Names of contemporary professions in healthcare

The presented thesis describes the typology of current names of professions in healthcare in terms of onomasiology and structural-morphology. The starting point of the thesis is the existing professional linguistic description of naming structures implemented as one-word names and nominal collocations. The language material consists of the names of professions in healthcare that are currently used. The names are classified in terms of word-formation, lexical semantics and the origin of words.

Czech speleologists speech

The presented bachelor thesis, titled Czech speleologists speech, is focused on the language expressions of the amateur speleologists throughout the Czech Republic. It contains a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part outlines issues of the examining of the slang and describes the ways of the slang vocabulary enrichment. In the practical part the theoretical knowledge is aplied on the language material acquired by a questionnaire method from the active members of Czech Speleological Society. The bachelor thesis also draws from the Internet, and magazine articles. As a part of the thesis, there is a small dictionary of slang of this interest group.

Linguistic aspects of the information science in the application of the recent technical language with emphasis on anatomical terminology

Although anatomical terminology is in use for more than 2000 years, its first official publication achieved in 1895. The need for development of cogent nomenclature arose due to the high level of synonyms labeling individual anatomical structures. Thus towards the end of the 19th century existed more then 50 000 terms describing approximately 5 000 known structures at that time. Such synonymity caused and still causes chaos, especially in the research activities field. The reason for this is fact that most of the research performed not directly by medical field specialists but also information field specialists does not respect the historical evolution of terms. More, it mixes them according to different issues of the official terminologies. Also, further making the research activity complicated is wrong use of anatomical terms, lack of knowledge and misuse of latine grammary and last but not least americanization of the latine terms. Another hot topic is non existence of the official Czech anatomical terminology. This leads to increased tendency of neologisms formation which in turn causes increase of synonymities. Analysis of understanding words of Czech pupils

Summary: This bachelor's thesis deals with vocabulary of pupils of younger school age, factually of their understanding of the word meanings of these special words. The theoretical part of this thesis intents on vocabulary development of a child in scope of language development from his/her birth till their younger school age and on internal and external factors that influence them during this development. Also an access to vocabulary growth during school teaching and a connection of initial reading literacy are referred. In practical part of this thesis there was analyzed the extent of the understanding of chosen words, the influence of the type of school (the school in the city, town and village) and the extent of the change of the word understanding after putting them into concrete context (it was made in the scope of the concrete sample, at first at the base of the questionnaire result). Then there was found out on the principle of the second part of the research, in what situations pupils meet these unknown words, how they behave when the meet them and whether they are instructed about the meanings of them.

Internationalization of Czech sport vocabulary

This bachelor thesis deals with an attempt to define and characterize an usage of internationalisms within the contemporary athletic word-stock. Based on materials excerpted from selected journalistic and special texts, this thesis describes semantics of loandwords, their formation, markedness and writing validity and etymological origin. Other aim of the thesis is to verify the hypotesis about the relation of the time of loan of the selected word between the degree of the adaptation and between the origin language.

Contemporary Czech Neologisms Reflecting Social Networks

This bachelor thesis discusses the neologism that has appeared on social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). The first part of this thesis summarizes and classifies the finding of relevant literature, describes lexical units and defines terms as neologism, neosemanticism, loan word and social network. The second part include semantic and word-forming analysis of found neologism with special attention to loan neologism and its adaption. The thesis is materially based on social networks, articles about social networks and the database NEOMAT. The conclusion summarizes results of the research. The appendix of this thesis includes the list of new found lexical items, a table of frequency of found neologism and links of used articles.

Opposition "homo - animal" in language. Contribution to the Czech linguistic picture of the world

This diploma thesis aims to contribute to the research of the Czech language picture of the world. It is based on fundamental theoretical and methodological resources of cognitive and cultural linguistics and focuses on the opposition of "man - animal", or "human - animal", in the Czech language, aiming to illustrate the way in which zooappellatives (animal names) relate to the reality of the human world. The most extensive part of the thesis is based mainly on an analysis of Czech dictionary material (etymological, reference, synonym and phraseological dictionaries), as well as comparing the scientific (biological) classification of animals to the categorization in natural language. In regard to the category ANIMAL, the thesis establishes four basic domains constituting the category's conceptual model (framework): "the place where the animal lives", "physical traits", "the animal's behaviour" and "relation to man". The thesis also includes questionnaire-based research that focuses on analysing the way in which speakers of the Czech language understand the category ANIMAL, and attempts to determine whether they regard some animals as more protypical than others.

Indication of female gender in new names of professions

The bachelor's thesis Indication of Female Gender in New Names of Professions is divided into two parts. The first one describes the indication of female gender in linguistics theory and presents main suffixes used for the indication of female gender. The second part tracks occurrence of the expressions excerpted from the vocabulary Nová slova v češtině 1 a 2 and the article Pojmenování nových profesí u pozic v oblasti ekonomiky a podnikání (v rusko- českém srovnávacím plánu) by Ljuba Mrověcová (2009). The expressions were searched for in the corpus SYN 2010 and Neomat database. Lists of names, both found and not found in the sources mentioned above follow. The meaning of less known names is explained in the alphabetical vocabulary.

Quantitative Characteristics of Terms

The new method of automatic term recognition TERMIT is focused not only on the high number of correctly labeled terms, but also on the most important attributes of a term (in terms of their role in automatic term identification process). The method is based on data mining, i.e. finding meaningful information in very large corpus data. It was able to both successfuly identify terms in academic texts and find constitutive features of a term as a terminological unit. The single-word term (SWT) can be characterized as a word with a low frequency in corpus (SYN2010) that occurs considerably more often in specialized texts of a given field than in non-academic texts, occurs in a small number of academic disciplines, its distribution in the corpus (SYN2010) is uneven as is the distance between its two instances. The multi-word term (MWT) is a stable collocation consisting of words with low frequency and contains at least one (and often more) single-word term. Based on the characteristics of SWT and MWT, it is possible to classify individual tokens in texts as terms or non-terms with a success rate of more than 95 %.
