The status and role of the Scottish Office: development and transformations of the ministry for Scottish affairs in the context of devolution
Hubáčková, Kristina ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Riegl, Martin (referee)
The theme of this bachelor's thesis is the status and role of the British ministry for Scottish affairs (Scottish Office) and its development in the context of devolution. The work traces the history of the Scottish Office since its foundation in 1885 until its dissolution in 1999, while placing its dissolution into the context of the devolution process in the UK. The objective of the work is to answer the question of whether the Scottish Office acted as a representative of the interests of Scotland at any stage of its development, or whether it only represented the interests of the British Government during the entire period of its existence. In the context of the process of devolution, the work also addresses the Scotland Office, which replaced the Scottish Office after the implementation of devolution proposals in 1999. Based on an analysis and comparison of the activities of the Scottish Office and the Scotland Office, the author concludes that throughout its existence, the ministry for Scottish affairs represented only the interests of the British government in Scotland, and at no stage of its operation was it ever a representative of Scottish interests in the British government.

Kult, Jakub ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Říchová, Blanka (referee)
The theme of this thesis is strongly connected to its aim which is to distinguish and describe the causes of the rise of the United Kingdom Independence Party. The introduction provides us with the brief history of the party and its election results. The next step considers the classification of the UKIP which leads us to consideration that party does not match perfectly to any party group. Still the theoretical frame of populist radical right parties seems to be the most suitable for examining UKIP. According to assumptions of this theory it was plausible to determine potential causes of the rise of the UKIP: process of modernization, economic dimension, Euroscpeticism, crisis and populism, ethnic issue and immigration, authoritarian intentions, voting system, evolution of party competition and internal supply of UKIP. Final analytical part of this thesis is designated to evaluate each cause. The findings of this paper correspond to original hypotheses. Thesis comes to conclusion that the most important voters' motives to vote UKIP are their Eurosceptic, populist and anti-immigration attitudes. This clearly corresponds to party's own policies and presentation. While process of modernization and development in party competition created suitable environment for the rise of the party. Blaha, Aleš ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
This diploma thesis opens a new deep insight into the issue of electoral systems in Czech and Central European political science. The mid-point of this research is the electoral bias in the electoral system to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The electoral bias is researched on all general elections from 1996 until 2013. To find out the electoral bias I apply mathematical method created and used by professor Galina Borisyuk from University of Plymouth. This method is based on several mathematical methods used by the American and the British political scientists for decades. However, the new method created by Galina Borisyuk is the most convenient for many reasons. Mainly this method isn't necessarily connected with plurality majority system, which was essential variable so far. Second key attribute of this method is the possibility to apply it on the three party systems, which is important variable for our political system in the Czech Republic as well. In analytical part of this research I apply the new mathematical method in all elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Ascertained results are analysed in the conclusion together that I have set the feasible ways to develop a new path the research of bias in the future.
