A sociolinguistic study of the New York City English and its lexis
DVOŘÁKOVÁ, Karolína
This bachelor´s thesis investigates the lexicon of New York City English (NYCE) dialect, which results from the rich linguistic landscape of the city. Due to the fact that New York City has a long history of immigration, many exogenous words have found their way into the speech of its residents. In addition to words that have been introduced into the dialect by immigrants, the New York lexicon is also rich for words and phrases that were coined directly in the city. Previous research conducted on this topic indicated that some lexical devices used by New Yorkers are different from those used by speakers in the rest of the United States, and many of the dialect´s characteristic traits remain unique to the area of New York City. To date there has been very little recent research done on the spread of the lexicon beyond the dialectal area and the actual use of this vocabulary among New Yorkers. This thesis has aimed to fill this gap. The spread and use of the lexicon was investigated by means of a questionnaire, targeted at three groups of respondents: New Yorkers, Americans living outside of New York City and people from other English-speaking countries. The data collected from each cohort were presented, analyzed, and interpreted. The survey results firstly confirmed that New Yorkers, in comparison with respondents from other parts of the United States and with respondents from other English-speaking countries, are generally more familiar with words that have roots in immigrant languages. New Yorkers are also more likely to use this NYCE lexis in their everyday lives. Secondly, as regards the expressions that were coined in New York City, the results revealed that many of these words remain to some extent restricted to the New York City area. Finally, the findings also indicate that some of the NYCE lexis surveyed is gradually disappearing from the speech of New Yorkers and remains known and used mainly by speakers belonging to the older generation.

Stavba přední končetiny koně vhodného pro drezurní soutěže
DVOŘÁKOVÁ, Karolina
The aim of this diploma work was to specify the requirements for the front limb of a horse suitable for dressage competitions. The observed factors were individual parts of the front legs. Specifically, it was the shoulder angle, shoulder length, humerus length, shoulder joint angle, forearm length, carpal bones lenght, pastern lenght, horse height centimeters, and dimension from the shoulder joint to the hip. In total, 103 horses of eight different breeds used in dressage competitions were measured. The forearms of the horses were rated at performance levels L (58 horse), S (24 horses) and ST (21 horses). All measured horses did participate in dressage competitions in the past two years (2016 and 2017). From the dressage protocols belonging to the dressage racers, there were overall signs of walking, extended trot, extended canter, half-pass step and walk. For objective assessment, measurements were evaluated by Statistica program and by one-factor anova, Turkey's HSD test and Spearman correlations. The results of this work show that the most important dimension was the shoulder angle (ST 48 °). Furthermore, the horse height, where it turned out that the higher the horse (the ST 180 cm), the higher the performance and the better marks in dressage competitions. The length of the shoulder bone (about 44 cm) affects the marks for trot, canter and walk, but it does not affect whole performance too much. The pastern length (ST performance 18 cm) affects the grades behind the walk and the canter. On average, the shoulder length is about 61 cm, the size between the shoulder joint and the hip of the horse is 122 cm, the length of the forearm 46 47 cm, the length of the carpal bones 31 cm and the angle of the shoulder joint 99 °. Furthermore, the work shows that the higher the horse's performance, the less the dimensions were different, and thus the front legs were more similar. And the biggest differences are between performance horses L and ST or L and S, while the performance class horses at S and ST level are not so striking.

Dvořáková, Karolína ; Kalenda, Ondřej (advisor) ; Murtinová, Eva (referee)
In this thesis we study the topologies formed by a modification of some given topology using ideals - we focus on localizable and strongly localizable ideals. In the first chapter we use a certain set mapping to define ideal topology, then we show its relation to the initial topology. Next we investigate what properties the elements of ideal obtains in the new topology, for example on certain conditions the ideal becomes exactly the set of all nowhere dense sets in the ideal topology. Finally, we show when the new topology is regular and formulate necessary and sufficient conditions for a set with ideal topology to be a Baire space. In the second chapter we apply the results on concrete examples of ideals and topologies defined by them.
