Changes of religiousness in the Ještěd Prose by Karolina Světlá
Kamenická, Andrea ; Vaněk, Václav (referee) ; Heczková, Libuše (referee)
Rigorózní práce s názvem "Proměny religiozity v ještědských prózách Karoliny Světlé" se zabývá rozbory ještědských románů spisovatelky Karoliny Světlé. Prostřednictvím analýzy proměn náboženského vědomí postav a následné interpretace vystihuje charakteristiku podob lidové zbožnosti v prózách. V práci je konfrontován beletristický obraz jednotlivých forem religiozity s reálnými historickými skutečnostmi, kdy v rámci ještědských románů dochází k ověření nejpodstatnějších aspektů náboženských hledisek v "dlouhém" 19. století. Cílem práce je reflektovat vývojové proměny prozaických děl Karoliny Světlé a interpretovat je na pozadí námi stanovených problémových okruhů dobového pojetí zbožnosti a přístupů k samotné víře. Abstract The dissertation entitled "Changes of religiousness in the Ještěd Prose by Karolina Světlá" deals with an analysis of the Ještěd Novels by the author Karolina Světlá. It characterises the depiction of vernacular devoutness in the novels by means of an analysis of the changes in thecharacters' religious consciousness and their subsequent interpretation. The paper confronts the fictional depiction of the various forms of religiousness with real historic facts; the most important factors of the religious positions of the "long" 19th century are verified on the scale of the Ještěd...
A green canon? What, how and why "the colourful and the green" read.
Dosoudilová, Anna ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Heczková, Libuše (referee)
The thesis is based on questionnaire survey conducted among 136 so called "green and colourful" respondents. The term "the colourful and the green" comes from the professor of environmental sociology, Hana Librová, and refers to people living the ecologically beneficial lifestyle that can be characterized by voluntary or intentional modesty. The target of the survey was to find out whether these people are influenced in their lifestyle by books or which books would articulate their worldview the best; what books they resonate with. Often repeated titles formed a "green influential literary canon" that is further analyzed in the thesis. First, the canon as a whole is examined, second the three most frequent books are studied with an ecocritical approach. In the canon, a minimum titles from the field of deep ecology, nature writing as well as science fiction or utopia were registered. Despite the expectation, there were many books related to New Age movement in the canon as well as pop-cultural spiritual writings. Nevertheless, books concerning native americans, together with eco- philosophical works largely dominated. Functions that the publications fulfill for the readers are seen as a clamp of diverse books in the canon. There are three main functions defined and further explained:...
Dandysm Today
Schlupková, Gabriela ; Heczková, Libuše (advisor) ; Merhaut, Luboš (referee)
In my thesis for a bachelor degree I introduce the evolution of dandyism and I try to describe how this phenomenon is viewed by present-day (literary) theoretitians. This originally social phenomenon is embodied in the figure of Lord Byron, connected to romanticism and is broaden by literary and intellectual stances where Baudelaire contemplates concept of beauty and modernity, Oscar Wild represents the decadent aesthetic of the end of the century and where the Czech dandy is Arthur Breisky. In my thesis I also address contemporary expressions of dandyism - neoconservatism on one side and the esthetics of camp on the other side. Amongst the basic principles of dandyism belongs stylization - underlying function is surface, dandy stylizes himself into the image of an artifect, his individuality expressed through clothes (or more radically through his own body). For this reason I also pay attention to a fashion as a medium of (artistic) expression. Keywords Dandy, surface, mask, stylization, aesthetics, mystification, contemporary expression of dandyism, self-creation.
Helimadoe and Petrolejové lampy: A gender analysis of Jaroslav Havlíček's novels
Teclová, Petra ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (advisor) ; Heczková, Libuše (referee)
The master thesis Helimadoe and Petrolejové lampy: A Gender Analysis of Jaroslav Havlíček's Novels examines selected texts and conveys gender-focused interpretations. The analysis of both of Havlíček's novels is carried out within the context of feminist literary theories. The main methodological and theoretical foundations of the thesis are "resisting reading" as introduced by Judith Fetterly and Jonathan Culler's "reading as a woman". Since the thesis is also a qualitative sociological analysis, it uses the processes of discourse analysis as well. The text focuses on the issue of power relations and their gender dimension, on the construction of gender and gender identity of individual female and male characters, on their sexuality, on their gendered activities and on the description and interpretation of the environment that the literary characters inhabit. A special attention is primarily (but not only) paid to main female characters and their revolt against the patriarchal system of the society. In relation to this problem the thesis necessarily deals with the topic of the gender social order and it shows what influence this order has along with other factors on the lives of individual characters. Key words: feminist criticism, resisting reading, Jaroslav Havlíček, Helimadoe, Petrolejové...

The ship as a point of encounter between life and death: nautical metaphor in modern literature
Ondroušková, Světlana ; Málek, Petr (advisor) ; Heczková, Libuše (referee)
6 Abstract The diploma thesis concerns the topic of nautical metaphorics in modern literature in a broad sense of the term as defined by Silvio Vietta. Thus besides the topic itself and its main focus on the work of Franz Kafka it also covers the process of evolution of its attributes, which led to the specific imagery of modernism on the brink of the 20th century. The work as a whole derives from the conception of the nautical space as a smooth space of nomadism as proposed by Deleuze and Guattari. The first part is based on the propositions of Bachelard's theory of material imagination. It deals with the characteristics of the literary space shaped by the sea element and the possibility of alogorical reading of such images. The hydraulics of the sea provides the nautical space with its unique qualities: shapelessness, flexibility and ambivalence. These enable to percieve the nautical space not only as the space of happenings, but also as the happenings of the space. Thus it puts emphasis on the activity and dynamic plasticity of the substance. The second part reveals the ancient and Christian roots of nautical imagery and its tradition in the European literature. The work of Comenius exemplifies the change in the symbolism of the ship with the arrival of the Age of Exploration which rendered the ship a...
A Femme fatale, a Mother, a Builder of Communism or...? The Image of women in Czech fiction of Socialist Realism
Slavíková, Aneta ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Heczková, Libuše (referee)
Keywords Socialist realism, new and old world, new and old human, homo duplex, sublimation and transformation of sexuality. Abstract The bachelor's diploma thesis deals with the image of women in representative Czech prose fiction of socialist realism with an emphasis on representations created in fiction of the 1950s (alternatively taking into account also the so-called period of 'normalization' of the 1970s). For comparative reasons, it also presents some examples from the Soviet fiction of socialist realism, which influenced the Czech context of the 1950s. The analyses of female literary protagonists take into account both the physiognomic aspect of the body as well as mental characteristics. They focus on the semantic and ideological function, which is attributed to distinctive age groups (the characters of girls, mothers, grandmothers) as well as to the function of a binary opposition 'woman as enemy' versus 'good woman' as they had been coined by the official ideology of that era. The analyses include interpretations of the social status of women in society, or more precisely their social status in a 'man`s world' (social status in a working team versus the status in a family). The bachelor's diploma thesis also pays attention to the (usually absent) representations of intimate relationships between a...
