Chytilová, Kučera, Krumbachová: Daisies and Fruit of Paradise as an experiment of three authors
Křížkovská, Terezie ; Svatoňová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Klimeš, Ivan (referee)
(in English): The following bachelors thesis deals with the creative cooperation of the Czech film director Věra Chytilová with the director of photography Jaroslav Kučera and art director Ester Krumbachová on the films Daisies (1966) and Fruit of Paradise (1969). Its aim is to answer the question if it is possible to distinguish between the contributions of each of the filmmakers or if rather their artwork is a product of three equivalent authors. Both of the films are characteristic for their extreme artistic stylization thanks to the experimental work with plot and film form, and therefore the thesis focuses on this tendency for experimentation as a specific Czechoslovak cultural phenomenon in the sixties and observes it among different art fields at the time. Subsequently it describes the transformation in different artistic approaches and shows their impact on filmmaking. It unravels not only the social and cultural transformations of the time, but also the institutional changes in film production that represent essential conditions for the genesis of the New Wave in Czech cinema and along with it experimental filmmaking. Thereafter it defines the characteristic themes and style of previous works of Věra Chytilová, Jaroslav Kučera and Ester Krumbachová. In the last part it uses these...
Report on State of the Anti-communism: Red Scare Movies Between Actual World and Fictional World
Mišúr, Martin ; Hanáková, Petra (advisor) ; Klimeš, Ivan (referee)
The main objective of this bachelor's thesis is to focus on Red Scare movies, which are cultural relics of McCarthyism in the United States. So-called "anti-communist cycle" consists of approximately forty feature movies, only at first sight creating a remarkably compact unit. The intention of this thesis is to select from the anti-communist cycle a sample of twelve movies, which in my opinion most accurately follow the contemporary rhetoric of radical anti-communism in American society, attempt to embrace the idea of omnipresent threat and necessary interventions by anti-communist organizations. Methodologically, the thesis arises from the new film history and relies on the theory of fictional worlds, because it provides a suitable tool for describing links between fiction and its reference to what we experience in the real world. The first chapter deals with the history and film industry context - genesis of the Cold War, ideological background of communism and anti-communism in the United States and manifestation of contemporary pressures in the film industry. The beginning of the second chapter will serve as a contextual framework for the main topic of the thesis: Hollywood anti-communist movies. What follows is an analytical part consisting of three complex subchapters always concluded by...

The Czechoslovak production of the Amadeus movie
Mandová, Petra ; Klimeš, Ivan (advisor) ; Přádná, Stanislava (referee)
This thesis brings an insight to the production practice of commission with capitalist countries in Czechoslovak cinematography during the communist era. One particular example is the most successful commission movie, Amadeus. The production of the film was very specific because of the director Milos Forman - American citizen with Czech origins, returned to his native country as a successful Hollywood director. This paper wants to examine the official position of the state, which was that emigration was forbidden and the director had to negotiate terms with the political leaders. In itself a clash of two different worlds, two different codes of ethics and two different life styles while rooted in the same culture. This situation caused incidents of misunderstanding sometimes even absurd moments. This work primarily deals with the 'Czechoslovak stance' throughout the stages of creation, from the concept of the movie to preparations, negotiation of film locations in Prague, selection of the crew, actors, making the costumes, up to the shooting itself. Hence the focus is especially on complicated negotiations with Tyl Theatre and Archbishop's palace. Furthermore presence of Forman aroused a special interest from the Secret Police. Keywords Milos Forman, Amadeus, production, comission movie
