleven cochlear implant users, and twenty intact children in the control group. Theory of mind has been tested by similar desires task, dissimilar desires task, Smarties task, and Sally-Ann task. In addition, a short questionnaire was distributed to the parents of cochlear implant users. In order to assess competences in the Czech language, the cochlear implant users were given Vocabulary test from test battery of Seidlová-Málková and Smolík (2014). The use of modern technological aids for the development of spoken speech at childern with severve hearing impairment.

This thesis is concerned with aids intended for the speech development of children with hearing impairment. The theoretical part summarizes the subject matter of hearing impairment, the possibilities of compensatory aids, speech development, speech therapy intervention and aids helping the speech development of people with hearing impairment. The theoretical part is mostly dedicated to the Speech Viewer aid, which has inspired the development of the new Hlásek application, which originated as a part of the inter-university cooperation of Charles University and ČVUT in Prague within working on two diploma theses. The introduction of the empirical part of the thesis describes the created application and with the use of gathering and analysis of data, interviews and observation, it follows the contribution of the application to the development of basic features of speech of children with hearing impairment. The results of the empirical investigation are processed with the help of graphs and thus they clearly represent the advances of the children in individual parts of the application. The conclusion of the thesis is dedicated to the future development of the application and the establishment of further possible cooperation with Children's Hearing Centre Tamtam.
