He is described as a folk writer and a gifted public narrator. Stejskalová, Tereza ; Brožová, Věra (advisor) ; Hník, Ondřej (referee)
This bachelor's thesis concentrates on building and projection of literary space in literature for children and youth. This work has literary interpretive character and the interpretation is based on theoretical works devoted to literary space. This thesis is divided in two parts. First part covers the theoretical conception of literary space and is focused mainly on the area of literary topology. Second part is focused on interpretation of individual pieces (The Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren, The Neverending Story by Michael Ende, Through a Glass, Darkly by Jostein Gaarder, Prince and the Lark by Valja Stýblová). The choice of interpreted books is based on the literary space. Pieces that form the representative sample of possible spaces were chosen. The selection is also limited by the topic the books are addressing. Topics are connected by introducing serious issues of human life to children. This work is devoted to the question, how are these topics projected to literary space and how does the space support them. This work concludes that represented topics are significantly projected in the literary space in these pieces and that the literary space supports their importance, or it alleviates their eeriness.
Function of Fanciful Motives in Present Czech Literature for Children
Havlová, Jana ; Brožová, Věra (advisor) ; Klumparová, Štěpánka (referee)
In my thesis paper entitled "The Function of Fanciful Motives in Present Czech Literature for Children" I begin by theoretically exploring the problems of fantasy literature and fantasy motifs. I then discuss the lives and work of various authors and focus on an analysis of their literary works with child heroes and fantasy motifs. I have selected texts for interpretation on the basis of the following conditions: the books are specifically intended for children and adolescents; the stories have a realistic level and the fantasy area is somehow part of this; the fantasy world is logically incorporated into the fictional world corresponding to our everyday experiences and this imaginary world therefore applies to real life; the fantasy motifs serve a specific function; and the fantasy motifs appear as an equal element to the realistic ones. The following works in particular are examined in this thesis paper: Emma and the Magic Book by Petra Braunová, Gabriela's Magic World by Pavel Brycz, The Enchanted Classroom by Ivona Březinová, Lenka and Nelka or AHA by Daniela Fischerová, The Magic Saturdays by Miloš Kratochvíl, Ghosts from Nerudova Street by Ivana Vostřáková and the books Wednesday Tastes Good, The Main Victory, The Owl's Song, Jožin goes to Africa, Eliáš and the Grandma from the Egg, Where has...

- Aj In this work we focused on the literary genre of the fantastic short story, a genre that has its specific features, working with mystery and ambiguity, and relying on the interactive relationship between the reader and the text. We looked at terms fantastic literature, fantastic short story and we studied which attributes are typical for this literature (such as individual motifs, composition, atmosphere and language-specific resources). Than we were looking for the presence of these attributes in individual works of selected authors. The most important representatives of Czech fantastic stories were compared with selected German Romanticists who were the inception for our authors who followed them and in whose work we find the fantastic phenomena. Then we tracked the similarities and differences in work of these authors. We found, that despite substantial conformity in the use of specific attributes of fantastic stories, the individual works of our authors differs significantly, not only in the frequency of use of these attributes, but also in the overall tone of the work and its effect on the reader. To better understand all the work, we have included in addition to the parts of the works and typically observed phenomena, the key biographical details of all authors, because as it was finally...

Resume The thesis deals with monitoring image of handicapped person in present Czech literature for children and youth. It involves creation from the 90th of the 20th century. Its aim is focusing on selected representative works of various authors and identifies the way of inclusion the physical, mental and social handicap. Selected works are different, they vary in genre, approach to disability and also in age of target readers. The reasons for this diversity is capture the range of options to solve this task as clearly as possible. The primary aspect is in particular literary and aesthetic, but the thesis also affects the emerging elements of educational, moral and ethical. It is engaged in construction of the main character and other characters, while the deciding recognition of differences is when the main character has handicap and on the other hand when handicap is viewed from a distance. In this diversity is also important the narrative perspective, that with their variations can lead to emphasize the heart of disabled person and his own emotionality, or more likely monitor the interaction of handicapped individual with world and other people. The thesis also investigates, whether there are any genre clichés, such superficially happy ending, or over-idealization of characters and considers modelling...
