Volatility modeling : evidence from CEE stock markets
Brabcová, Eva ; Baruník, Jozef (advisor) ; Bubák, Vít (referee)
The thesis applies newly developed heterogenous autoregressive model of realized volatility on high frequency data of three stock market indices: Prague, Budapest and Warsaw with the aim to capture behavior of three different market participants and to quantify their role in forecasting daily realized volatility. Also, the presence of jumps in volatility is investigated and the predictive power assessed. In addition, wavelet analysis is used to detect periods and frequencies of comovements between the three indices. The main contribution of the thesis lies especially in its primary empirical analysis conducted in CEE region. The estimation results indicate that future realized volatility is determined very similarly in all markets with an insignificant impact of participants trading on monthly basis. Moreover, occurrence of a jump proves to be of a high relevance when predicting future volatility. Moreover, wavelet analysis indicates a strong degree of comovement at a frequency of few months across the whole period examined.
Though mothers versus nannies: media presentation of institution of domestic workers in Czech Republic
Brabcová, Eva ; Ezzeddine, Petra (advisor) ; Uhde, Zuzana (referee)
Absract This master thesis deals with an analysis of media discourse of domestic workers in the Czech Republic. The work was based on discourse analysis of media articles generated by Anopress, which is a professional supplier of media monitoring. Through analyzing the way how media portrays institution of domestic workers, the paper tries to point out the media discourse that produces an image of domestic workers as an attractive products and organization of domestic work as a mediator for balancing public and private lives of women. Through concepts of feminist research I am going to try to prove that the media discourse is based on essentialist and discriminatory practices that have a major impact on shaping the image of institution of domestic workers and actors who are connected with this institution. Since this is a media production of information's construction thus it has a significant influence on the conceptualization of institutions of domestic workers in public sphere. Keywords: rental housework, domestic workers, media discourse, discourse analysis

Caspase inhibitors and regulation of the IL-1 family cytokines
Brabcová, Eva ; Stříž, Ilja (advisor) ; Holáň, Vladimír (referee)
Proinflammatory cytokines from IL-1 family play a key role in immune and immunopathological reactions and are involved also in initial phases of rejection mechanisms. One of their multiple functions is the induction of chemokines attracting immune cells into the site of injury. The aim of our study was to assess the effect of proinflammatory cytokines on the chemokine release and mRNA induction in epithelial cell lines of renal and lung origin. Furthermore, we tested the effect of caspase-1 inhibitors isolated from Streptomyces nodus (manumycin, asukamycin, MM273) on the release of IL-1 beta and IL-18 from human macrophages. These cytokines are cleaved into their active form by caspase-1 and inihibtion of the enzyme activity might be a perspective therapeutical approach to reduce inflammatory reaction. In our experimental model, we used cell line derived from renal adenocarcinoma (RA), A549 cell line (alveolar type II-like cells), and THP-1 monocyte/macrophage cell line. Chemokine mRNA induction was evaluated by an oligoarray and chemokine and cytokine levels were measured by Luminex or ELISA technology. Our data have showed that both epithelial cell lines produced constitutively mainly CXC chemokines attracting neutrophils (CXCL5/ENA-78, CXCL8/IL-8) and some of the CC chemokines characteristic for the...
The Influence of the Country of Origin on Consumer Perceptions of the Food Quality: Focus on the Czech-Polish Relations
Brabcová, Eva ; Olšanová, Květa (advisor) ; Hinčica, Vít (referee)
The main issue of this bachelor thesis focuses on the impact of the country of origin on the consumers' perception of food quality. The aim of the thesis is to explain this phenomenon and determine whether the young consumers are affected by the poor quality food imported from Poland. The first part summarizes theoretical background of the importance of brand on consumers' purchase decision making and so called Country of origin effect. The importance of the perception of the image of a given country is explained by the Anholt's matrix. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the Czech - Polish relations. The questionnaire survey led to the clarification of the assumption that the pre-selected target group is influenced by the country of origin.
Czech-Spanish and Spanish-Czech printed dictionaries
BRABCOVÁ, Eva
The theme of this Bachelor thesis is the description of the Czech-Spanish and Spanish-Czech printed dictionaries. The work is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part we dealt with the form and the content of bilingual dictionaries, with its macrostructure and microstructure. In the second part which is practical we analyzed selected Czech-Spanish and Spanish-Czech dictionaries and we compared its elements of structure. After the analysis of each dictionary we mentioned the evaluation of the dictionary. At the end of the work we summarized the evaluations. We mainly used the dictionaries containing commonly used vocabulary. Smaller part of the analyzed dictionaries is focused on economic vocabulary.
