Racism and identity of second generation Afro-Caribbean immigrants in Great Britain. Critical discourse analysis of selected Brititsh roots reggae texts produced in second half of 1970's
Marinovová, Klára ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Menclová, Barbora (referee)
Racial tensions in UK escalating to violent conflicts from early 50ʼs on, led to series of changes in British legislation. Migration was systematically restricted, and regulations of entry were becoming much more severe. Discrimination of Caribbean and Asian immigrants in labor market, housing and education was extensive. Every attempt to address racial discrimination on the level of legislation was inefficient and hardly enforceable. Case study presented is situated in this social-political context. It is focused on second generation of afro-Caribbean minority in 70ʼs and its reaction to expulsion from British society, denying British identity and its fight against oppression through music and especially through language used itself. Jamaican Creole and in British, most notably in London surroundings, on Creole based system of adaptations called London Jamaican became significant feature of ethnic identification of afro-Caribbean (black) adolescents. This feature was used in conversations almost always through phenomenon of code-switching, where Creole features used were linked to attempt to define the speaker against dominant white society and oppressive system. Using of the features was often purposeful, because second generation of migrants was fully competent in using standard British English....
Communication Strategies of the European Parliament in Brussels on the Example of the Role-play Game in Parlamentarium
Vlčková, Jana ; Matějka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Kasáková, Zuzana (referee)
Communication of the European Parliament with the public takes place within various means and on different levels. This thesis offers an analysis of the European Parliament's communication strategy through the role-play game in the Brussels Parlamentarium. A role- play game simulating the legislative procedure of the European Union is available in all the EU official languages and it is targeted primarily at the youth between 15 and 18 years. The analysis is based on the political communication and political marketing theory, as well as on the concept of the role-play game as an educational tool. The methodological background of the analysis is embedded in the ethnographic research and its constituent methods, especially a participant observation and questionnaires survey, further completed by qualitative analysis of the visual and textual materials of the game. First, the advertising tools of the RPG are presented. Second, the course of the game is described and its transcript analysed. Third, the ways of reception of the activity by the participants are illustrated. The goal of the thesis is to show whether the role- play game is a successful communication tool of the European Parliament with the youth.
Parliament of the Czech Republic and Scrutiny of European Legislative Process
Nováčková, Kateřina ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
Aim of this Diploma Thesis is to have a closer look at current powers of National Parliaments of the Member States to influence legislative process of the European Union. The main question is how do National Parliaments control legislative process in practise. Theoretical Framework is based on a debate about Democratic Legitimacy of the European Union. First the term needs to be defined and basic arguments about the (non)existence of Democratic deficit need to be introduced, then the research question can be introduced. The main focus is on Early Warning Mechanism and a process of issueing of reasoned opinions. An assumption is that through a process of issueing those reasoned opinions by National Parliaments that consist of a democratic elected political parties a Democratic Legitimacy of the European Union could be strenghtened. It is a one-case study of Czech Parliament. All the reasoned opinions, that Czech Senate and Czech Chamber of Deputies issued, will be analysed.
Euroscepticism in Czech and German daily newspapers - analysis of the media portrayal of GDPR and EU
Černý, Tomáš ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
This thesis analyzes how the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the European Union was portrayed in selected Czech and German printed media throughout the year 2018 and investigates whether Euroscepticism - in its widest sense - expresses itself within the articles. The research on Euroscepticism in media so far has largely focused on "historic" events and "significant" questions of the European integration, not on technical-legal topics, i.e. topics with presumably lesser impact on the future course of the European project. An analysis of Euroscepticism in media texts dealing with a specific EU legislative act has so far been lacking. The paper at hand therefore examines whether Euroscepticism manifests itself also in connection to such topics. As denying and/or criticizing EU's policies is accepted by most academics as an expression of Euroscepticism, next to denying the EU as such, this study defines Euroscepticism as any criticism on part of the EU and the GDPR, since this regulation can be understood as embodiment of EU's policy on data protection. The paper uses a comparative research design, using the method of content analysis of six printed daily newspapers, namely Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Bild, Mladá fronta DNES, Právo, and Blesk. The results...

Kratschmer, Adam ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the political marketing of Northern Ireland political party Sinn Féin between 1996-2007. The thesis is divided in three chapters based on electoral terms to Northern Ireland Forum and afterwards Northern Ireland Assembly. During this period, Sinn Féin undergoes a considerable development. This development is divided into phases, which helps to determine which type of party is Sinn Féin according to Jennifer Lees-Marshment's typology of parties. Sinn Féin is shifting from a party oriented on product (POP) to a party oriented on sales (SOP). Sinn Féin is consistently changing its approach towards the politics in Northern Ireland. From an extremist party, which is unwilling to participate in state's politics, to not only mainstream party, but also the second strongest party in Northern Ireland. During several periods of time, the party professionalizes its communication within the party, but also its communication towards media. The party is gradually developing new "product", which is based on a support of peace process and Good Friday Agreement. With time, the party faces a problem in connection with the paramilitary organization IRA with which was Sinn Féin linked in the past. Due to the shift of Sinn Féin to the sales-oriented side and the market research phase, the...
