Future Teachers Knowledge of the Issues of Specific Language Impairment

This diploma thesis is dedicated to developmental language disorder (DLD) and particularly to studying how well future teachers are informed about DLD. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical, both consisting of three chapters. The first chapter of the theoretical part defines developmental language disorder, and examines and presents the basic terminology. Further, the chapter describes the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical symptoms (both verbal and non-verbal) and classification of DLD. The second chapter examines the individual components related to diagnosing DLD. The third chapter describes the therapy, prognosis and prevention of DLD, as well as the specifics related to educating persons with DLD. The applied part of the thesis presents the results of a research survey conducted as a part of the thesis. The main objective of the survey was to determine how well the (under-)graduate students majoring in teaching in kindergartens and primary schools are informed about DLD in the course of their studies. Development of children's communication skills as a part of school maturity and readiness during COVID-19 pandemic

This thesis addresses preschool education in the COVID-19 pandemic from a speech therapy perspective. The aim was to determine whether the pandemic affects the development of communication skills in children's school maturity and readiness. For the research, a quantitative method was used. A sample of 50 respondents from kindergartens in the Vysočina region completed a self-administered questionnaire to provide data for this work. The research sample was teachers of children with compulsory school attendance. The research found that the number of deferrals of compulsory school attendance is higher in the school year 2020/2021 than in previous years. The root causes cited by the respondents were psychological immaturity, including impaired communication skills. It was also found that for more than half of the respondents, children in the classroom have the same difficulties in communication skills as in previous years, yet 92% of teachers admitted that the educational objectives in the field of communication, according to the Framework Education Programme for Preschool Education, were not met in the 2020/2021 school year. Communication between persons with aphasia and healthcare professionals

Diploma thesis deals with communication between persons with aphasia and healthcare professionals. The thesis consists of four chapters, three of which are theoretical. Research is included in the fourth chapter. Aphasia is defined and classified in the first theoretical chapter. The second chapter deals with a multidisciplinary team involving in the rehabilitation of persons with aphasia and with the individual role of healthcare professionals from the team. It also deals with diagnostics and the therapy of aphasia in acute, subacute and chronic stadium. Communication with persons with aphasia and its specifics are described in the third chapter. The main objective of diploma thesis was to find out how communication between persons with aphasia and healthcare professionals in healthcare facilities takes place according to experience of persons with aphasia and healthcare professionals as well. Possibilities of acquiring of reading with comprehension in children with specific language impairment

The topic of the thesis is the development of the reading comprehension in children with specific language impairment and its possibilities. For the purposes of this thesis, worksheets were created through which the development of the area could be implemented. The diploma thesis is divided into four chapters. Three chapters represent the theoretical part, the fourth chapter is empirical. In the first theoretical chapter, knowledge about specific language impairment (causes, symptomatology, diagnosis and therapy) is written. Similarly, specific learning disabilities are described in the second chapter. The third theoretical chapter approaches the issue of reading comprehension development. It is focused on the development of pre-reading literacy, the possibility of teaching initial reading and writing, and the development of functional literacy. The fourth empirical part of the thesis presents a qualitative research investigation, which was carried out using case studies and semi-structured interviews with teachers. At the end of the practical part, the results of the research investigation are summarized and recommendations for working with the created worksheets are presented.
Effective speech therapy counseling in the treatment of developmental dysphasia and its use across disciplines

The master thesis deals with alternative and augmentative communication for adults with combined disabilities. It defines the theoretical foundations of disability, more specifically combined disability. It also describes the communication of people with combined disabilities and explains concepts such as communication, impaired communication skills or speech therapy intervention for people with combined disabilities. Its disadvantages relate more to alternative and augmentative communication, in which it describes in more detail the methods and systems, diagnostic aspects, training of use or its advantages and benefits. The main purpose of this work is to describe the use of alternative and augmentative communication in the everyday life of adults with combined disabilities, especially in everyday activities and also in the possibility of expressing their needs and feelings. The research survey took place in two phases, in the first phase case studies of adults with combined disabilities were prepared and in the second phase participatory observation and direct work with individual persons was carried out. At the end of the work, the benefits of alternative and augmentative communication in adults with combined disabilities are characterized.
The Specifics of Speech Development in Premature Infants

The diploma thesis deals with the problems in clinical speech therapy and is entitled Specifics in the speech development of premature infants. The theoretical and practical findings are included in the thesis. The theoretical part is devoted to premature birth, risks associated with premature birth and care of premature individuals. It also describes multiple pregnancy, twin pregnancy and twins in terms of their development, education and specific forms of communication. The last chapter of the theoretical part deals with child development, speech development and communication disorders. In the practical part, the empirical part, the research methods of the qualitative investigation and its focus are described in detail. The main aim of the thesis and sub-objectives are given. Development of children's communication skills with different Mother Tongues in pre-school education

This bachelor thesis focuses on analyzing methods of speech development skills of kids with different mother languages in preschool education. Main goal of this thesis is to get knowledge applicable in work with kids with different mother language and in developing their communication skills. Theoretical part is based on information from proffesional literature, current legislation and electronic information sources which desrcibe definitions of terms communication, speech and language, ontogenesis of child's speech till preschool age and specifics of bilingual child's speech development. In this thesis is also a describtion of Czech preschool education system and it is focused on a group of kids with different mother languages. The empiric part is processed in the form of qualitative research. The case study desrcibes development of communication skills of three kids with different mother language and the methods that are used.
Speech therapy and intervention of adults with cerebral palsy

This Bachelor thesis is focused on the speech therapy among individuals with cerebral palsy and the social aspects of communicative disorders within this group of people. The thesis consists of a theoretical part, divided into two chapters and an empirical part. The first chapter focuses on the diagnosis of cerebral palsy, including its causes, classification and the most common associated disorders. The second chapter focuses on the communicative disability as one of a frequently associated disorders with cerebral palsy. The empirical part of this thesis, which is the focus of the third chapter, consists of the case studies of four respondents with cerebral palsy. Each of these respondents live an independent adult life and in the past they participated in the speech therapy because of their communicative disability. The research had a qualitative character, specifically, methods of observation, structured interview and case studies were used. The main goal of this thesis was an analysis of the way speech therapy is executed among people with cerebral palsy. Partial goals of the thesis were focused on the analysis of social aspects of the communicative disability.
