Biometric Gateway Using Camera to Identify People

Biometric gateways are used to quickly and accurately identify people. Of the biometric characteristics, iris, face and fingerprints are commonly used. By combining them, better identification results can be achieved. The aim of this thesis is to create such a biometric gateway together with the control application. A combination of iris of both eyes and face is used, which is captured by cameras from three angles to increase accuracy. Neural networks are used to detect and extract face features. Iris recognition is realized using Daugman's algorithm.

Estimate the Height of a Persons from the Video Data

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to create an application that can detect pedestrians and make an estimate of their height from the video data. In the main part of the thesis I introduced security cameras and image processing methods suitable for detecting and classifying objects. Based on the comparison of these methods, I realized the pedestrian detection using Histograms of Oriented Gradients. As the input parameters of the proposed height estimation algorithm, I used the position and properties of the camera and reference objects or points.

The ambiguity of the narrative structure in Daniel Keyes' Flowers for Algernon

This thesis aims to discuss the key narrative features in the short story and novel Flowers for Algernon through the lens of two different narrative frameworks. The first will focus on the traditionally established three-act structure widely recognised as standard in Western fiction. The second will analyse the work from the angle of kishotenketsu, the four-act structure of Oriental literature. The theoretical part will contain a brief description of both narrative structures, noting their main properties. In the practical part, the story will be analysed using both of the described frameworks to highlight the ambiguous nature of its plot progression. Media as a subject of market environment

In this diploma thesis I tried to focus on media and media industry as an economic branch. I think, that this view is specific within media studies, because not much attention is paid to media ekonomics in general. It doesn't mean, that there are no authors dealing with this topic, like Doyle, Picard, McQuail, Curran etc. Nowadays many ingenious media experts are aware of media as a part of market structures. Nevertheless I think, there are many issues to adress. My diploma thesis is dividend into two main parts - theoretical and practical. The first chapter of the theoretical part introduces my view of antagonism between reception of media in society and their real role, which is determined by economic principles. People think of media as an institutions, but they are instrument for capital assets evaluation, which I tried to analyze. I also focused on information as a primary material for media industry. I concerned myself with its influence on media in microeconomics and macroeconomics point of view. I also noticed importace of technological changes. Second chapter is more practical application of theoretical concepts into field of media economics and media management. Particularities of the business environment in Libya

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá specifikami podnikatelského prostředí v Libyi. Pomocí dostupných dat ze zdrojů mezinárodních institucí a rozhovorů s jednotlivci, kteří znají místní podmínky, utvořila autorka přehled a zhodnocení stavu libyjského podnikatelského prostředí. Toto výrazně podléhá politickým náladám v zemi a ve srovnání s ostatními zeměmi regionu se potýká s jedinečnými problémy. Autorka zhodnocuje, že firmy musí rozhodnutí o vstupu na libyjský trh pro jeho komplikovanost a nepřehlednost důkladně zvážit a vybrat k tomu zkušeného obchodního partnera, jehož služby jsou nezbytné hlavně v obchodování s vládním sektorem. Práce udává také základní přehled úskalí libyjského podnikatelského prostředí v oblasti politické, právní, ekonomické, kulturní a z části i technologické.
