The development of the national security policy of the USA and source of its identity between 1989 and 2008

Uplynulých 20let je obdobím, během něhož se vystřídaly tři administrativy amerických prezidentů: George H. Walker Bush, William Jefferson Clinton a George Walker Bush jr. Přesněji řečeno, hovoříme zde o dvou republikánských administrativách a jedné demokratické administrativě. V této práci bych rád popsal vývoj zdroje národní zahraničně-politické identity Spojených států na pozadí Národní bezpečnostní strategie v období mezi roky 1989 a 2008. Rámcově zde tak hovoříme přibližně o dvou dekádách, ve vývoji zahraniční politiky USA především v její bezpečnostní podobě.

Esperanto in Czechoslovakia in 1945-1970

Thesis provides a picture of the Esperanto movement in Czechoslovakia after World War II until the beginning of normalization in light of the central Esperanto periodicals. This period penetrated the existence SE CSR, era of sustained esperantismus by the young Esperantists and Esperantist the defenders of peace and finally Esperanto authority of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Committee of the Czechoslovak Esperanto. In the thesis are highlighted functional and organizational aspects of Esperanto movement, key events and characterized Esperanto interesting events (eg. Summer School of Esperanto). For a more comprehensive picture of Esperantist history, the movement of Czechoslovak Esperantist in the World Congress of Esperanto and the equally interesting relationship of the Esperanto and League of Nations are mentioned. American Think Tanks on the Example of the Case Study on Washington Institute for the Near East Policy

This study deals with the phenomenon of think tanks in the United States. These organizations are broadly defined as public policy research institutes and are part of the non-profit, non-governmental organizations sector. However, this is to a great extend only theory. As this study brings to light, the field o f think tanks is not only vast in their number but as well in number and variety of subjects of their interests, the way how they approach them and the biases and influences that affect them on this way. The purpose o f the whole study was to put theoretical research o f think tanks, which is covered in its first part, together with a practical and concrete deep analysis o f a single institution o f this kind, covered in the case study on the Washington Institute for the Near East Policy (WINEP). This W ashington D.C. based think tank was chosen as a subject of the case study for several significant reasons. These included that it is a single issue and single-region oriented think tank with a potential big impact on American foreign policy-making in the chosen field o f its research. Obrysy Strednej Európy boli vždy variabilně a měnili sa podPa panujúceho politického ovzdušia. Každé duchovné hnutie definovalo hranice tohto subkontinentu (imaginárně i reálne zároveň) svojim vlastným spósobom- právě preto nepředstavuje Středná Európa nič definitívneho, ale vyžaduje od nás naopak schopnost' nahliadať jej entitu etapovo. O to viac pre nás platí toto pravidlo v momente, ak sa rozhodneme zaoberať sa SE ako specifickou entitou formulovanou stredoeurópskou intelektuálnou debatou 80. rokov. Aby mohlo naše snaženie nadobudnúť pozitivny obsah, je nevyhnutné postúpiť od púheho deklamovania, sentimentalizovania a zahovárania (črt charakteristických pre celú citovo vypátú debatu) ku věcnému a tvrdému skúmaniu skutočného odkazu historicky existujúcej SE.108 Nanovo sa vyskytujúci pojem SE poskytoval v 80. rokoch spoločnú platformu politicky umlčaných štátov, bol pre nich jedinečnou možnosťou, ako sa ozvat' a upozornit' na seba vo vzdialenom a nedostupnom Západe. Jej ciel' ( explicitne přednesený v Kunderovej eseji) bol poskytnúť určitý katalyzátor reflexie celého európskeho dedičstva, ukázat', že prináležitosť ku politickému Východu nebola historickou danosťou, ale určitou formou zrady Západu. War: persons and characters. Who wages war in western political-philosophical tradition

Válka je konstantou dosud známých dějin Západu. Konstantní ale není její podoba ani podoba jejích aktérů. Abychom porozuměli místu války v západní tradici (a potažmo i v našich životech), je třeba mimo jiné snažit se porozumět proměnám těchto aktérů. Tedy vedle těch, kdo ve válkách bojují, a těch, proti kterým je vedena (a dále také těch, kteří jsou jejími pasivními objekty - civilistů), také proměnám těch, kteří války vedou, rozhodují o válkách, vyhlašují je a ukončují. Předkládaná práce si vybrala právě tyto poslední aktéry válek. Na úvod začněme dvěma ne snad definicemi, ale pracovními vymezeními. Válkou rozumíme stav násilného a více či méně organizovaného a většinou rovněž ozbrojeného potýkání mezi dvěma společenskými celky vyvolaný vzájemně se vylučující (ať už skutečně či domněle) mocenskou či symbolickou aspirací. Tím, kdo vede válku, rozumíme osobu nebo kolektivní entitu, která má moc (nikoli nutně pravomoc) rozhodnout či případně rozhodovat o válčení toho kterého společenského celku. Může či nemusí splývat s tím, kdo válčí (rytířstvo), nebo dokonce s celým společenským celkem (třída, hnutí), za nějž rozhoduje. Klíčovou otázkou práce je, jak se proměňoval tento rozhodnutí činící subjekt války, jaké měl v jednotlivých svých podobách charakteristiky, zda jsou v něčem shodné a v čem se naopak...

Language and National Identity. The Case of Language Policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The main objective of the thesis: "Language and National Identity. The Case of Language Policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina" is to demonstrate how language has been used as an instrument of national identity formation - ethnic or territorial - on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is achieved by the description of laws, foremost constitutions, concerning the use of language and by putting these laws into the context of the debate on the relationship between language and national identity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the principal assumptions in the thesis is that this debate is closely linked to a similar one which was developing in former (socialist) Yugoslavia and even in the 19th century. The thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter one introduces the theoretical framework for the description of the language-national identity relationship. It defines the concept of nation, nationalism and national identity, their division into ethnic and territorial and describes the influence of language on development of such identities, especially in the case of language-based ethnic nations. Memory, narrative and politics

In this paper I will analyze contemporary politics of memory on the basis of their temporal orientation face to face to the end of history. I will follow on the one hand theories of perception of time in regards of social dimension of an agent's identity of Henri Bergson and Jean-Paul Sartre applied on Pierre Nora's work, and on the other hand I will try to join those philosophical concepts with Ricouer's and MacIntyre's narrative approach. This theoretical base will subsequently allow me to elaborate on political temporality oriented to the sacred eternity, to the future or to the past and confront it with the hypothesis of the end of history as conceptualized by Francis Fukuyama. Politics of memory gains in this classification a peculiar status - being oriented either towards the past denying the end of history, or oriented towards diffused individualized future. The second type of politics of memory aims to heal society from history, still present in painful memory, and support establishing of post-historic reality. Paradoxically, I will argue, both types of politics of memory allow history in Fukuyma's sense to pass the threshold.

Antisemitism in France - current debate and its roots

v českém jazyce není součástí práce. Úryvek z Úvodu: V první části se budu věnovat nejprve různým definicím pojmu "antisemitismus" a úskalím, které s jeh o používáním souvisejí. Následně představím ve stručnosti historické proměny protižidovské nenávisti od křesťanského antíjudaismu po popírání holocaustu a závěrem se zamyslím nad fenoménem "nového antisemitismu". Druhá část je zaměřena na dějiny vzájemného "stýkání a potýkání" Židů a francouzské společnosti, především v posledních dvou staletích. Zmíním se zde o bohatém ideovém dědictví francouzského antisemitismu, o jeho nejrůznějších proudech, formách a významných teoreticích i prakticích. Ve třetí části se pokouším interpretovat některá data ilustrující růst protižidovských útoků a nálad ve Francii v posledních letech. Pozornost věnuji v této souvislosti zvláště prostředí škol, které je podle některých pramenů antisemitismem také zasaženo. V závěru této části se zaměřím na to, jak toto klima ovlivnilo emigraci francouzských Židů do Izraele. Čtvrtá část předkládané práce je sondou do debaty o antisemitismu probíhající již pět let mezi francouzskými intelektuály, která výrazně rezonuje ve veřejném prostoru. Rozhodl jsem se vzájemně konfrontovat několik autorů, kteří do této debaty vnesli nejzajímavější myšlenky a tyto myšlenky z jejich hlavních...
