Regional development of smoking-related mortality in the Czech Republic in 1994-2009

Regional development of smoking-related mortality in the Czech Republic in 1994-2009 Abstract This work deals with the development of mortality from smoking-related diseases in the Czech Republic and regions of the Czech Republic in 1994-2009. Analytical part assesses the development of mortality on selected groups of diagnoses or individual causes of death associated with smoking in the Czech Republic. For the regional analysis, six specific diagnoses with the largest share of the total intensity of mortality in the Czech Republic are chosen. The author concludes that the intensity of mortality from all diseases related to smoking decreased among both sexes in all regions, mainly due to decline in mortality from circulatory system diseases. There was observed opposed development of the intensity of mortality from the cause of malignant neoplasm of bronchus, trachea and lungs between the sexes, where there were reduced the level of mortality by men and increased by women. From the results of the analysis it is evident that the areas with the highest intensity of mortality related to smoking are in the north-western Bohemia. The thesis analyzes the illustrations and author books of Daisy Mrázková directed mainly to the children readers. The thesis puts this part of her artistic work in the context of her work as a whole as well as in the Czechoslovak artistic milieu from sixties till eighties. Detailed attention is paid to Daisy Mrázková's inspiration, her childhood and education, family life and relationship with her friends, especially those from the artistic group UB 12, and their influence on her work. The work also focuses on the influence of English children literature specifically due to the artist's family origin. Her illustrations and author books are compared to the books of the contemporary Czechoslovak fellow artists as well as her teachers and schoolmates. A significant part of the thesis describes and analyzes synesthesia, both in the artist own work as well as in the work of the Czech and foreign artists.
Věra Janoušková - "I sew the enamel sculptures like the scenes made from tatters" (textile collages and enamel sculptures)

ASTRACT: The thesis deals with textile collages and enamel sculptures and their mutual relation of a Czech sculptor Vera Janouskova, which have been made since forties till the first decade of 21th century. The first chapter focuses on biographical data and memories of Vera Janouskova, primarily aimed to facts important for the works in textile collages and enamel sculptures. The second chapter focuses on textile collages and begins with Roger Bissiere collages which inspired Vera Janouskova, continues with a detailed description of her three most known textile collages and presents a minor, not yet published textile collage hanging in Vera Janouskova studio. This chapter also analyses the terminology used for textile collages and tapistry. The third chapter, which is the most wide, deals with enamel sculptures. It begins with their categorisation based on their timing and topics they cover. Individual decades are initiated with a short information on the time period the groups of enamel sculptures were made in. Selected enamel sculptures are described in detail. Prior to the detailed analysis of the groups of enamel sculptures there are subchapters dedicated to the relation of Vera Janouskova enamel sculptures to the artistic scene in Europe, USA and also in Czechoslovakia.
