The research is concentrated on manuscripts that were written before the end of the 15th century, together with handwritten parts bound together with old prints and fragments removed from manuscripts. The research of these libraries is based mainly on preserved manuscripts. Their affiliation to the libraries can be identified with certainty thanks to ownership remarks, in some cases also by typical shelf marks or notes about the content of manuscripts, possibly by other circumstances connected with the history of the books. In addition, there are contemporary sources of the history of some libraries (library catalogues, inventories, records of gifts and testaments, notes about payments for manuscripts, records of the purchase of the books, or reports of the sale of manuscripts in exile). The contribution of Václav Hanka to the Czech bibliography
Panenková, Josefina ; Vlachová, Jana (advisor) ; Marek, Jindřich (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is a critical analysis of the Czech incunabula bibliography compiled by the Czech bibliographer Václav Hanka, its evaluation as a relevant bibliographical tool and drawing a comparison between Hanka's work and the findings of the current Czech bibliography. As for the extent and content of all bibliographical records, it is clear that Hanka's listing is inconsistent. The length of the records ranges from one line to several pages, the content varies from a short entry and a very detailed information. On closer inspection, several problems were found that diminish its value as a reliable bibliographical source: incomplete details pertaining to existing copies of incunabula and insufficient information about secondary sources. Whoever uses the bibliography thus also has to search for information in other sources. Comparison with other bibliographies reveals several missing items in Hanka's bibliography.
