History of chaplaincy in the Czech Republic and the professional position of a hospital chaplain in the present

This diploma thesis attempts to provide an insight into the ministry of the hospital chaplain in the Czech Republic. It introduces us to the origins of its source in the Bible and its history in Europe when the care of the sick was the responsibility of the church until it became a duty of the state as well. Due to the emergence of the welfare system, it was necessary to establish functional laws and government regulations, which I try to briefly describe in the context of the operation of the church and the state. By being written at the Hussite Faculty of Theology, this thesis is supplemented by a history of social and charitable work within the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. The entire thesis is complemented in its second part by qualitative research focusing on the barriers and the perspectives of hospital chaplains and CCS(H) ministers working in the hospital environment.

The History of Salvation by Gregory of Tours and Eusebius of Caesarea

This thesis deals with the comparison of theological approaches of classics, such as Eusebius of Caesarea and Gregory of Tours. The aim was to compare their conception of salvation in a given historical period and to find out whether there is any relationship between them. The result was an action based on a thorough examination of both works. The result itself is: Both authors have an identical view of who is the saving force in their time period. However, Gregory came to this end on the basis that Eusebius' empire, in his time, was already extinct and was only a shadow of its former glory.

The history of the religious community the CHC in 1925 - 1990

The thesis wants to present a briefly documented history of the religious community CHC in Vodňany from 1925 until 1990. Evidence of the origin and existence of a religious community is given by the general history of the Vodňany town. The following part is a prerequisite for establishment of a religious community CHC. After WW I, the town of Vodňany was characterized by a great inclination to reform the Catholic Church. The spirit of great joy from new beginning was obvious from the founding of the religious community of the new CHC church. Those joyful emotions were immediately replaced by the responsibilities during construction of the church building and subsequent complications with the repayment of construction costs. The study also deals with the architecture of the church building. Members of the religious community were active. They focused not only on the running of the community, but developed cultural (Theater) and sports activities as well. The testimony to these activities was testified by the Youth Union of CHC and the Zeyer - Theater Association. Agnes of Bohemia - Life and Work

Diploma thesis "Agnes of Bohemia - Life and Work" deals with the life and work of St. Agnes of Bohemia. She is one of the most important Czech saints. Although she came from a royal family, she did not hesitate to give up all her wealth and enter a monastery where she lived in poverty according to strict rules. She loved her fellowman deeply and she cared for the needy. The first chapter describes the time in which Agnes was born, in which she lived and in which she died. It is the government of the last Přemyslid dynasty on the Czech trone, namely the reign of Ottokar I., Wenceslaus I., Ottokar II. and the beginnings of the reign of Wenceslaus II. The second chapter is already devoted to Agnes herself. Agnes did not stay much at home as a child, she was spending most of her time in monasteries and in the Austrian court, where she was sent for a planned marriage. She was engaged several times for political reasons, but no marriage ever happened. The chapter continus with Agnes' relationship with Franciscanism, her effort to reform holy orders and a brief description of the privilege of poverty. The third chapter is the most extensive. Zdislava of Lemberk - Life and Work

Diploma thesis "Zdislava of Lemberk - Life and Work" delas with whole life and work of St. Zdislava of Lemberk based on the available information provided by the existing literature. It also tries to create a comprehensive overview of her multifaceted life, activites and service for the Czech nation based on the information about her family, especially her mother Sibyla of Křižanov and her husband Havel of Lemberk. It tries to confirm the thesis that although there is not much direct information about Zdislava of Lemberk, she certainly represented an expectional personality with unique characteristics for her time. The first chapter of this work describes the time of medieval Bohemia, in which Zdislava of Lemberk lived and represented herself to the Czech people at that time. The second chapter delas with Church orders, especially the Dominican order with which Zdislava of Lemberk is still associated today. The third chapter deals with the life of Zdislava's parents and husband and their activites in the Czech surroundings, which it also associates with the personality of Zdislava. Town of Tabor 1420 - 1453

The aim of my diploma thesis was to introduce Tábor as a town that was naturally the centre of the same name coalition connected to the Hussite movement since its foundation. Next, I wanted to compare the periods of Tábor's political, military, and spiritual development, since Tábor was during 1420 - 1453 religiously the most radical movement within Hussite confession, what was caused because of the influence of Picard sects within the movement. Establishing its own church organization proved that Tabor was extraordinary, although they were not able to push its catechism throughout the whole movement, which did not intend to break up connection with the Catholic church. Tábor military power was linked to the names of two excellent commanders, Jan Žižka and Prokop Holý, even at present this is the symbol of the greatness of Hussite era, since this movement was able to physically held against five crusades called for by catholic Europe. Political legacy of Tábor started with the diplomatic successes achieved in Cheb and finished with the acceptance of the Compacts of Basel, which confirmed the religious confession freedom. Utraquism and Orthodoxy

In our dissertation we will examine the relationships between the Czech Hussites and Utraquists on the one hand and the Orthodox Church on the other. First we will present a representative survey of opinions, according to which Hus and the Hussites continued the tradition of Orthodoxy established in our land by Cyril and Methodius. We will see whether this theory can be justified. We will further ascertain whether Jan Hus and Jerome of Prague can be considered as Orthodox. At the same time we will try to answer the question of whether it is possible to consider these two "martyrs of Constance" as Orthodox saints. We will also ascertain to what extent the Orthodox practice of administering the Eucharist under both kinds played a role in the introduction of the chalice for the laity by Jakoubek of Stříbro. Similarly, we will consider the same issue in relation to administering the Eucharist to children. We will also devote attention to the veneration of SS. Cyril and Methodius by the Hussites. We will analyse Hussite ecclesiology, especially those parts of it which might throw light on the relationship of the Hussites to the Orthodox Church. And we will look at how this relationship manifested itself in practice - for example in an interest in the Eastern Church or the ordination of priests by Orthodox...

Adversus nationes by Arnobius of Sicca and Octavius by Minucius Felix

African teacher of rhetoric Arnobius of Sicca, who lived at the turn of the 3rd and 4th century, is one of the less known Christian authors. He is the author of Christian apology written in Latin called Adversus nationes. His statement attracted particular interest of philologists and historians of antiquity, because it contains large amounts of mythological material. The aim of this work is to introduce Arnobius not only as a crucial source of pagan theology, but also as an important Christian witness of the complicated religious - political situation of Christianity in the time before the Milan Edict, particularly at the time of Diocletian's persecution of Christians. Given the need to work with original texts includes this thesis also the first Czech translation of Arnobiusʼ apology.
