Increase in muscle mass during remission in patients with Crohn's disease
Dittrichová, Jana ; Křížová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Šatný, Martin (referee)
Pacients with Crohn's disease lose a significant amount of muscle mass during the acute phase. The amount of muscle mass plays a crucial role in determining an individual's physical fitness, quality of life, and improves the prognosis of the disease. The theoretical part of the presented work focuses on the importance of muscle mass, its growth in relation to protein intake, the issues related to Crohn's disease, and the increase of muscle mass during remission. In the practical part of the study, the goal was to determine how many kilograms patients with Crohn's disease typically lose during the acute phase of the illness and compare it with the weight loss in patients with ulcerative colitis. The aim was also to verify the impact of protein intake education and recommendations for the frequency and type of exercise on muscle mass growth, increased muscle strength, and walking speed in patients with Crohn's disease. In the practical part, it was found that patients with Crohn's disease lose between 11.79 to 16.29 kg during the acute phase of the illness. In the study with education, each participant underwent two measurements with an interval of 4-6 weeks. The parameters examined included the amount of muscle mass, a 4-meter walking test, and handgrip strength. After the first measurement,...
Use of animal models in the study of the mechanisms of subjective tinnitus.
Dittrichová, Jana ; Tureček, Rostislav (advisor) ; Kašík, Petr (referee)
Tinnitus, phantom hearing sensation, is one of the major audiological disorders affecting a significant proportion of the human population. However, the mechanisms underlying this condition remain unclear. Animal models represent an important tool in the investigation of the pathogenesis of hearing diseases. The present bachelor thesis reviews the most important findings on the possibilities of detecting tinnitus in laboratory animals, especially rats and mice, its neural correlates in the mammalian auditory system, as well as the risk factors that lead to its development and maintenance. It was found that the most common causes of tinnitus are sensorineural hearing loss induced by exposure of animals to excessive noise or ototoxic agents, as well as their genetic predisposition. These factors cause maladaptive changes in the central auditory pathway that are likely responsible for the chronic course of the disease. The changes found include, in particular, hyperactivity of neurons of the auditory nuclei of the brainstem and increased synchrony in the area of the primary auditory cortex. Using animal models, it was also found that a significant proportion of the observed pathophysiological changes result from attenuated GABAergic inhibition in the auditory pathway. This suggested a direction for...
The End of Neoplatonic Academy and the Journey of the Philosophers to Persia in Modern Scholarship
Dittrichová, Jana ; Prchlík, Ivan (advisor) ; Bakyta, Ján (referee)
The year 529 is the year of the closure of the Neoplatonic Academy. Being closed by emperor Justinian, it is considered one of the milestones of the end of the Classical Antiquity. This thesis presents the sources which are concerned with the closure of the school and corresponding journey of the neoplatonic philosophers to Perisa and back. It must be stated that none of the sources in focus is explicit about the 529 AD events. The purpose of the work is to present opinions of modern scholars upon the legal act of the closure of this school, as accepted by the mainstream theory. It focuses on the meaning of the word diadochika, on the contemporaneous state of the Academy and on the issue of the destination of the philosophersʼ journey back from Persia. Diadochika appears to be the financial source for the Academy. As for the legal act of the closure of the Academy, the two major sources are the Chronographia of Malalas and the Laws of Justinian. However, these two sources do not agree in all points. It is vital to reconcile the two, with reference to the third source, the report of the historian Agathias of the philosophers' departure to Persia and also with reference to archaeological sources. As for the contemporaneous state of the Academy, the opinion prevails that it was not in decline. Modern scholars...
The Influence of a Lifestyle of Women with Anamnesis of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus on Manifestation of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2
Dittrichová, Jana ; Anderlová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Krejčí, Hana (referee)
1 Abstract: The present thesis is focused on a lifestyle of women with anamnesis of Gestational Diabetes and on the way in which this lifestyle influences manifestation of Type 2 Diabetes. The goal of the thesis is to describe the ways in which women with anamnesis of Gestational Diabetes in the period 1-11 years after delivery behave preventively in order that Type 2 Diabetes would not occur - to describe their diet and movement activities as well as to discover, if they have their blood sugar level checked regularly. By means of questionnaire survey, it has been discovered that women with anamnesis of Gestational Diabetes consume not-sweetened beverages, coffee, vegetable and fruits, on the other hand it would be convenient, if they would eliminate secondary processed food, red meat, sweets and fried meal and increase intake of nuts, fish and cereals. 83 % of women engage in a movement activity at least 3 times a week. 52 % had come for blood sugar level examination (oGTT) after delivery and another 12 % had their blood sugar level checked during regular medical examination. Nevertheless, many respondents are not regularly monitored anymore. Women with anamnesis of Gestational Diabetes, in the case of which blood sugar level examination (oGTT) detected Prediabetes or Type 2 Diabetes, consume too much...
