Influence of agitation on separability of the aggregates
Mutl, Silvestr ; Pivokonský, Martin
The aggregation agitation influences the properties of aggregates being formed which, in turn, decisively influence their separation capabilities. It is evident from the experimental results that the conditions of agitation have to be optimised with respect to the raw water quality and the separation method applied. The results show that the mean velocity gradients greater than G = 100 s-1 are more convenient for separation of floc aggreagates.
Development of microbial activity in the Vltava River - a longitudinal profile to Podolí and downstream
Svoboda, J. ; Vrba, Jaroslav ; Simanov, L. ; Fuksa, J. K.
Extracellular ß-glucosidase activity, bacterial number (direct counts and MPA colony forming units), chlorophyll .i.a./i. concentration, BOD.sub.5./sub., and COD were measured along the Vltava River and its reservoir cascade in 2000 (April-September;n = 5-8). The study demonstrated an important role of reservoirs in water quality management and, in particular, the dominant role of the microbes in matter transfers, decomposition, and nutrient dynamics in the transient zones of reservoirs.
