Division of Europe with the use of GIS
Burešová, Daniela ; Hudeček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bláha, Jan Daniel (referee)
Division of Europe using GIS Abstract This work focuses on theoretical and practical division of Europe into parts using GIS. The main scope of this work is using the program ArcMap to define the region of Europe and then to divide it into parts. An important sources are background research of literature which found different types of dividing the continent, and the underlying data ESRI. Geographic distribution of map of Europe was made on the basis of identified types of division. The main criterion by which Europe is divided was the total area of the continent and individual countries. Just based on the area the correlation analysis showed the appropriateness or inappropriateness of labeling different parts of the continent, from the geographical point of view. The result of the work are maps outputs that shows the differences and similarities in each division and used terms. The newly created maps are confronted and compared with original maps. Keywords: Division of Europe, ArcGIS, Geographical median
Cultural Aspects of Cartographic Creation: Use of Mental Maps in Cross-cultural Research
Bláha, Jan Daniel ; Soukup, Martin (referee)
Cultural Aspects of Cartographic Creation: Use of Mental Maps in Cross-cultural Research Abstract: Diploma thesis deals with study of interdisciplinary issue of cultural aspects of cartographic creation. The first part of the work consists of theoretical introduction dealing with the map content, map stylistics and map language, in which maps show the greatest cultural differences. The map figures here in a role of the image of reality and visual manifestation of culture. The analogy between a map and a classical language (linguistic anthropology) and the analogy between early maps and primitive cultures' maps are described. Beside the language, as determinants of the human spatial perception and other categories related to the map creation could be mentioned the environment, the experiences and the society, in which man lives. Several examples of so-called cultural map styles, especially from Australia and Oceania, are introduced as well. In the methodical part of the work in connection with cultural-anthropological research a method of cognitive maps, respectively mental maps of map users and map makers is discussed in detail. Just these maps are suitable to explore the cultural particularities of cartographic creation. The application part of the work presents the results of field research of mental maps...
Study of structure and interaction of human lymphocyte receptors
Bláha, Jan
Natural killer (NK) cells are an essential part of immune system, providing self-surveillance of virally infected, stress transformed or cancerous cells. NKR-P1 receptors and their ligands from clec2 gene family represent an alternate missing-self recognition system of NK cells based on interaction of highly related C-type lectin-like receptors. Human NKR-P1 has been described more than twenty years ago but still remains the sole human orthologue of this receptor family, particularly numerous in rodents. On binding to its cognate ligand LLT1, NKR-P1 can relay inhibitory or co-stimulatory signals. Although being interesting targets for their potential role in tumor immune evasion and autoimmunity, nature of their interaction is still unclear. To elucidate the architecture of their interaction, we developed a generally applicable method for recombinant expression of human NKR-P1 and LLT1 and their homologues based on transfection of HEK293S GnTI- cells. Further, we described a stabilizing mutation His176Cys, that enables for expression of highly stable and soluble LLT1. Finally, we have crystallized LLT1 and human NKR-P1 in different glycosylation states both as individuals and in complex. While both structures of LLT1 and NKR-P1 follow the classical C-type lectin-like superfamily fold, contrary to...
Opioids in caesarean section
Nosková, Pavlína ; Bláha, Jan (advisor) ; Málek, Jiří (referee) ; Vymazal, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis is focused on perioperative use of opioids during caesarean section. The general part is concerned with pharmacology of opioids due to their practical use during general and regional anaesthesia and postoperative analgesia with particular focus on remifentanil. Emphasis is put on the placental transfer of opioids into breast milk which has the possible influence on postnatal adaptation of the newborns and breastfeeding/lactation. The first part of the research describes current anaesthetic practice and opioid use in obstetrics in the Czech Republic according to the OBAAMA-CZ study in 2011. The second study on a unique group of 151 parturients showed that bolus application of remifentanil at a dose of 1 μg/kg at the time of 30 seconds before induction of general anaesthesia for caesarean section significantly stabilizes maternal hemodynamic parameters (blood pressure, heart rate) and reduces the stress response to tracheal intubation and skin incision. On the contrary, no influence on depth of anaesthesia (monitored by BIS) was found. But we demonstrated a slight effect of remifentanil on the assessment of postnatal adaptation of newborns at first minute after delivery. However, this attenuation was very short and in the fifth minute the results were already fully comparable to the control...
Students' successfulness and strategies when working with a map and factors affecting them
Havelková, Lenka ; Hanus, Martin (advisor) ; Knecht, Petr (referee) ; Bláha, Jan Daniel (referee)
Nowadays, information is increasingly presented in the form of various graphic materials. One of the key means of information visualisation is a map. Maps are complex representations and it is necessary to comprehend several cartographic concepts and to acquire skills and strategies for their efficient use. For this reason, it is important to give maps sufficient attention in the course of education. For the education to be of high quality, it is fundamental to understand the process of the map use and factors affecting this process and its successfulness. Therefore, the general purpose of the dissertation thesis is to develop this understanding. Specifically, the thesis has four main aims. One of them is to identify a map skill level of Czech students while using thematic maps since the popularity of thematic maps is increasing together with the number of cartographic insufficiencies they contain. These insufficiencies can inter alia cause a formation of misconceptions both about the maps and phenomena and regions they display. The second main aim is to identify and describe strategies that students choose to solve tasks which require the use of a thematic map. Additionally, the sub-aim is to understand the influence of chosen factors on the level of map skills as well as on choice and efficiency...
Application of augmented reality in maintenance of production machines
Blaha, Jan ; Kroupa, Jiří (referee) ; Tůma, Zdeněk (advisor)
The master's thesis deals with the design of an augmented reality application for production machine maintenance. The thesis consists of two parts: the theoretical and the design part. The first part of the thesis summarizes the subject matter of augmented reality from a general point of view. It also includes an overview of leading manufacturers. The practical part of the thesis deals with application design. It contains the thought process from the database creation to the final prototype. Several possible solutions are listed, and the most suitable one is selected. The conclusion of the thesis contains a discussion of the results obtained, and practical recommendations for future uses.
Influence of crystalloid and colloid solutions on blood coagulation using the rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) method
Binterová, Silvie ; Durila, Miroslav (advisor) ; Vaněk, Tomáš (referee) ; Bláha, Jan (referee)
Fluid resuscitation with crystalloid and colloid solutions is a common treatment in perioperative medicine. However, a variety of unbalanced or balanced solutions is used in clinical practice and there is still a vivid debate going on regarding the selection of optimal fluid with minimal negative effect on coagulation. The goal of the dissertation was to investigate the adverse effect of balanced crystalloids and colloids on whole blood coagulation measured by method of rotational thromboelastometry. In the first phase of the work we had assessed the adverse effect of balanced crystalloid, hydroxyethyl starch and gelatin after dilution of blood with the solution in vitro. Parametrs of EXTEM and FIBTEM tests were evaluated by using rotational thromboelastometry. In the second phase of the work we evaluated the negative effect of infusion solution after dilution in vivo. We had obtained blood samples from 30 patients during knee arthroscopy before and after administration of 500 ml of crystalloid or hydroxyethyl starch or gelatin. Parametrs of EXTEM and FIBTEM tests were evaluated by using rotational thromboelastometry. In compliance with the results of the dissertation, hydroxyethyl starch has the most obvious negative effect on clot formation followed by gelatin and finally by crystalloids. Based on...
