Everyday life of the gendarme in Bohemia in the first half of the 20th century

This diploma thesis is focused on forms of everyday life of gendarmers in the first half of the twentieth century in Bohemia. The main goal of the thesis is to show the specifics of the gendarmerie profession in comparison with everyday life of normal population. The applied methods are based on established approaches of everyday life research and also on normative- comparative method. The historical sources come mainly from archive but the memoirs of gendarmers and members of their families were used as well. There are analysed gendarme service, their family life and leisure time and finally social and health care in three main thematic parts. The everyday life of married and unmarried gendarmers is researched separately (always in connection with gendarm service).

To the history of administration of district gendarmerie commands in the area of gendarmerie department Benešov u Prahy in the interwar period and during Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia

This diploma thesis focuses on administration developement of five district gendarmerie commands (Benešov, Český Brod, Vlašim, Jílové u Prahy, Říčany u Prahy) which were a part of gendarmerie departement Benešov u Prahy during 1918-1945. The aim of the work is to introduce their form and activities within the whole gendarmerie organization in the Czech lands and try to explain their specifics if there were any. There is emphasise on personalities and careers of district gendarmerie commanders. After introducing character and history of administration since half of the nineteenth century till 1945 there is a chapter which concerns on historical developement of Benešov, Vlašim, Český Brod, Jílové and Říčany regions especially during 1918-1945. On the basis of that there will be described and evaluated the command of gendarmerie departement Benešov and five district gendarmerie commands. This thesis is based on comparative, normative-comparative method with an application of some sociological and psychological approaches. The institute of district gendarmerie commanders appeared before 1918 but they were no officers until the establishment of Czechoslovakia. To the Historical Development and Documents of Gendarmerie Stations in Čerčany and Červený Újezd in the First Half of the 20th Century

Presented bachelor thesis intends to introduce the history of gendarmerie stations in Čerčany and Červený Újezd in the context of development of Czechoslovakian gendarmerie during the years 1918 - 1945. The thesis is divided to four chapters. The first chapter evaluates contemporary literature and available sources to the questions of gendarmerie, with special emphasis on gendarmerie stations. Second chapter summarizes development of gendarmerie and its organisation, personnel question, education and service in 1918-1945 period. In the third chapter there is brief look on the history of municipalities Čerčany and Červený Újezd, particularly in the period of existence of local gendarmerie stations. Heart of this work is the fourth chapter, which contains information about history of the stations, its personnel and activities in the period under consideration.
