Jiskrová, Simona ; Stauber, Jakub (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
The bachelor's thesis "One Hundred Years of KDU-ČSL on the Czech Political Scene: Party Development and Comparison with the Austrian ÖVP" primarily deals with a detailed analysis of the Czech political party KDU-ČSL and subsequent comparison with the Austrian political party ÖVP. The aim is to find out why KDU-ČSL does not achieve such electoral support in the Czech Republic as ÖVP does in Austria. The main concept of the thesis is a political party, therefore is the thesis first devoted to its definition and theories of the emergence of political parties based on different typologies. Last but not least, bachelor's thesis also deals with a detailed historical analysis of the KDU-ČSL and ÖVP. The main part of the bachelor thesis is contained in the last chapter, which is a comparison of both political parties, election results, membership and electoral base, organizational structure, or current election programs. In the end, the results of the comparison are evaluated, in which data from professional sources and available statistics were used.

Attitudes of the political parties to European integration in the Czech Republic
Kučerová, Babeta ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
This Master's Thesis focuses on the topic of the attitudes of the political parties to European integration in the Czech Republic. It does so by analyzing the impact of the European Union on the political parties, that is, it examines to what extent have the parties been Europeanized. The thesis discusses the concept of Europeanization and the mechanism, which is typically applied to explain the changes induced by the EU - the 'goodness of fit' or 'misfit' hypothesis. It proceeds with the discussion on Europeanization in the context of national party systems and political parties. The thesis also introduces the research on Europeanization of the Czech political parties. Based on the literature, it proposes one hypothesis. H1 assumes that the Europeanization of the political parties in the Czech Republic is low. The thesis applies quantitative and qualitative content analysis to programs of six political parties that were drafted for four general elections between 2006-2017. The thesis has come to the conclusion that the Europeanization of the Czech political parties is low as well. Thus, it argues that the hypothesis is confirmed.
Visegrad Countries Positions Towards European Policy on Ilegal Immigration and Asylum
Karaca, Bilal Bahadır ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
Illegal immigration is one of the current problems that occupy the European agenda. With the beginning of the revolutionary movements called 'the Arab Spring' in the Middle East and North Africa, Europe has faced massive uncontrolled migration waves. In this period, the asylum applications in European countries have broken a record in the history of the EU. This situation has impelled the European Union and its member states to take certain measures. However, political disagreements were observed over some of the measures taken by the EU. In light of these developments, this thesis will focus on illegal immigration movements from the Middle East and North Africa region to Europe right after the beginning of the Arab Spring (in other words from at the end of 2010 to now). In this context, this master's thesis aims to give the immigration and asylum policies of the European Union aiming to prevent these illegal immigration waves and to evaluate the political positions of the Visegrad countries during this period.
Reagan's America, Soviet Russia and the End of the Global Cold War: Analysis of the Evolution of the American Grand Strategy in the 1980s of the 20th Century from the Point of View of the "National Security Approach"
Křiklán, Jan ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
The aim of this work will be to analyze the final phase of the Cold War. The 1980s was an extraordinary period for anyone interested in the history of the Cold War. Not only did the Cold War end or bring their final stages, but even before the 1980s, with a similarly almost unprecedented limitation of tensions between the two major players in the East-West conflict, the US and the Soviet Union. In my diploma thesis I will analyze the basic premises of the "triumphalistic" and "revisionist" schools of the Cold War. Diploma thesis from the concept of "national security approach". The conclusion of the work is that Ronal Reagan has had an impact on the end of the study wars and thus does not apply the conclusions of the "revisionist" school. However, there are no conclusions that apply only to cases where only diplomatic and compromise measures are involved.
European perspective of Turkey's integration into the EU: the role of identity
Vaňousová, Daniela ; Jeřábek, Martin (advisor) ; Knutelská, Viera (referee)
This thesis addresses the question of whether national identities affect the attitude of the EU member states on the question of Turkey's accession to the European Union. The thesis is based on the theory of constructivism, according to which understanding of the collective identity of the actors allows for better understanding of their actions. From the perspective of constructivism, each collective identity is produced in particular environment by certain predominant ideas which subsequently define the specific interests and preferences of the actors. The main hypothesis assumes that the attitude of states towards Turkey, as well as their arguments for and against its accession, will vary depending on different identities. Four EU member states - Germany, France, Austria, Poland - were selected to answer the question and verify the hypothesis. The analysis of these states is conducted in the form single-case studies. For each state, a sub-hypothesis was then set out to predict the attitude of states to the question of Turkish membership and to set observable consequences. Empirical analysis of national characteristics and analysis of their attitude towards Turkey's potential membership in the EU aims to confirm that the attitude of states really reflects certain features of national identity....
Impact of the immigration crisis on the European public debate - Europeanization of the national public spheres in Austria and Germany
Mekýšová, Kamila ; Knutelská, Viera (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the impact of the recent immigration crisis in Europe on Europeanization of national public spheres and its implications for the democratic deficit of the European Union (EU). The main aim of this work was to determine, whether there is a tendency towards Europeanization of public spheres in two selected EU member states (Austria and Germany), and if it is the case, closely examine the forms and specific characteristics of this process. Besides the Europeanization of public sphere, a Europeanization of collective national identity was studied, as it is considered to be an essential part of Europeanized national public spheres. In order to provide answers for these questions, a qualitative content analysis was used for this research, analyzing opinion articles from two selected quality newspapers from each studied country. Newspapers with different political affiliation were chosen in order to get the most representative sample for the analysis. This research covered the debate on migration crisis within period of one year (May 2015 to April 2016). A general trend of Europeanization was recorded in both national public spheres within this debate.
