Basic terms in musicology - an example for problematics of lexical minimum

The subject matter of the submitted graduation thesis was Basic Terms in Musicology - an Example for Problematics of Lexical Minimum. Processed section of musical terminology supposed to be a basis for recently scheduled German-Czech Academic Dictionary (GDTAW). Theoretic section of the Thesis is considered as explanation of basic terms of terminology concerning problematic of specialized language. Briefly is described evolution of german and czech musical terminology. Thesis concern regarding genesis process of new vocabulary with specific parts and bilingual vocabulary structure. Criterias for lexical units selection are described in capture "problematic of lexical minimum". Sorts of macrostructur and microstuctur of dictionaries are described as well. There is commented processing case of selected musical terms in detail in analytic part. As conclusion of the Thesis are selected examples of processed musical terms.

Creativity and Creative Industries: Redefinition of Economy and Culture

A dissertation entitled Creativity and Creative industries: Redefinition of Culture and Creativity presents a current paradigmatic shift, deep-rooted in 80th . The study is divided into three main parts. First one analyses a change of paradigm using a cultural, economic and psychological approach. The second part employing a cultural statistics method describes the changes in a cultural consumption and participation. The final part proposes two possible scenarios of a future position of a mainstream cultural production. In the introductory part an author delineates four main reasons of the ongoing paradigmatic shift: the radical change of a geopolitical situation in the break of 80th and 90th causing the democracy a liberalism expansion; an intellectual migration in 90th provoking an increasing concurrence among the educational institutions; a digital revolution redefining the communication principles and their space-time dimension, being at the same time a part of an economic revolution consisting in an enhancing trade of intangible goods; a growing interest in cultural and creative goods becoming a nourishment of current paradigmatic shift. F.Dürrenmatt: Play Strindberg. Czech Reception

The topic of this thesis is Play Strindberg (1969), a play by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, which is an adaptation of Strindberg's drama The Dance of Death (1901). The thesis first discusses the context of the play's origin and the reactions to its first showing. It then goes on to analyze nine Czech theatrical productions of Play Strindberg and also one made by the Czech television. The main part of the thesis presents a detailed criticism of two of the drama's translations (1969 and 1989) based on Katharina Reiß' translation analysis model. Both translations meet the requirements for a functional translation. Curriculum vitas of translators Bohumil Černík (*1924) and Jiří Stach (*1930) are also enclosed.

Some problems in translating modal verbs structures from German to Czech

The subject matter of this diploma thesis is linguistic modality in German with focus on certain problems in translating modal verbs structures from German to Czech. In the theoretical part, the concept of modality as well as the differentiation of modal field is elucidated. Besides the usually used classification of subjective and objective modality, a more precise structure is applied, which is that of epistemic and non-epistemic modality. In addition, in the field of non-epistemic modality, two other sub-types are distinguished according to whether a speaker s evaluation is present or not. The practical part methodologically relies on concrete data such as modal verbs used with perfect infinitive or modal verbs in past perfect tense (Plusquamperfekt) and their translations from German to Czech. Based on selected examples, the aim of this thesis is to emphasize the main differences between Czech and German modality and to underline their essential significance to the translation accuracy.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to create a German-Czech translation and to complete it with a commentary. The translated text consists of selected chapters from the website www.daenemark-reiseguide.de, where tourist information about Denmark can be found. The first part of the commentary includes a translation analysis of the original text. Based on the analysis is deduced the translation method, which affects further translation process and the way of solving specific translation problems. Large part of the commentary describes lexicological problems, especially problems with translation of the geographical names and of the Danish life and institutions. The commentary is concluded by a chapter about thematic shifts.

Selma Brandl: Die Moderne Reitschule, Der richtige Weg zur Harmonie im Sattel (chap. Dressur) - commented translation

The object of my bachelor thesis - which is a translation of a text about horse riding and its commentary - is to make a translation that could be published without many improvements in the magazine Jezdectví or on the website Equichannel. While translating, I followed the translation process of Jirí Levý which he describes in his book Umení prekladu. First, I analysed the original text according to Christiane Nord, then I looked for text parts difficult to translate. I analysed them in their broader context and I chose suitable Czech equivalents for them. During terminology translation, I followed the rules of Czech Equestrian Federation and other literature. Because there is not enough Czech written or into Czech translated literature about horse riding - especially about dressage - I would like to extend the literary basis of this sport. Dressage and horse riding in general are not as popular as e.g. in Germany that is why I try to address the recipient more strongly to get him interested in the text. The first part of my work is dedicated to the translation, in which I do not leave out translation of the picture legend; the second part deals with the analysis of the original text and in the last part I discuss translation problems that I had to solve and I confront the original text with the translation...

Commented translation: Media and communication in the early modern period

This bachelor thesis includes an annotated translation from the German language. The text was chosen from an internet server www.historicum.net. The text consists of some articles from the part Media and communication in the early modern period. Chapters Letter, Book market, Monument, Fashion and Newspapers are translated. The commentary contains four parts. The opening part consists of an analysis of the original text. The analysis contains two parts. The first part is an analysis of extratextual and the second part is an analysis of intratextual factors and describes the specific qualities of the source text. Another part is a typology of translation problems, describing linguistic and cultural non-equivalence and defending the translator's solutions. The third part is a typology of shifts occuring in the translation. The commentary is concluded by the description of the translation method.

Bertolt Brecht's Dreigroschenroman in Czech translations

My thesis is a comparison and translation analysis of two translations of the Dreigroschenroman, a novel by the renowned German author Bertolt Brecht. The first translation, by Jaroslav Zaorálek, was published in 1935 with the poems translated by Břetislav Mencák. The second translation, by Rudolf Vápeník, was published in 1973 with the poems translated by Ludvík Kundera. As of now, no other translation of the novel into Czech has been made. The empirical part of my thesis, in which the translations are analysed, is preceded by the theoretical part. In the theoretical part I present some basic facts about Bertolt Bercht's person, the Dreigroschenroman, the reception of Brecht's work in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic as well as abroad, and the Czech translators of the novel. I have attempted to place the author and his work into a proper literary, social and historical context. The theoretical part is divided into several chapters. Chapter One is an introduction to the topic and the structure and aim of my thesis. Chapter Two is a summary of the current state of research. Jaromír Povejšil as a translator

This master's thesis is dedicated to the personality and work of the Czech linguist and translator Jaromir Povejsil, with an emphasis on his translation career. The thesis has a theoretical-empirical character. It contributes to the history of translation and translation criticism. The thesis contains a biography of Jaromir Povejsil, a chronological overview of his original works in the area of linguistics and a complete list of his translations from German language as well as translations from Czech to German. Jaromir Povejsil covered a wide range of topics in his field of study. He concentrated on the development of Prague-German language, contrastive Czech-German grammar, Czech-German bilingualism, the Old Czech language, literary science and literary history. He is the author of more than a hundred papers as well as the author of two monographs Das Prager Deutsch des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts and Mluvnice soucasne nemCiny. He dedicated himself to field of literary translation and the translation of technical books and non-fiction. Altogether, he translated twenty-four books from German to Czech, out of which fourteen were fiction, mainly from authors from the second-half of the twentieth century. Annotated Translation - Vegetarian diet

The aim of this bachelor thesis is the translation of a German original text into Czech provided with a translation commentary. The translated text is an article published in 2011 in a German scientific journal Spiegel der Forschung n.28 (issue 1). The article deals with vegetarianism around the whole world and in Germany and tries to explain this diet to a wider audience. The translation commentary consists of a translation analysis of the original text, which contains a description of intertextual and extratextual factors based on Christiane Nord's theory. The thesis deals with translation methods, problems that occur during translation and their possible solutions based on the translation analysis.
