Border Changes between Italy and Yugoslavia after the Second World War
Susová, Petra ; Šístek, František (advisor) ; Žíla, Ondřej (referee)
The bachelor thesis called "Border Changes between Italy and Yugoslavia after the Second World War" deals with the post-war settlement in the Trieste region. It focuses on attitudes of Italian governmental and other representatives to this issue. The aim of this paper is to analyse their visions and to compare them with the real development. It covers mainly topics of the borders' drawing up, the possible establishment of Free Territory of Trieste, its administration including difficulties related to the unsuccessful nomination of the Governor and the road to the London Memorandum in 1954 as well. The bachelor thesis also analyses the international political development as well as the national Italian political situation which impacted Trieste matters. The campaign before general elections in 1948 affected the problems when the western allies promised Italy to integrate the area concerned to the republic to turn the election results in favour of democratic parties. Moreover, this paper analyses changes which happened after the Yugoslav-Soviet split and which had the impact on the solution of the Trieste question. It also follows difficult negotiations which lead to the end of problems between Italy and Yugoslavia concerning the Trieste region.
Central European Nostalgia and its role in creating the collective identity of Central Europe
Strejčková, Barbora ; Žíla, Ondřej (advisor) ; Vykoukal, Jiří (referee)
This thesis analyses the phenomenon of Central European nostalgia through essays by Milan Kundera and Yuri Andrukhovych. It examines the ways in which the nostalgic imaginations of the Central European space contribute to the creation of the collective identity of Central Europe. The first part of the thesis outlines the historical context of thinking about Central Europe, which is then used in the analysis of the examined texts. The second part deals with the method of the analysis and the theoretical background, the theory of nostalgia. It maps the academic debate concerning both nostalgia in general and Central European nostalgia in particular. In the following analytical part of the work, the method of critical discursive analysis is used to examine for what purposes and in what ways the authors in their essays relate nostalgically to Central Europe at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and how they construct Central European space through this narrative. The thesis argues that although the nostalgia of Kundera and Andrukhovych differs in its manifestations, both authors set their homeland in Central Europe through their nostalgia. In continuity with historical thinking, they anchor them in Europe itself. Nostalgia in the examined texts acts as a counter-discourse, a resistance to...

Perglová, Zdeňka ; Šístek, František (advisor) ; Žíla, Ondřej (referee)
The subject of this bachelor thesis is the reform of Kosovo police after 1999 and the role of international organizations NATO, UN, OSCE and EU, and their missions KFOR, UNMIK, OMiK and EULEX in this reform. The paper is divided into three parts - the first one explains the background of presence of UNMIK, EULEX and OMiK missions, and KFOR units in Kosovo. The second part is dedicated to the experience that UN, EU and OSCE have with police work and reform in hosting states. In the third part, the paper explores the actual reform of Kosovo's police force. It looks at the creation of Kosovo police school, cooperation of international organizations and transfer of responsibility between the analysed subjects. In closing the paper identifies the main problems which accompany the reform of Kosovo police, and answers questions about whether it established sufficient ethnical diversity in Kosovo police staff and which issues, if any, can be seen in the way that responsibilities were transferred.
The decline of Islamic radicalism in the Bosniak ethnic space at the turn of the millennium
Červenková, Romana ; Pikal, Kamil (advisor) ; Žíla, Ondřej (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with decline of Salafi and Wahhabi Islamic radicalism in the Bosniak ethnic space in 90s and in the beginning of 21st century. The area of interest in this thesis will be the Federation of Bosnia and Hercegovina, Brčko District, which is administrated by the Federation and Republika Srbska and Sandžak, which lies within the territory of Montenegro and Serbia. After brief introduction of theological basis and spreading mechanisms of analyzed radical movements, the author gives a detailed description of the boom of the Salafi movement in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war (1992-1995). The emphasis is put on the crucial role of foreign Islamic charities and Arabic warriors in spreading Islamic radicalism, whose controversial activities led to a mostly negative reaction of Bosniak citizens. The beginning of the decline of Islamic radicalism could be dated from 1995, when the Dayton Accords were signed and most of Salafi promoters left the country. The tragedy of 9/11 is considered to be a turning point, which caught not only Bosniaks' but also foreign writers' attention to Islamic radicalism. Event of paramount importance was an election victory of Turkish political party AKP in 2002, which led to a radical change of Turkish foreign policy, which began to aim its attention...

Zelba, Michal ; Žíla, Ondřej (advisor) ; Heler, Daniel (referee)
The bachelor thesis is dealing with the issue of landmines in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The explanation of current situation in the country and threats posed by landmines are emphasized. The analysis was chosen as a method of the research. The aim of the thesis was to find out how the mentioned issue influences local residents and why it has not been solved up to now. The historical context leading to the origin of the issue, as well as the approaches that are adopted in Bosnia and Herzegovina are presented in first two chapters. The last chapter reflects current situation and moreover it analyzes the results of the field research, which was based on questionnaire construction. The scale of impacts of landmine issue differs across the Bosnian society. Due to some complications (the reduction of international engagement, corruption, inefficiency of some deminers, general extent of the issue) the complete demining will not be fulfilled until 2019, as it was planned.
Emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Lens of Transnationalism: Bosnian Emigration Beyond the Brain Drain
Mrázková, Eva ; Chrzová, Barbora (advisor) ; Žíla, Ondřej (referee)
Name: Eva Mrázková Title: Emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Lens of Transnationalism: Bosnian Emigration Beyond the Brain Drain Abstract Although the topic of emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina is relevant and up-to-date, it has been not sufficiently covered in the literature yet. Both the media and academic works present the emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina as a process which causes a significant loss of workforce and qualified professionals to the country. This work aims to point out the often omitted participation of Bosnian Diaspora on the growth of the country and therefore contribute to the discourse about Bosnian emigration. To show this influence, the paper examines the Bosnian emigration through the lens of the concept of transnationalism. This paper questions what fields are influenced by Bosnian emigrants and how do they influence those spheres. Firstly, the paper introduces the concept of transnationalism and describes the development of emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to the events in the 21st century. Then it explores the characteristics of Bosnian Diaspora and the discourse about the Bosnian emigration in media and academic literature. Consequently, there are outlined particular fields that are influenced by Bosnian emigrants and practices by which...
