Kauppinenová, Laura ; Dlask, Jan (advisor) ; Kovář, Michal (referee)
This master thesis deals with the analysis of three selected works about the Moomintrolls by the Finland-Swedish author Tove Jansson. The analysis is done from the perspective of the existentialist philosophy of the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre. The main emphasis of the analysis lies on researching Sartre's phenomena of the so-called social roles in the Moomin books; the thesis deals with this phenomena and theoretical apparatus related to it - the term of mauvaise foi (bad faith), among others - in it's first part. The following chapters consist of literary analysis, which is conducted from the perspective of the individual characters. The main goal of the thesis is to show how the characters reflect their being, whether they realize their freedom and whether their acts are authentic or done with bad faith. In addition, the analysis deals also with the topic of existential anxiety. Keywords Tove Jansson, Moomins, Finland-Swedish literature, existentialism, Jean-Paul Sartre, social roles, authenticity, bad faith

Semantic preference and prosody of intensification expressions in Finnish
Vorlíková, Zuzana ; Fárová, Lenka (advisor) ; Kovář, Michal (referee)
ABCTRACT This master's thesis is focused on Finnish intensification expressions in the form of the genitive case of adjectives and on adjectives intensified by them. Research is carried out in the form of corpus-based analysis for the purpose of seeing if semantics of intensification expressions affect the possibility of their combination with intensified adjectives. The first chapters of the thesis are dedicated to the theoretical study of semantic relationships and intensification. First of all, the corpus analysis attention focuses on what semantic features intensification expressions themselves have. Intensification expressions are categorized into groups on the basis of these features. Three of the groups are a subject of a more detailed analysis. Each group is represented by three intensification enpressions whose adjective collocations and wider context are examined. The purpose of this part of the analysis is to find out if different groups of intensification expressions appear in different contexts and if expressions belonging to the same group prefer a combination with the same adjectives. Key words: Finnish, intensification expressions, semantic preference and prosody, adjectives, corpus-based analysis

Hořínová, Markéta ; Dlask, Jan (advisor) ; Kovář, Michal (referee)
This master's thesis deals with the topic of Sámi poetry. The main aim of this work was to examine the history and development of lyric poetry written in North Sámi in Finland. Apart from that I also tried to find certain attributes or trends common in Sámi poetry. In this thesis I used the encyclopedic method. In the first part of the thesis I examine the North Sámi yoik from a literary perspective. The influence of the yoik can be seen through the whole history of Sámi poetry. In the next chapters I introduce important poets and their work from the end of the 19th century to present. I focus mainly on authors originating from the Finnish side of Sámiland. In addition to that I present some important historical and social events that had an impact on literature. In the final chapter, I briefly deal with the situation in publishing and translating Sámi poetry. Because my knowledge of North Sámi is very limited, I analyzed all the literary works presented in this thesis with the help of Finnish or English translations. In spite of that I managed to find some common trends in Sámi poetry. Keywords: Finland, Sámi literature, poetry, yoik, Northern...
