The aim of this bachelor thesis is to introduce the personality and works of Karel Ladislav Kukla, an author who was sidelined, in today's literary context. The thesis presents Kukla primarily as a Prague author at the turn of the 20th century, who dealt with the fate of people affected by social poverty, in his own words called "the Prague mud", against a background of significant socio-cultural changes.
